It seemed like a good idea at the time...
Date & Time: 2698, fin-de-millenium, just prior to the formation of the United Earth
Location: Las Vegas
Characters: Break, Kevin, Gilbert, Oz, Elliot, Alice, Allen, Lenalee, Rosette, Chrono, Chrysos
Summary: Fear and loathing
Warnings: Showgirls and Gilbert weeping.
The statement “Let’s go to Vegas” exists as the multiverse’s quintessential definition of, “well it seemed like a good idea at the time.” Even in this case, it really had, between zombies, insurrection, and the day to day tedium of life on the moon. Besides which, Xerxes Break has a new sentient (sentient-er) weapon, which in a stunning show of good judgement is too dangerous to test on the moonbase, nor in any concentration of people. Las Vegas, set against the backdrop of the vast, desolate Mojave desert, seemed to be a perfect choice.
When our heroes wink into existence, squinting against the early-morning desert sunshine, they’ll find themselves duly welcomed. Come play in the casino. When you feel a bit peckish, indulge in all you can eat. Take your winnings and go shopping; at night, take in a show. And if you’ve done really well gambling, unwind in a ridiculously luxurious suite.
…or is this how you’re spending the night?
Thirty-six hours in Vegas, what could possibly go wrong?

[ NO ONE TOUCHES HER MAN-SERVANT! seeing the blade pointed at oz, alice scrambles up and what kevin gets is a FLYING KICK coming in his direction. ]
no subject
[Why is he being kicked on the back of his head? However, as a creature used to stabbing, he plunges his sword in Oz's general direction as he falls sideways, all angelic grace gone.
Boy, he should have stopped at his fifty-seventh Sunrise Tequila. Why did nobody try to stop him?]
no subject
but he does look up at all the shouting and commotion, and that — sure is kevin standing over him with a sword )
Kevin?
( he does make an effort to move but that's not very easy between being CACTUSED and wondering when kevin even learned how to use a sword much less got one and
does indeed get stabbed )
no subject
She doesn't understand at all.]
no subject
…Oz?
[Whatever he stabbed is not quite right. A human body, for sure, but what is wrong with his soul?
A drunken Kevin has only one way to deal with this problem, which is by pushing the sword further into the kid until it is buried to the hilt. Too pity Uriel has never been known for his social skills.]

[Through all of this, Gilbert has stumbled to his feet, spit the last of the sand from his mouth and is running as fast as his feet can manage through the sand, his boots slowing him down. He does in fact notice the lack of blood coming from the edges of the sword where it pierces him. That's the only reason that he doesn't summon Raven and kill Kevin where he stands.]
Kevin - what are you--?! [He attempts to reach out and grab hold of the man's wrists to stop whatever it is that he's doing. One doesn't normally equate stabbing with healing, after all.]

Heavens, it is quite all right. [He yawns drunkenly, letting go of the sword and then flimsily trying to release his hand from Gil's grip.] Would you rather leave the poor child to the cactus?
no subject
Ah...I mean... Please, do not worry. I do that to Mister Break all the time.
no subject
I — it's fine, really! I mean —
[ Oh thanks for that Kevin. ]
I mean, he'll feel good afterwards!
[ That doesn't sound any better, wait! ]
He's a healer, a healer!
no subject
at least, until he becomes aware of the fact that the pain from the cactus needles is receding, then gone, needles falling away harmlessly around him. and the pain from the sword disappears with the weapon itself, leaving him feeling really...surprisingly...good?
really good, in fact.
he'll tune into the rest of the commotion soon enough, but until then this is all a bit distracting. )

The feels good part... okay that was coming up a blank.]
THAT WAS STABBING! How do you mistake that for glowy lights and wings healing!!
no subject
blushing?

Gilbert steps back, still wary and nervous unable to keep his eyes off of the sword piercing through Oz's chest, reminding himself again and again in his head that this is helping, even though it looks...well, terrifying and wrong. But slowly Oz seems to relax, and the serene look on his face is enough to set Gilbert's heart at ease.
He turns towards Kevin, to thank or him apologize or something but - ]

He frowns and then steps over to her side, covering her eyes with both of his hands.]
no subject
Then it clicked: She had been witnessing something improper.]
Just.
Tell me when they're ... done.
1/2
...
[Maybe he is too drunk to understand what is going on.
Maybe he is not drunk enough.]
no subject
...I apologize for the inconvenience. My sentient weapon adapts according to the gravity of the wound.
[He still doesn't know why Oz pings so weird ( a bit like Mad Hatter, but not quite?). At least he doesn't feel demonic, which is always a good start to any long-lasting friendship.]
no subject
in any case, he can't help raising his eyebrows at the explanation — adapting into a sword though, and over cactus spines — but lets kevin pull him to his feet, safely away from the cactus )
So that's what you meant when you said your weapon had to do with healing....
( his literal weapon, apparently )
Well, thank you.
no subject
[ He reaches for Oz and not-so-subtly pulls him away from Kevin. Judging from Rosette's comment, he is highly suspicious that Kevin is doing to Oz what he usually does to Break post-healing, which is to say not respecting personal space to put it mildly. ]
Yes, yes. It's good you've experienced that, in case we need it later.
[ Er, clarifying: ]
The healing, I mean.
[ He's about to tell Oz to go ahead and proceed with That Thing That Is the Whole Reason They're Here and Not Sleeping Off Their Hangovers in a Civilized Fashion, except it's worth asking... ]
Mister Cecil, how soon can you go again?
[ What sort of a refractory period do angels have, this is important. ]
no subject
[He is facing one of those awkward and embarrassing social situations in which he knows he is being stared at and judged, but he cannot quite pinpoint why. The fact that both Rosette and Oz had to rescue him from the blond dude he vaguely remembers really doesn't help.
Instinctively, he moves away from Oz and keeps to Break's other side, where he feels marginally safer from all this socialization in the middle of the desert.]
I can do it immediately. Cactuses are not particularly difficult.
[Gosh, are they going to get seriously hurt again? ]
no subject
I think it's over now...
[Who knows exactly what either of them just saw, but at least Oz isn't being impaled by the cactus any longer. Gilbert drops his hands away and then rushes over to Oz's side, reaches out to grab his shoulders.]
Oz, are you okay?
no subject
I'm fine! That was a little strange, ( SORRY BUT REALLY ) but it seems like Kevin knows what he's doing.
( and so this, he thinks, is the healing break'd had in mind, organizing this whole business. well, if it's capable of this much without any problem...
much as some FOREWARNING would've been nice )
no subject
As long as everyone's okay.....
What are we out here for, exactly? [She knew it was some sort of practice...]
no subject
[ she mumbles this, appearing behind oz and looking rather annoyed at kevin despite learning it is all for healing.
how dare you stab her property without permission!? ]
no subject
Actually, Gilbert, it's just begun. Release it, if you please.
[ As an afterthought: ]
Miss Rosette, you might want to wait in the car. Or hide behind it, actually.
