It seemed like a good idea at the time...
Date & Time: 2698, fin-de-millenium, just prior to the formation of the United Earth
Location: Las Vegas
Characters: Break, Kevin, Gilbert, Oz, Elliot, Alice, Allen, Lenalee, Rosette, Chrono, Chrysos
Summary: Fear and loathing
Warnings: Showgirls and Gilbert weeping.
The statement “Let’s go to Vegas” exists as the multiverse’s quintessential definition of, “well it seemed like a good idea at the time.” Even in this case, it really had, between zombies, insurrection, and the day to day tedium of life on the moon. Besides which, Xerxes Break has a new sentient (sentient-er) weapon, which in a stunning show of good judgement is too dangerous to test on the moonbase, nor in any concentration of people. Las Vegas, set against the backdrop of the vast, desolate Mojave desert, seemed to be a perfect choice.
When our heroes wink into existence, squinting against the early-morning desert sunshine, they’ll find themselves duly welcomed. Come play in the casino. When you feel a bit peckish, indulge in all you can eat. Take your winnings and go shopping; at night, take in a show. And if you’ve done really well gambling, unwind in a ridiculously luxurious suite.
…or is this how you’re spending the night?
Thirty-six hours in Vegas, what could possibly go wrong?
(ooc: feel free to start threads willy-nilly, name your time and place, threadjack and mingle)

A C OF REGRETS
Ah, the ice cube of ominous hunches sliding down the back of one's neck. ]
No.
[ he's just a bystander he's not even involved in this ]

She wrenches the door open and with the unstoppable force of one of the Core's great mechanical arms, shoves him into the passenger side.
The door closes behind him like a death knell.
Outside the shouting of officers, perhaps, sounds a bit like distant salvation.
She gets in on the other side.]
JEEZ! They don't listen to reason!

It's the moment of hesitation (knuckles white, a death-grip on tacky plastic) over the question of how that would go down in the book of Reasonably Polite Conduct that proves to be the fatal error. ]

The tires squeal and the car almost leaps forward, grazing the parked vehicle just in front of them as she veers wildly out into traffic. Sirens rise behind them, with flashing lights, as the sound of a wailing car alarm recedes.
People, buildings and EVEN OTHER CARS, blur by.]
Whoa... this thing goes FAST.

A thought promptly thrown to the backseat as Rosette gleefully proceeds to once again put all laws of motion to the test. With their lives and limbs.
He yanks the seatbelt down and buckles up. ]
What did you do to cause this?!
[ He is not yelping. He is not yelping. He is calmly assessing the situation. ]

I didn't do anything! I had nothing to do with it at all!

Rosette SLAMS on the gas, barely missing a semi truck barreling down through the intersection.]
LEARN TO DRIVE!!

...and so regardless of the onslaught of whiplash he finds himself subjected to, Chrys's senses don't miss a thing.
Including the faint scrape of the truck grazing a taillight.
She's going to kill them. ]
That was a red light!
[ EVEN HE KNOWS WHAT THAT MEANS ]
no subject
Whatever! It's in the past now!
[That turn sure shouldn't have been even POSSIBLE to make at the speeds they were going. In fact, as two wheels lift from the asphalt and drop back down to the ground, it seems physics was suspended in the form of some twisted god laughing at them.
The police car trying to desperately tail them certainly DIDN'T make the turn, spinning off wildly.]
no subject
You can't just dismiss that with that--!
[ He looks back. Regrets it immediately. (Pales at the distant sound of a couple tons of metal crashing into a couple tons of something else.) ]

[She banks hard, a few cardboard boxes going flying as they shoot through an alley and cut across a couple of lanes of traffic to double back.]
I've done this before! If they can't catch us, I don't have to put in a report!
no subject
You're going to get someone killed!
[ Like THEM. ]

She pulls back onto the Strip, driving sedately to Cesars' Palace... There are no signs of sirens or lights as she glides to a perfect, textbook stop in front of the valet area and hands the man the keys to the car, completely intending to abandon it.]
We're here!

In fact, it's doubtful whether the body slumped in the adjacent seat heard her at all, given that it appears to be currently engaged in muttering mysterious secrets to the upholstery above them, face about as white as the walls of the building. ]
