Date & Time: Over the course of a few days during some vague point of November.....
Location: The Catacombs
Characters: Everybooody (yeaaa-aaah)
Summary: Time to explore some caves. Grab your backpack! Let's go! Ivaminos!
Warnings: who even knows, really bad jokes.

The caverns were massive and expansive. They certainly weren't going to run out of places to look, which, considering this was a jaunt fueled largely by boredom, was encouraging. Down below, there were the remains of the emergency camps and makeshift dwellings the natives and transports had made during the bombing a few months earlier. Beyond that were relics of ages past, in various degrees of decomposition, including a somewhat distressing amount of CDs that seemed to be largely made up of boybands from the 1990's stacked neatly at the end of one cavern.

Clearly this called for further exploration.

[ Considering the last time she had been down here, she'd spent the entire time sleep deprived and on the peak of draining her powers, this trip down could only be an improvement.

Though she really did hope she didn't jinx herself...

Having never actually gone splunking before, Wanda had made sure to find a pair of good sturdy shoes and left her cape and skirts back in her room for a proper pair of pants and a jacket. She actually looked more like a civilian, rather than someone who's patiently waiting for next year's RenFair. Granted, with the mad mix of curious people who'd come along, blending in wasn't really much of a concern.

At the moment, she was more interested in boggling at what had apparently once been a stack of Cosmos, the crumbling top cover proudly proclaiming: 2-0 WA S TO P EAS- UR MA !]

Dressed in full tactical gear including helmet, the only thing odd on him was his rapier. There was no machine gun, no grenades strapped to him but there are two pistols strapped to his thighs and ammo clips on his web belt. The suit was bulky and the space where his eyes would be are glowing a deep red. This is infravision with a gas mask attached to the inside of the bulky headgear.

He strode over toward the CDs and shook his head. "I would rather not pick that up." His voice sounded mechanical but clear.

The more Frodo traveled, the more he had begun to appreciate the many differences that came with living underground. There were nice, comfortable hobbit holes, in nice, comfortable hills, and then there great cities spidering off under the very mountains themselves, and now, these caverns. Like Moria, it was gold, but the air seemed less stale to him, and the damage more fresh. There was, however, the same unpleasant, sour smell that sat heavy in the air; Frodo's nose wrinkled.

He had volunteered for this trip in the end. He would only know more about the place if he took a good look himself, although some part of Frodo was wondering about the decision as he slipped easily through one of the tighter spots. Frodo, after a moment, made his way down, clinging as he could to the rocks and boulders. It took him sometime before he landed on the bottom of this section, but shining the strange light he was given, it was clear that a good many people had taken up here.

[CDs and they're boy bands WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. Almost as bad as those Twilight novels people keep finding. Well anyway. Johnny will be wandering around, not really sure what he's supposed to be doing exactly, but he doesn't really care. Exploring was the point, so exploring he will do.

He'll stop to talk to anyone he might stumble across.]

<sub>( Crystal doesn’t have much of a problem being in tunnels; her unique gifts mean that she doesn’t have to worry about cave-ins or injury. So she makes her way down with sure steps and a kind of blasé confidence. She’s dressed, as usual, in yellow and black, but her normal and slightly elaborate costume has been abandoned for the day in favor of something more “normal.” There’s a black scarf around her neck, and occasionally she’ll pause to rest one gloved hand against the cave walls, eyes shut as though she’s listening for something.

All in all, she seems to be in a good mood. She doesn’t mind the word, and actually enjoys the adventure the tunnels present. If she’s eyeing some of the artifacts rather quizzically, well, that’s neither here nor there. It’s almost as if she’s deciding whether or not to laugh; the CD’s and magazines and other half-ruined remnants remind her of a life she enjoyed, but there’s also something somber about looking at them. Those pensive moments only last instants, however, and for the most part she’s charging in full steam ahead. )</sub>

<sub>( Crystal's along for this ride for lack of anything better to do, and she comes up beside Wanda with something of a wry smile on her face. There's still a knot of complicated emotions in her stomach in connection to Pietro's family, but she's more or less decided to shove them away because they are her family, too, with or without him. And Wanda just happens to be fantastic companionship no matter what the circumstances.

Now, though, Crystal's looking at the magazine and stifling a laugh by pursing her lips. )</sub>

It's not... quite what I was expecting.

[Hey sexy lady. As Adam sees Crystal, he smiles to himself, stepping over a stack of CDs. Well, between Crystal and Wanda, at least the trip won't be completely dull. He's wearing his normal outfit-a black suit over a blue button-up shirt. His katana hangs at his side. Adam doubted that he would need to use the sword, but after not having it for so long, he wasn't going to give it up that easily.]

I don't know what an 'S Club 7' is, but I'm already slightly terrified. [Adam said, as a greeting, with a joking smile on his face, as he brandished an S Club 7 cd. He smiled at Crystal.] How have you been?

Lucifer was hoping for monsters and drama and so far had found neither. It was better than being bored above-ground, maybe/maybe not, though. At least there was something new to see and map out - all he was really doing here was meandering in and out of the tunnels, mostly walking on his two feet with an occasional flighty hop. He may have been behind you at some point, but now he's over there! Such is the nature of having invisible wings.

But he's having a good enough time not to cause any trouble at this point, picking through the CDS and freezing them one by one, chucking the shattering plastic against the rock walls. He touched the wall to try and understand the place better, feeling for seismic disruptions and the sounds of creatures in the wall. Sensing, listening.

"What a mysterious world they've brought us too," he murmured, picking up a bit of rock and considering it.

As you should be, I think.

<sub>( She takes one look at the CD and has to hide a giggle behind her hand. She spent enough of her indulgent youth on earth to know bad 90s music when she sees it. So even if she doesn’t immediately recognize all the names, she’s gotten the gist by now.

But after that Adam gets a smile and a regal nod of greeting. She kneels down to sift through some other artifacts, thoughtful. )</sub>

Settling in. This is a pretty colorful place.

[Adam idly throws the CD down to the ground, looking around at the area. Colorful certainly is putting it mildly. He chuckles slightly, and looks down at Crystal.]

I wonder...all of these artifacts are around a certain time. Why isn't there anything more recent?

I don't know much about this place, yet, but it obviously... diverged from the timelines we came from. Maybe around when all this stuff was relevant.

_{( She pauses, then brushes her hair back from her face and gets back to her feet. )}

But that's a depressing thought.

[Adam frowned, picking up another CD. He looked at the copyright date: 1996. Another one from that time. How odd.]

It seems to have picked a lot of us from times after the divergence, whenever it was. [He wasn't pretending to know everything about everyone's dates here, but most of them seemed to be around the mid 2000s. He hadn't seen any CDs or magazines past 1999.]

Maybe they think we'll try and steer things back to how they are, or were, for us.

_{( She's eyeing the CDs agian, now and then rolls eyes. )}

Though if we're going to go retro, I would've preferred something a little further back. The Bangles, maybe.

[As she mentioned the Bangles, Adam frowned, looking slightly confused.] The who?

[Adam asked, frowning at Crystal. He was locked up in a cell for all of the 1980s, he had an excuse to not be completely through in his pop culture knowledge.]

Oh, I guess the Who's good, too, but they were never really my style.

_{( That was a horrible joke, seeing as she hadn't actually misinterpreted. So she laughs. )}

[ Wanda turns slightly to offer her a smile. ]

I'm afraid it really isn't as impressive as it originally sounded.

[ She delicately lifted several of magazine pages.]

Still, I suppose you could say it's a way to revisit a more familiar age. I'm sure there's an archaeologist somewhere in this day and age who would have an absolute fit over finding all of this.

Wanda had been watching Lucifer out of the corner of her eye for the better part of five minutes. Or, well, she had been trying at least, but he did seem to have a rather ridiculous habit of disappearing and reappearing somewhere uncomfortably close. True to his word, nothing terrible had happened just yet, but Wanda was still cautious.

At the sound of his voice (coming from her left when she had sworn he'd been at her right), she looked up from the various stalagmites she was picking her way around.

"Oh- Sorry?" She hadn't quite caught what he had said.

[Adam laughed as well, shaking his head slightly. Now that was a band he had actually heard of.]

I suppose I walked right into that one, didn't I.

[crystalia]

You really did. And that's why I'm not going to apologize for it.

_{( Her smile is sharp, this time. )}

"This place is very interesting, don't you think?" He said, looking over his shoulder at her and tossing the rock up and down lightly. "I mean, not just for the sociopolitical drama, which is somewhat entertaining if not a bit repetitive, but also the geological, environmental and historical situation that the place is in." He crunched the rock in his fist, wiping the dust off his palms.

"I don't know if you've been outside the city, but I'm impressed by the sheer level of long-term devastation humanity's managed to wreck on the planet so thoughtfully given to them. You always manage to outdo yourselves."

I suppose I can't blame you for that. [He says, with a shrug.]

[crystalia]

No. You can't.

Though I guess you could take some of these back and find out exactly what "S Club 7" sounds like.

It makes it a bit horrifying to think about what's been left behind, doesn't it? Makeup tips and sex secrets.

I don't see any harm in that. I'm sure it can't be that bad.

[Walking back to the CDs, Adam browsed through them, picking up the S Club 7 cd he found as well as a few others that looked interesting.]

Collette was glad of her bat morph, one she hadn't put through too much heavy use since acquiring, for the tight maneuvering she was allowed in low light to near total darkness. She wasn't sure how she got down into the cavern she found herself clutching to the ceiling of right now, but she vaguely believed she was on track toward the areas in the catacombs that had been so promising last month.

Echolocation was a wonderful read on the room, feeding her more information than she ever thought one single mind could interpret until the first time she'd gone bat -- and later, dolphin. She lets out a serious of rapid clicks, listening for the feedback after believing she heard someone enter the area.

Down there. The image her mind fed back of was of something moving, reading back in her mind's eye as something human formed. One of her fellow adventurers? Collette sure hoped so as she tentatively called out in Thought Speak, pitching her mental tone as friendly as she could.
