It was strange when she woke up and Natsu wasn't there. She almost expected him to always be there, or at the very least, nearby. She promised him only a few days before that she would stay close to him. She trusted him to keep her safe, and she was happiest at his side. He was her very most important and dearest friend.

He wasn't always in her room, though of late she woke up and found him in her bed more frequently. She'd gotten use to the warmth he gave off - but when she woke up that day her bed was emptier, cooler. He wasn't anywhere in the shared apartments they had, but she didn't really get worried until an hour passed with no sign of him.

So she went looking for him. Despite what was going on with the mutiny, and being unable to use the network, it was the only option she had. Erza had suggested they all split up to look for him - maybe one of them could find him in a place Lucy hadn't checked, or maybe she just missed him. If nothing else, more people searching should find him more quickly.

As for Lucy, she checked the clinic frequently, praying she wouldn't find him there, and more relieved when she didn't. Then weary, then frantic. She would be unhappy if she lost Juvia, or Erza again but Natsu... for him not to be here, she'd be... heartbroken. He couldn't be gone. He promised. And she knew going back home wasn't something they could control but ...

By afternoon her heart was heavy, calling out her friend's name until her voice was raw, part of her knowing she wouldn't find him, but still hoping she would. She wanted to cry. Wanted to, but wouldn't - not until she returned to her room and could cry in private. Instead she was knocking on every door she came to in search of the salmon haired Dragon Slayer to come up empty, and each time her heart breaking a little more. "Natsu~!"

No, no she wasn't all right. She tried to muster a smile, though it was rather subpar compared to her usual ones. "...Emil... I'm fine," surprisingly, with this stupid mutiny going on, "I'm looking for Natsu -- have you seen him? He's a little taller than me, salmon hair, green eyes..? He's the one I was telling you about." Erza would be proud of her for being so collected. When she felt anything but.

"Natsu..." Emil ran through the last couple days in his mind, trying to remember if he'd heard that name or seen anyone close to that description. In times like these he knew that if nobody had seen him lately that was a bad sign one way or another so he really wanted to say he recalled something, but...nothing. After one last run through the previous day shook his head. "No. I'm sorry."

But seeing a friend like this, he wasn't sure he could just leave it at that. "I could help you look, if that's all right."

The longer Emil was silent, the more disappointed Lucy felt. The more she began to pray she wouldn't have to admit to herself he was gone. She reached up to touch the necklace around her neck, taking a breath. He was always with her, she knew, but she didn't want to settle on memories and she didn't want to settle on the tokens he gave her. She wanted her best friend back.

"I... yeah, I'd like that. It's.. not interrupting you from anything is it...?

"No, of course not!" With everything going on Emil was at a slight loss for what to do, but even if he hadn't been friends always took priority. And although he didn't really know Natsu Emil hoped he was all right - in some way or another.

He nodded firmly, trying to be supportive for Lucy's sake. "I'd be glad to help look for your friend."

Lucy smiled appreciatively, "I ...I don't know if we'll find him. He might have..." Well. "But I appreciate the help, Emil. IF nothing else, it'll be easy to spot him." He was rarely subtle, and he'd probably pick them out before Lucy and Emil spotted him anyway. If he was still here.

"How have you been handling...things?"

"Me? I've been all right, I guess." Truth be told it reminded Emil a little too much of home, but he knew that wasn't much of a problem compared to a missing friend. It happens all the time here, he knew that, but...that didn't mean it's ever better than before. He hoped that it wasn't the case now. "Come on, let's go. The sooner we get going, the sooner we can find him."

Even though it happens all the time, that definitely didn't make it okay. And if Natsu -had- gone home... she'd just wait until he came back to her. Friends don't abandon each other, after all, right? Although she couldn't help but remember how upset Natsu had been when she was sent back home. He waited for her too, as long as it took for her to come back.

"Right." Lucy smiled weakly, striking off in a random direction, "Let's try this way. Um... if you see something on fire, let me know, okay? That might be him." Such a show of faith. But where there is fire there is usually Natsu!

"Fire?" That didn't put the greatest image of Natsu in Emil's mind (did he spontaneously set things on fire? Did he like making them? Did he just get into a lot of trouble--well, Emil couldn't fault anyone for that one too much) but that was...probably a good hint, if they ever did come across any fires. "Um, right. Coming!"

He followed in the direction Lucy had headed off in, trying to catch up as quickly as he cold. "Is there anything else I should know?"

Lucy laughed, "Well he is a fire mage. It's just that a lot of things... um. Tend to also get put on fire when he's around." Sometimes. Not all the time. But he's a fire mage, so it was something that was going to happen no matter what you did.

"Anything else...? Hn... he doesn't know the meaning of subtlety, so even if something isn't on fire, we'll probably hear him first." Wrecking something. That man is too strong for his own good.

That was promising...probably. "So we follow any trails of fire and yelling we find?" He was half-joking, but it was surprisingly easy to picture. (He hoped that wouldn't happen. Actually, that would be pretty bad for everyone given the ongoing infighting around here.) "I can look for that, no problem."

"Ah... well let's hope that it doesn't come down to fire and yelling," Lucy grinned weakly. If it was like that then Natsu was either in a fight or training. It didn't occur to her to check the tablet - if he was there then surely he'd show up on it. And... she really didn't want to look at the tablet and confirm her worries. "I guess I give him a bad image describing him like that, huh?" Eheh.

"No, I understand." Emil actually didn't quite understand - the only person he knew that sounded anything like that would have been himself at his worst, and even then not quite - but he trusted that any friend of Lucy's couldn't be that bad, even if he sounded a little strange. "Let's keep going. If he's here, he's probably not waiting for us to find him."
