Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings. The zombie plot will not spill over into this area, this area is safe and unaffected! To face zombies, characters must leave the area, and please move to the event log with those threads.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced — although it won't have Network access for another 8 hours. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now; the only lighting comes from dull red emergency lights, but there are… noises. Listen carefully. Over the voices of your fellow Transports, now and then you might catch the sound of a scrape, or a low and muffled cry. It doesn't sound human. Are there animals up here?

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

He keeps pretty busy, so I bet he could tell you what to do.

Yeah. I'm not surprised -- leave it to a lawyer to smell the blood of opportunity. Or whatever you'd call it up here.

[He laughs again, nodding.]

Jesse. Nice to meet you.

[ He smiles slightly, less restrained than before. ]

Yeah -- you too. Guess you've... uh, been here a while?

Over a year, yeah. A while.

[mallarkey]

Really? What the hell, that can happen?

Not to most people. Hell, you might go back before the month's over. Don't worry too much about it.

[mallarkey]

You're just lucky, huh?

[ He frowns slightly, exhaling heavily. ]

I'm not worried. Not sure there's anything I need to rush back for anyway.

[hostage]

Trouble at home?

[Not nosy, just honest-to-god concerned.]

[mallarkey]

Yeah. Work, too. It's-- [ Hm. ] Y'know when one problem keeps making the other worse.

[hostage]

Yeah, I know how that is.

[All too well.]

Dunno how bad your situation is, but me personally, I like it here. If it's a choice between here and back home, I'd pick here any day. So... I mean, it's pretty nice.

[mallarkey]

Oh... sure, who could blame you? It's like paradise.

[ Maybe just a little sarcastic. ]

You have a lot of friends up here?

[Friends might be a bit strong. He shrugs.]

Most people know me. I'm the first person a lotta them meet.

[ He thinks about that; oddly he can understand, maybe, though in a different sort of way. Carefully: ]

Just needed to be someplace else? Yeah. [ Pausing. ] You're pretty lucky, then.

Hey, anywhere can grow on you with the right kind of company. A lot of people aren't meant to stick around in just one place. Maybe even kind of unnatural.

Kinda one nice thing about being here is we move around a lot. Missions and stuff. I seen way more around the world than I ever did before - and I mean that like before we ended up on the freakin' moon.

[mallarkey]

That's the best news I've heard all day. [ Or in the last hour, however much time has passed. ] Always preferred traveling to staying still. You ever go anywhere interesting?

[hostage]

Uruguay, Russia, France... Nazi Germany, once. And once we all went to this beach way back in dinosaur times, like all Jurassic Park.

[mallarkey]

Wow. Non-stop fun and relaxation then, it sounds like. Here I was just picturing... Mexico.

[hostage]

[No, Mexico is not fun.]

The beach thing was actually real relaxing. The dinosaurs were mostly outside where we were. The rest of it... Well, at least it ain't boring, right?

[mallarkey]

[ If he only knew. ]

Yeah. It is a little reassuring. At least you can get away, even if it's just-- just you. [ He pauses, glancing downward briefly. ] Um... anyway, sorry. Probably should leave you to your cookies, didn't mean to get up in shooting the shit.

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm mostly here for the talking part. It's my job or whatever.

If you say so. I tend to talk a lot when I'm nervous. Bad habit of mine, so I won't be offended if I should be shutting up about now.
