Date & Time: Mid-afternoon Sunday, May 5th
Location: The Hold and Housing Complex
Characters: All who wish to be in the vicinity!
Summary: The Initiative asked for the Housing Complex to be evacuated starting early morning on 5/5, in preparation for the expected landing of the spaceship stolen from the United Earth. The landing goes horribly wrong when an undiscovered bomb detonates onboard the ship, causing partial engine failure. The ship proceeds to be crash landed into the Housing Complex; no lives, however, are lost.

The ship breaks cloud-cover as a spot of light in the dreary skies, leaving behind the beauty of sunlight above the broken cloud layer as it continues to descend. With the Initiative having instigated an evacuation of the area ahead of time, just in case, those watching in the light drizzle may find it an interesting sight to behold.

Doubtlessly, the United Earth, from its great distance, may have also found it interesting.

The first sign of something going wrong is an explosion visible from the ground. People who hear it might startle; the ship itself goes from a smooth, controlled flight path to one wobbly and filled with dark, flaming smoke. The whine of its remaining engine is slower to reach the ground, though the ship itself seems to pick up a spiraling speed, still controlled to those familiar with watching things that fly come crashing down to the ground.

The Initiative members on the ground are calling for people to get back and take cover. Inside the main Hold, one man at the transport pads hears his radio blast to life and swallows past his own fear, glancing at the active pad waiting to pull in another unlucky soul.

When the ship hits the Housing Complex, it demolishes the upper levels, though the force with which it hits doesn't seem to be the same as what it should be. Combined telekinetic buffering and excellent piloting from a former Guardian of the Universe Galaxy keeps damage to a catastrophic minimum.

[ Her instinctual move was towards the building and the chaos. Instinctual, because that's what she's operating on almost entirely at the moment, too much panic flooding her to do anything but revert to what she'd learned over years and years.

She stops halfway there, half turns around and glances back towards the other buildings and safety, and that's when she spots Robin. ]

Need a hand? [ Her voice sounds rusty to her ears, but she can - she can help, and she should. ]

[ The voice is familiar in that niggling way that says the name it goes with should be popping right to mind. He knows it. When he turns and catches Max there his eyes widen a little, then his expression shifts once it registers.

Need a hand she'd said. Not run or hide or anything along the lines what adults like her tend to say in situations like this one. ]

I need all the hands I can get. [ He shoves hard at the chunk of debris he's working on moving, then takes his hands off it and steps back. ]

They need a path out the building, so I have to shift this over.

[ There was a difference between the ideals she would like to be able to carry out and the moments people needed help and it didn't matter who was offering it.

Besides that, at the moment there's nothing but instinct left, and instinct tells her she's worked with kids plenty often before. ]

We can get it together. On three? [ Moving to the rubble and crouching as she searches for a handhold. Lift with your back, right? ]

[ He'll think about this - think about her more later. He reaches for the other side and braces with his knees, more than halfway determined to take the brunt of the weight when it moves. ]

You bet. Just say the word. [ And he flashes her a grin. ]

One. Two. Three. [ And she lifts on three. She's a lot stronger than she looks and her muscles aren't by any means invisible - she has no intention of letting him take the brunt of something she can handle. ]

[pixieboots]

Wow, you're- [ The words are gone in a rush. He's trying, pushing hard with his legs and back until it starts to shift in the right direction. ]

Hey, you're pretty strong.

[motherofnemesis]

[ She helps, waits to answer until they've gotten it to where it needs to be put aside. ]

I've trained a lot, yes.

[pixieboots]

I'll say. [ His fingers are a little numb so he clenches and unclenches a few times to get the blood flowing again. ]

Thanks for the help. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't showed up.

[ One hand goes to her forehead, rubbing at the temples in an attempt to relieve the pressure of the crowd, and she answers without thinking. ]

Found a way. It's what you guys do, right?

[pixieboots]

It's in the MO and everything. [ Though his attention's definitely on her now, while she looks... like that. Maybe she'd been injured, somehow? ]

...You're okay, right?

[motherofnemesis]

Sometimes consistency is important.

[ His question surprises her for a moment and then she pulls her hand away, manages a slightly crooked smile. ]

Yeah, sure. You need any more help?

No, I'm okay. [ He squares his shoulders up on instinct, hoping... hoping almost absurdly that maybe he looks a little less like someone who needs a shadow. A caregiver, instead of an ally. What's the grownup, professional thing to say when you're wrapping a (sort of) team up? ]

If you ever need a hand I'll pay back the favor, okay?

All right. [ Normally she might insist a little more.

Normally she didn't have the panic of a huge crowd insisting on running through her head, though, and the immediate danger was over for now. He could handle this. ]
