[For those sitting at the long table in the back, your lunch space is likely disturbed by a nun spreading out multiple schematics and documents. While most of the conversation with her tiny, almost ever present companion is muted, her voices raises with exasperation.]

I like the first one best... but you're right, it's not a two man job.

[ He delicately retrieves the candy with his teeth, from Kevin's fingers, and swallows it in one gulp. ]

I think you're telling a story about being impossibly old. Cos I'm quite certain...

[ Emily chimes in: ]

[Kevin utters the most innocent squeak.]

Mister Break, stop playing tricks on me!

[The flailing is definitively back.]

[ Dismissive hand wave. His attention has already moved on. ]

Your little friend seems to be plotting something. D'you know what it is?

[His face falls dramatically.]

...The cafeteria is becoming rather crowded, isn't it?

[maddeninghatter]

[ ... ]

That's a "yes," isn't it?

[Ugh. He presses his lips together and looks down at his shoes.]

[ He reaches gently for Kevin, as if to cup the side of his cheek and speak seriously to him... ]

[ ...and flicks his forehead. ]

[D-did he just get his forehead flicked?]

It is just like the rescue mission, but this time with er... tampering with time.

...You are going too, aren't you?

[maddeninghatter]

[ Tampering with time...

It's the only weapon the Initiative, and by extension, the Transports have. He has seen how well they fared in a pitched battle against the United Earth, on Elmer's world, which is to say, a complete rout and slaughter.

Yet the idea of trying to change the past to avert disaster still hurts his soul. ]

Are you?

[Kevin disapproves. Thoroughly. Time should not be tampered with by humans.]

It is one of those...unavoidable chain reactions.

[Someone has to drag people out when things get too stupid.]

[maddeninghatter]

Haven't you tried to discourage her?

[ probably FUTILE, he knows, but someone ought to at least try. Someone other than him. Someone actually likable and trustworthy, for instance. ]

I h-have tried to discourage Sister Rosette a few times. She will not listen. If anything, she will become even more determined to do what she believes is right.

[He has a vast experience with the type.]

[maddeninghatter]

So you're resolved to follow her, spy on her, and quietly step in when things inevitably start getting tricky?

[ Break knows this type, too. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, etc. ]

[ Well, it seems it is right time to say nothing and become obsessively interested in his own shoes.

He doesn't like the way this conversation is heading. Not at all. In fact, this is the opposite of what he wants.]

[maddeninghatter]

[ ... ]

Mister Cecil, are you there?

[ Snapping his fingers under Kevin's nose. ]

[But what if I don't want to.]

I attempted to persuade her. [And failed miserably.]

Please, don't go.

[maddeninghatter]

And let you go and have all the fun~?

[ He tucks his hands behind his back and bumps shoulders with Kevin, speaking conspiratorially. ]

It's a bad idea and it will all lead to tears and will probably make everything worse somehow. How could I possibly turn it down?

[senseandcecilbility]

[The angel heaves a deep and despondent sigh. Why is everyone stupid? Why does he have to be stupid too?]

See, this is precisely the sort of situation I was attempting to avoid.

[He does not wish any of them to get hurt.]

[maddeninghatter]

[ A hollow laugh. ]

Funny, the way that happens. How fate leads one back inexorably...

[ Changing the past through time travel isn't something he is at all enthusiastic about, either, to put it mildly. But the alternative keeps eluding him.

The only saving grace in all this is that he won't use other people as an excuse for what he's doing. Everything he does will be for his own purposes. ]

[Kevin cannot help but lay a comforting hand on Break's shoulder.]

Mister Break, you would be surprised at how little the universe is bent on punishing any of us for our past mistakes. Even if we have been through something similar before...there are always better choices to be made.

[Because in spite of everything, Kevin still believes in God's kindness.]

[senseandcecilbility]

My young master...he would have scolded you for blaming this on fate.

[maddeninghatter]

[ ... ]

He's right. I shouldn't blame fate.

[ Not when he can more properly blame things on himself. Even so, he finds the angel's touch comforting, despite his own guilty feelings. ]

[senseandcecilbility]

[He pushes Break's bangs back a little, much like he would do to a small boy. He is even careful enough not to reveal the empty eye socket.]

You are thinking about the past again, aren't you? See, that is the problem with the Initiative's plan. The natural step is to create a better future.

[And so he is doing his best not to concentrate too much on what happened to the Exsiles, and try to fix what remains to be fixed. Lingering on that particular pain would destroy him, and those people need an angel here, now.

At least that demon got one thing right.]
