Summary: The Transports are evacuating to the Moon Base. Those on the Moon Base try to settle in and figure out their next move. Setting info can be found here.

The Hold is a flurry of activity, grim faced members of the Initiative group directing supplies and people with the subdued air of people facing their own doom, and wondering at how to process the knowledge. None of the Initiative appears unaware of what will happen; their eyes linger on the Transports, expressions pleading, hopeful, doubtful, or immeasurably sad in turn.

Every eight hours, the space ship is sent back up with a load of people and supplies. The pilots are worked until they can't; the AI stolen ages ago by the Initiative greets and corrals people and supplies at both ends, and in the middle step between.

The network continues to broadcast on narrow channels between the Moon Base and Exsilium, up until the time that all connections are lost, with the carrier located en route to Exsilium. The first airship will pass by without dropping anything, but it's too early to celebrate. At a six hour delay from behind, the second airship arrives, and with it, the dark promise of the Black Code's nuclear weaponry.

The six hour window allows for time for those left behind, either by choice or circumstance, to be pulled to the Moon Base with the successful activation of the Transport Pad. New characters will ultimately arrive with the remainder of those not yet on the Moon Base, all in time to witness the explosive contact of the nuclear warhead with the ground of Exsilium live on satellite.

But until then, there's only the hurry, the silence, and the potential for full out rioting should the Transports spread word to the Exiles inevitably left behind to face this fate.

[He closes his eyes for a few moments, trying to clear out his head and calm down. Blaine is helping with that. Eventually he turns to look at him.]

I-- just, forget it. Let's go. There's nothing I can do.

[Blaine is looking at him, searching his face.] This isn't the last time you'll try.

[He took a step back and tried to pull Johnny with him. He said he'd go, so Blaine was about to guide him back to the apartments.]

[Johnny follows along, head hanging.] I.. I need to think of some way to warn them. With evidence. I need to think of something, fast.

[He's holding Johnny's hand as they walk.] What will they do then?

Evacuate to the outlands? That's... that's about the only option.

[strategic_guile]

[He squeezes his hand but doesn't say anything. He'll let Johnny work it out himself, because there was no hiding from a nuclear explosion. They needed to move more than a few miles out of the city. They needed to get off the damn island or move to the opposite side of it.]

[He gives Blaine a look that shows that he's desperately trying to think of something, but is running out of viable options. He was never the ideas guy.] They have to do something if the Initiative isn't gonna.

The only thing they can do is run, and they can't run far enough away to survive the blast or the radiation. If they do, then they'll starve.

[Sorry Johnny. Blaine is putting this as simply as he can hoping the shock of hopelessness doesn't totally depressed the half-incubus. He's sure it will though.]

[Johnny makes a frustrated noise, squeezing Blaine's hand tightly (but not too tightly). It's clear he's trying very hard to not lose his temper again.]

This is the fuckin' worst.

[Yeah, he's monitoring the bone crushing strength. He needs that hand Johnny D'Amico. His thumb is rubbing the back of said hand though, a vague soothing motion. His voice is matter-of-fact and determined.]

It's not permanent.

Can we be sure 'a that? Do you trust the Initiative to get this shit right? I don't. Besides, it's just-- it's just fucked up lettin' 'em die just cuz we think we can fix it later.

[Yet again Blaine didn't say anything. Logically he knew it was their only option, but it was bullshit. He squeezed Johnny's hand and looked forward, just kept walking, and didn't voice his thoughts about it at all.]

Don't you got anythin' to say about this? Or are ya just gonna go along with it?

[He's quiet for a while longer before he speaks.]

There is no other option. We can't go back in time to prevent it from happening right now. There's nowhere for the exiles to go. The Initiative only has this option because they never plan for the present. I can't do anything about that, and I'm not going to run around pretending like saving a few people is going to make it alright. I will still feel like shit. I will still feel useless and those few people saved get to see every person they love die. It's fucking cruel.

[He's quiet for a moment too. He knows Blaine's right, and he feels the same way. He just doesn't want to give into it.]

Damnit... Fuck the Initiative for putting us into this. Fuck them for throwing us into these people's lives and then not letting us help them when things go the worst.

We can't help.

[Bluntly.]

Or we'll all die and it'll be permanent. Blame them for not properly planning and having nothing better than this.
