OPEN: get in the car we're going shopping

Date & Time: 8/21-8/23 daytime
Location: Outside a civilian residential apt building
Characters: BIG SPENDERS or anyone really just tag your butts in and go to town
Summary: Yard saaaale. In the street. Because what is a yard in the future.
Warnings: Blood spilled over ShamWow??

What had begun as the idea of two became the realization of at least seven — all landlord approved and with nods of approval from neighboring apartment buildings. It didn't even take up a full block, but it was full enough to attract attention of passers-by on the morning hustle to work, saddling them up with something worth spreading to others along the grapevine throughout the day.

Mostly clothes and household items easily given up, but here and there a few gems. A would-be Initiative member had no need for old board games or a guitar or two, and there would be no time to take care of a pet, even one so curious and darling as Blinky. Now and then, its soon-to-be-ex-owner cast a sorrowful glance its way, only to get a slow, out-of-synch blink in response.

Oh, Blinky.

Parting woes aside, business wasn't bad! With the shabby state of affairs in Exsilium, the chance for something new, even a hand-me-down, always sparked interest. And with so many strange, new recruits, there was bound to be someone curious enough to drop down the cash for the most absorbent fabric ever made (those Germans made good stuff)...

And so, after the work buses left the area, the tables went up and the wares were put out until the workday would come to a close and force the tables out of the street. Someone was bound to score something worthwhile in that time over those three days...!

Elissa Cousland | OPEN

[Elissa isn't interested in herself, not really. She has some clothes in her room, can easily access food (as she's discovered the joy of buffets) and she can't want for much else. Even her mabari hound at her side is more interested in sniffing around than anything that's there.]

Hey, stay close, you.

[He barks happily and trots along while she looks at some of the tables, stopping in front of the sun-catchers and admiring them. There's some jewelry there too, shiny things that she has to stop and look at.

They remind her of the small baubles she'd find and give to Leliana and Morrigan and it makes her smile wistfully.

Well, she knows what she's getting.]

[Over the years Reya has amassed a fortune in jewelry, and had to sell off every single non-magical piece she's ever owned to finance one expedition or another to save some town or prisoner or druid grove or bauble. There's very little for her to call her own, and for the most part she's okay with this.

Just sometimes, when she sees a mother buying a nice necklace for her daughter, there's a part of her that aches a little.

Shaking that off, she sees another woman in garb similar to hers standing at the same table, though her clothes lack the bright primary colors whoever had designed her magical robe had decided to give it. Some days she worried being a wizard made you colorblind.
]

Amazing what people just give away sometimes.

[She looks up from the stand she's hovering over, smiling faintly at the woman who's joined her. Reya's clothes are so much brighter, eye-catching and appealing. They're nothing like the muted pastel colors of the Circle of Magi, though they don't look too different.

Elissa regards her and then the table.]

I'm more surprised that they collected this many and hardly ever used them.

Sadly I can understand the mentality.

[She smiles, a little wistful, running her fingers over one stone. They'd look better on the woman she is talking to, regal and strong, unlike a too short too thin mage with pointy ears]

You never know when you might need something, so you always hesitate to throw it away, in the process piling up a lot of junk.

[She looks down and smiles at the huge dog next to Elissa. She'd always wanted a familiar, but could never find the time or the right scroll]

[ It's a good thing this is out on the street. Collette wheels herself by the motley collections of items, pausing to peer at whatever catches her attention for a moment here, then over there.

She slows this time to watch Elissa's mabari warhound, eyes going wide. Now that was a dog. She leans forward in her wheelchair, grinning and marveling over how different this dog looked from the retrievers she was used to. ]

What kind of dog is that, miss?

[Oh, OH, he's being spoken about. He likes that. He bounds over and hops around in front of the girl in the wheelchair, his small tail wagging so hard that his entire rear end is wobbling. He's a sight; well-muscled and looking like the fighting dog he is, he's an absolute mush when it comes to new, kind people who might indulge him.

His bonded master, of course, just grins at the display.]

He's a Mabari war hound from my home. You'd never guess it from how he parades himself around, but he doesn't hesitate to take someone's arm off.

He won't hurt you, of course.

[She looks the girl over.]

...Might I ask what you're sitting in?
whatsupcroc: (☇ smile: see what you did there)

[ Collette's trying to rub the fur on the dog's head as soon as he wiggles in reach, amazed at his sheer size. Hearing he can take an arm off doesn't seem remotely out of the question. ]

He's a big bear of a dog! Hey boy, do you like ear scratching? I bet you do.

[ Collette's happy to indulge the dog, as long as he's within reach. She grins up at Elissa, one hand patting her armrest with familiarity. ]

This thing? Something borrowed, as well as something new. All I need is something blue, and I'm set!

[ ... To get married. She wrinkles her nose. Hanging out with Lym is making her thoughts go all weird. ]

It's called a wheelchair.
