a happy end
Date & Time: January 15th through January 22nd
Location: Around the town, various winter locations.
Characters: Kaworu & you! plus, separate log with Shinji Ikari inside.
Summary: Kaworu has moved permanently back to Earth from the moonbase. He hasn't met with many of his friends for a while, and he wants to see how they're doing as he explores.
Warnings: will update if necessary. Also, either prose or brackets is fine.
[ open to all, 17th - 22nd]
It's even colder here now than it was earlier in the winter, but the physiological effects pass him over. His body might be shaped like a human's, but his biology is not. For as much as that fact has shaped his life, for the moment it was proving useful - allowing him to mingle with a local population that he's heard is fairly hostile to more otherworldly people.
His first days here were devoted entirely to catching up with his beloved, but after settling in he was reminded of the longing he felt for his other friends. It hasn't been just Shinji who enriched his heart since he was first brought here, but all the others too, and he hasn't forgot about them. With the help of his tablet, he slowly begins sending out short, polite invitations to meet him near the center of town where he sits, waiting. A brown paper bag is at his side, the top curled down to hide its contents.
Even if they don't respond, he doesn't mind. Time means nothing at all, and he's content to pass a few minutes here anyway, watching residents pass. Perhaps fate would even bring him a new acquaintance.

"Honestly, I don't even know this place well enough to have somewhere to explore," he said. "Why don't you take me along somewhere? We can catch up in the meantime."
no subject
With that, Billy makes a beckoning gesture and hurries down the street...well, as fast as he can hurry trudging through all this snow. The snowshoes help, but they can't work miracles.
That doesn't put a damper on his spirit, though, as he's still smiling. The roads he chooses slope ever so slightly upward.
no subject
"Where are we going?"
no subject
Billy sounds so pleased with himself. He hurries right up to the top, where he's stored his boards in a small shed. He pulls both out with a big grin.
"It's probably not impressive to someone with abilities like yours, but I've been working on ways to improve transportation speed. I visited a ski resort once and learned to snowboard, so I thought I'd try again. I'm not usually one for cold weather activities, but I did enjoy gliding over the hill!"
no subject
He tips his head with the question, earnestly curious. He is only marginally familiar with the basic concept... not only has he never done it, but there was hardly any snow back in his home world, so there weren't many opportunities to learn about it through cultural osmosis, either.
"You overestimate my 'abilites' on something I've never done, you know," he says as he watches Billy pull the boards out. "If you've done it before, you're going to be much better than me at it."
no subject
"For example...you're doing really well for yourself these days, right?"
no subject
"Well for myself? Hmm." That question obviously has nothing to do with Kaworu's athleticism, which means Billy has something on his mind. "What do you mean?"
no subject
It's Shinji, isn't it? That was the last major thing Billy remembered---but he doesn't want to say it, in case he's wrong.
no subject
Then, he steps towards the other snowboard and throws it down onto the snow, mimicking the way Billy had prepared to ride.
"Is that how I come across now?" Taking a seat on the ground, he sets his shoes into the straps on the board. "You may be right. I think I am feeling happier lately."
no subject
Because Billy's so excellent at putting his foot in his mouth, he rambles on. "I know you have so many ideas I can't even begin to fathom, and there's so much going on. But you've found peace."
It had always bothered Billy, not being able to know what was wrong, not being able to truly relate. But someone clearly could, and for that, Billy was happy too.
"I wonder, though, how quickly you'll find your balance?" Billy teases gently, standing at the ready to offer any assistance.
no subject
With some effort, Kaworu manages to stand up from the ground with the board strapped to both feet. He didn't quite put it on in exactly the right way, but at any rate, he looks as ready as anyone could be.
Kaworu knows what Billy is really getting at here - he wants to ask about Shinji, and of course he would want to ask about that. The angel gives him a cool smile before bending his knees and hopping slightly towards the tiny incline that Billy slid down earlier. Just from that motion, one might anticipate that Kaworu is going to be a natural at this.
"Have you found your balance, Billy?"
no subject
Billy glides in a gentle curve, pondering the question with his mouth twisted to the side. Huh. Billy's physical balance is fine. That's not the question, though, is it? With Kaworu, that always seems to be the case.
There's not a comfortable answer to that one.
"I've started teetering off the wagon," he confesses, "but that's how I tend to react to stress. Poring over every book, convinced that I have to find the solution somewhere. But out here in the open air...it's clearing my head."
He smiled to demonstrate this. The simple pleasure of company still meant something---and yes, that meant Billy would need to return to his friends. All of them.
"Gliding's also better with company. They can push you back into place if you trip."
no subject
Stopping is a little more difficult, though. His arms flail for a moment, and then he falls backwards, landing in the soft snow with a powdery thump. Well... he did just say you'll trip sometimes. A little unintentional symbolism for once.
Chuckling, he pushes himself up. "Hm. That was interesting."
no subject
Billy shows off the motion once, still chattering away. "And let me know when you'd rather step inside, there's something else as well..."
He's so many steps ahead that he might stumble behind again, as usual. As long as it involves keeping Kaworu beside him for just a little while.
