you've been acting awful tough lately
Date & Time: The 8th, from 12pm - 3pm
Location: Outside town
Characters: Nill and YOU
Summary: Nill promised to meet an anonymous person on the network, and has decided to send smoke signals with cigarettes to find them. Also action spam.
Warnings: None! Will be updated if needed.
[It's a strange day that finds Nill smoking during daylight hours, but one way or another she's found herself doing exactly that. Small promises made and easy modes of identification, she supposes - she'll end up going through half a pack by the end of this, but it's worth it if she can actually manage to help the person she promised to help.
Even so, it's not difficult to tell that it's a strange sight, a blond girl bundled up, sitting on the trunk of a fallen tree beside one of the better-known ways to town, just... smoking. She doesn't appear to be going anywhere, apparently comfortable where she is, though she smiles at anyone that spares her a glance while they're on their way. She'll be there for most of the early afternoon, from noon to about three, and will welcome anyone that feels like sitting with her.
Hopefully it won't decide to snow while she's sitting there. It's cold enough out as it is, and a new layer isn't going to make her stay terribly pleasant.]

It does seem like it's been awhile since Nill saw her in the Dansion last, though. Kanaya seems momentarily conflicted, so Nill pretends to not have noticed her at first, exhaling another lungful of smoke. She lifts her head when Kanaya finally approaches, and offers her a smile. She spares a discrete glance around, because she's not sure Kanaya knows how secretive she is about the telepathy, and she doesn't want to put her in the situation of someone stumbling across them talking, but there doesn't seem to be anyone too nearby.]
I used to spend a lot of time around people who smoked. It's just something I picked up. [She smiles, almost a little sheepishly. If only Kanaya knew...]
Yes, I do. I haven't since we came down here, though. Do you?

She wonders why Nill stopped, though. They usually only progress... unless they stop, and she did provide a timeframe. Since it's from their return to terra-firma: "Are you trying to be sober for the sake of invaders twenty-four/seven, too?"

She seems just a little embarrassed by the question, and she shakes her head, with a quick wave of a hand.]
No-- it's not that. That's a good reason not to drink, but I didn't need to here.
[In a house surrounded by so many people, she just... didn't feel the need like she used to. Instead, she smoke a cigarette every time she thought of someone she missed, because she had a horrible, sinking feeling they were probably dead for good.
Just the lingering thought makes her raise the cigarette to her lips again for another drag.]

You're saving money that way. [She says that out loud.] I'm curious, actually, where do you work here?

[She spares Kanaya a glance, and takes another drag from her cigarette.] I don't smoke because of addiction, either.
[She exhales, and watches the smoke curl up and away from her. It's always interesting how much longer it seems to stay visible in the air here.]
I have to take odd jobs when I can find them. Most jobs that don't require you to speak with people require physical labor, and most people won't hire me for that.
[She's not that weak, but apparently she looks it.]

"The natives don't give you a chance to explain yourself, huh?" She remembers old Exsilium, in May, when she'd have to take goods and leave money quickly enough to ensure there wouldn't be a fight. "Stephanie Brown -" the blonde human's face probably familiar to Nill through network exposure if nothing else "- might be able to help you with networking, if you exhaust the available options. I know the hospitality is only going to get harder to stretch." Kanaya hated keeping her white lies straight for her current landlady.

[Not a big market for someone that knows how to mix drinks when resources are so low for everyone.
She has seen the face though, mostly just on the network. Nill's fairly certain they've never spoken though, never had any reason to, and certainly never met.]
Thank you, Kanaya. I might speak with her.
[Her cigarette mostly burned out now, Nill takes one more drag and then lets it drop to the ground, where the last flicker of heat is quickly extinguished by the snow.]
Where do you work?
