Date & Time: 26th-29th December
Location: Japan during the late 16th century!
Characters: A whole bunch of people!
Summary: Saving rice, fighting insects!!
Warnings: None yet!

Summer at its height: a middle-sized village on the outskirts of a province in the midst of a famine with almost wilting half-grown rice crops after their river for some reason ran dry.

With taxes to pay and war nearing or already at their borders, the people of the village though friendly are weary and in despair over their future.

[ She shakes her head. ]

It's nothing. [ Using the magic will take a toll on her, but more than wanting to complete the missions, she wanted to prove Totsuka right. ] I can do it.

[ Beat. ]

But how will we explain this to the villagers? Magic doesn't exist in this world.

[ He studies her for the briefest of seconds then smiles as if nothing's wrong, holding out a victory sign with his hands. ]

I took care of it! [ He lets it hang for dramatic tension and then. ] I explained we were carrying lots of water with us.

[ He points to a barrel. The barrier he'd insisted they take along. It's not the best explanation but it did its job. ]

With Kusanagi-san and the rest entertaining [ distracting ] them, it's up to us!

[ His dramatic way of delivering his messages always has her floored. She's easily carried away by the flow of the conversation. ]

So you had that sort of diversion in mind... [ Since everyone was doing her part, she had to do hers, too. She's getting fired up! ] Okay. Watch me, Tatara!

[ Because if there's anything Kougyoku wants, it's validation. She slides the hairpin out of its place and raises it above her head. ]

Dwell in me, Vinea! [ Light and water surrounds her, and she completes her transformation in a flash. ] I've never shown this to anyone in HOMRA before!

[ He blinks amazed. ]

Whoa...!!

[ It's a good thing Yata isn't here, Totsuka can already imagine him blushing and turning his head away. ]

That's amazing!

[ She giggles because that's the reaction she was expecting. She's more than pleased with it! ]

Isn't it? I worked hard to get this far, you know... [ Just. Just saying. It's not like she wants to be recognized or anything. ] Here I go!

[ She launches off the ground and zooms to the middle of the field so she can distribute the water evenly. It would be better if there was a source of water nearby, but what can she do? Besides, Tatara expected her to help with the use of her powers. She mustn't fail.

A glowing circle inscribed with an eight-pointed star floats over Kougyoku, who is as solemn as ever, while she gets in position. She doesn't have a specific enemy target this time around, so the water must be gentle, but cover a large area... As she recites the following chant, the sky darkens and the clouds above her begin to gather and swirl. ]

Spirit of sorrow and isolation... you who controls the power to make kings, bring forth the great raging streams that judge the surfaced earth! Vainel Ganezza!

[ With this much clouds, the roar and crackle of thunder and bolts of lightning that come with a massive downpour are inevitable. Instead of the usual destructive tsunami or spear of water Kougyoku expects, rain falls on the paddy fields for the first time in months. That should be enough. Kougyoku flies back down to where Totsuka is. ]

I did it, Tatara! [ now give her headpats ]

[ There are probably people gasping somewhere in the village. Whatever Totsuka had expected, it certainly wasn't this but the sight before his eyes is impressive, awe-inspiring. But it wasn't so hard to believe a girl like Kougyoku held such power inside of her -- he'd known Anna, after all.

Greeting her with a smile, he reaches out and pats her on the head. ]

You've done very well! [ He's proud! See, you can use your abilities to help people! ] How are you feeling, Kou-chan?

[ Kougyoku giggles again. Compliments from friends! ]

I used up less magoi than I expected, but with the village being so far from any body of water, this is only a short-term solution. I cannot use Vinea forever. We will need to find water...

[ That didn't answer his question. ]

[ It definitely didn't. He files it under "suspiscious" for now, turning to look around. ]

There's definitely water nearby. Charging in without knowing what happened, though... Well, don't worry, don't worry! Kusanagi-san's an expert in digging up information, you know?

So I hear. He is a resourceful man... at least, he seems that way.

[ Kougyoku transforms back to normal and places her hairpin back where it belongs. If Totsuka didn't bring an umbrella before this, she takes out one she bought cheaply back in the village and holds it over both of them. It's still raining, after all. ]

Let us go back to the others. [ She's a little tired. ]

[ You can't really hide that from someone who always gets tired and can pretend he isn't when he is, Kougyoku!

...or expect Totsuka to carry an umbrella, really.

But then, if she wants to act strong. ]

Alright. [ Offering a hand out, smiling. ] Let's go, Kou-chan.

[ Like the times Judar and Alibaba offered her a hand when she needed it, she more than willingly takes Totsuka's and lets him lead the way. ]
