[OPEN TO ALL] 2nd DEFENSE MEETING

Date & Time: Nov. 10th, early morning to late afternoon/evening
Location: Near the Botanical Gardens
Characters: EVERYONE AND ANYONE. Ehether it was previously arranged with Fiona, someone else did the convincing, or they just happen to be around at the right time.
Summary: Second Defense Meeting. Some chatting, some sparring, a little showing off, and everything in between.
Warnings: Swearing and violence, very yes.



[Only problem with trying to have the meeting near a botanical garden is unfortunately the spacious non-elevated scenery. At least last time there was rubble to hop on, but no matter. Near the front of the gathering crowd, Fiona will do what she can to find something to stand on and if that’s not enough she’ll tap her staff loudly onto the ground and it’ll produce a bright light for a moment. Hopefully it’s an attention grabber.]

Thank you everyone for coming to our second defense meeting. For those of you coming again and those of you here for the first time, welcome. Although this place itself is hardly one to be welcomed to, I am glad to see others here. We are trying to be a united effort and for this I say welcome to. I’m Fiona and I’m the one who has been coordinating the meetings thus far.

[A short breath as a small bitterness creeps onto her tone of voice] As I can never stress enough, those Initiative bastards here are unorganized fools who trip over themselves while we are expected to win this war of theirs for them. Although they have made some improvements since the recent battle they still lack any generals or commanders to guide us. We are our own guidance and our own defense andit is up to ourselves to keep each other safe and deliver a blow on this enemy of theirs without sacrificing each other to do so.

I won’t lie to you, this defense may not only be one against the UE. In past months the Initiative has performed… tests on those they’ve brought here. These tests have been harmful to us, from poisoning to using our own memories against us. Whatever mishap or cause that they may claim to have brought these tests about still proves their incapability to defend the very soldiers they’ve brought here unwillingly to fight. However just their cause may be, we are on our own to defend ourselves. From whatever may come against us.

For the meeting today, I hope for everyone to get to know one another. That is our greatest disadvantage. We are all from different worlds where some have magic, or technology, or neither. It is impossible to predict what each other are capable of and that is why we must learn. If we do not then lives may be lost for what we never cared to know.

Our third meeting to come we will be deciding our leaders. For as it stands there are none.

Each person attending our meetings will be able to nominate a person they see fit to lead those around them. But they will not be able to nominate themselves. Three nominations and others may vote for them. Those nominated will be allowed to make a short speech during the meeting’s time and answer questions to those concerned. At the end of the meeting we will vote. And hopefully we will have five leaders by the end of our third meeting. These leaders will be choosing groups that the rest of us will adhere to. Come our fourth meeting, we will see if the chosen leaders are the ones right for their positions and if the groups made are truly capable of defending one another.

We will not allow each other to fall.

[She’ll take a moment to look around then before nodding. At least it appears that most were listening.]

That would make it more than a few days. It had, from what I remember, stopped when I made my way here.

And I suppose that if this idea takes off, it will need people like you as well.

[Admin types are needed everywhere. As a Captain, he himself has a fair amount of paperwork to take care of, and he's never shirked it, but hsi true skill is the sword.]

A week maybe. Time seems to go fast and slow at the same time, here. I feel like I've been here forever and yet it's been what, a month or two?

[His lip curls in amusement.] You say 'people like you' as if it's a painful afterthought.

As a rule, I dislike working with humans. Their sense of morality only vaguely resemble ours, and the difference in power is such that we spend more time protecting them than actually doing our duty on the rare time we do fight alongside.

[Well, except for Ichigo and co, but none of them are what you'd call run-of-the-mill human.]

However, it is my duty as a shinigami to portect human souls, wherever I may be. And being human doesn't per se disqualify anyone from being involved in this venture. My own shortcomings in this area mine to overcome.

I have noticed, though, that there appear to be relatively few humans around.

[Lifts his eyebrows at him.] Morality changes with the times. Maybe you don't change and that's why ours doesn't match.

[He shrugs his shoulders.] There are humans here, but they have different powers. I don't know if that would change their souls or not.

Power does change the soul. It doesn't necessarily make it less human.

[Inoue Orihime and Yasutora Sado are human. Kurosaki Ichigo, now, that's something else. He is definitely a shinigami, albeit mixed with something else, but his has human morals, and they guide him through his fights.

... OF course, he is also sturdy enough to withstand Byakuya's power, which a lot of people here won't be.]

I suppose the people in charge of organization will have to take this into account. From what it looks like, I am not sure I would be a good match to work with anybody.

You seem more likely to have subordinates than an actual partner who's equal to you. Much less a group of supposed equal.

[He's go no problem pointing out you are hardly a team player unless you are the leader of said team, Kuchiki.]

So, can you tell who's a human with powers versus one that has none?

I am a Division Captain.

[And he makes a good team with his Lieutenant because said Lieutenant listens to his orders. And his people tend to be devoted to him because he fights with thme and takes responsibility for their lives.

... But he doesn't work very well with fellow captains, that's true. Not many of them do well in teams, except maybe Ukitake and Kyouraku. YOu don't become a commanding officer by being a team player, but by taking charge when necessary.]

Normally, yes. I may not be able to identify the exact power if I have never seen it before, but I can tell who has some specific spiritual energy.

[There's the softest of snorts.] Definitely not a team player then.

Being able to find people just through spiritual energy alone is pretty damn convenient. Seriously, all of you special types make my skills seem pretty damn paltry, necessary or not.

To us those powers are nothing special, just simple biology. It is hardly something you can call a skill when it comes to you as naturally as breathing.

That's like saying someone who's good at running and has always run can't calling running a skill. You may have always been able to do it, but I dare you to say you've always been able to do it as well as you can now.

Some people are better at it than others, I suppose. But the basics of it are still something every shinigami can do.

[Whether they were born one or became one, the ability to feel and control reiatsu was the common point between them.]

Had you heard of these distateful experiments before?

I can't argue against that.

[But his point had still been made. He lifts his chin a bit.] I have, but not much. Bad visions, from what I understand. I don't know what the experiment was supposed to do.
