OPERATION SEXY MARIO: CONCLUSION
Date & Time: Sept 19th
Location: The UE Holding Compound, and surrounding area.
Characters: Anyone being rescued, doing the rescuing, or doing the distracting.
Summary: There have been some slackers freeloading off the UE for the past couple weeks or so, so let's go drag them home.
Warnings: Likely violence! Let a mod know if we should update this.
Those meant for distraction and those meant for rescue alike are both loaded onto the same stolen highspeed train. It's a great distance to cover, but the train manages in just under two hours, and deposits both groups three miles from the Holding Compound — a desolate and cold area, with rocky, uneven ground, small but jagged hills well-scattered and covered in scraggly trees — and there they part ways.
The diversion is sent away north, to draw United Earth attention and aggression upward, further into the continent, while the rescue team takes a much slower and quieter route to approach the Compound from the south, closest to Exsilium. The rescue team's orders are to wait a full half hour, to be sure that all forces who can be drawn out of the Compound to meet the sudden onslaught from the north will have already left.
The diversion team won't have an easy job of it. The soldiers are heavily armed, and trained to fight to the death before they surrender. They're grouped in organized squadrons, about 20 in each, and seem to outnumber Transports by three to one. Scattered throughout these soldiers are the Masked, the UE's special forces. These soldiers strike with a deadly precision, enhanced speed and strength, and highly advanced weaponry. Also, oddly enough, they seem to have a few smaller members among them, standing about 4 feet tall, and wielding strange powers… Those familiar with the powers of their kidnapped friends may see distinct similarities.
The Compound itself, when the rescue team makes their way in, will be very quiet. All prisoners had been forced into locked rooms (together or separately — whatever was most convenient) before the soldiers had left to face the encroaching threat. There are still personnel left to man the base, of course, and a few of them are armed soldiers — but for the most part it's scientists and researchers. Careful, though. Even scientists and researchers are perfectly capable of sounding the alarm to bring back the armed threats.
Once everyone is out of the Compound, the train will begin running a return trip. It will be kept as long as possible, while the distraction teams sneak back from the battlefield in small groups, but it can't wait forever. Those on the battlefield for the longest, the hardest hitters or the most dedicated fighters, might just have to find another way home. So… any Transports with relocation abilities feel like lending a hand?

He sees Mary, and he sees her nodding off. He approaches her, shrugging off his jacket now to put it over her shoulders, a hand on her head.]
Mary, if you're going to sleep you should find Kido first.
no subject
Oh, it's just Shintaro.
So she lets out a shaky little breath as she calms herself, and shakes her head.]
I was with Kido earlier...
[But on the other hand, if he's actually telling her to do that...?]
... Is she okay?
no subject
[Scoot over, fluffy. Shintaro doesn't nudge her over, but he finds himself a spot on the edge of the seat next to Mary and sighs tiredly before glancing over at her.]
If you were going to sleep, don't do it when there isn't anybody you know around.
no subject
[It's less a word and more a sound like an exhale or gasp. It'd finally happened. She was so tired she hadn't taken that into consideration. If Shintaro hadn't come by when he did, and she'd fallen asleep, then...?
Then what? She doesn't want to think about it.
But Shintaro is definitely someone she knows and someone she can trust, so when she sees what he's doing, she jumps slightly at the realization before moving to the next seat over. Quickly.]
Sorry -- thanks, Shintaro...

[He's frazzled, upset, some parts angry and many parts scared and he's sick of this war again. He wants to go home, pretend Exsilium never happened, even if it means Ayano also never happened. He doesn't like it. But Mary makes it difficult to hold onto all that when he's already sighing in his head over how much talking to her reminds him of when he and Momo were growing up and it took her forever to understand the most simplest safety measures.]
Well, it'd help me to have something to do, so I can stay here for a bit if you want to rest.
no subject
[She's not really in a mood to argue anymore. She's tired. Kido is [has to be] okay and Kano is [has to be] okay and everyone else is [has to be] okay and she's done everything she can, hasn't she? This was the longest day she'd had in a while.
So she'll just take a nap. Shintaro won't let anything happen. He's a good person, and Momo would be devastated.
So she'll just lean her head on his shoulder, not quite asleep yet.]
no subject
You were with Kido and Momo, right?
no subject
[Since it wasn't like they'd be the ones hurting anyone. She knows she doesn't have to specify, but she does.]

no subject
That's good. You're pretty amazing, you know that?
no subject
Her face just lights up from the joy of it all.]
-- Really...?!
no subject
Yeah. I remember... the first time I saw you I freaked you out and you fell off your chair, but then you were really excited at the amusement park, and... how do I put it?
You're, you know, you're tough?
no subject
[If she's tough -- tough, strong, whatever, then she can protect everyone. Even when they do head home, if she were a strong person, couldn't she start working the way Seto does? And then she could help out in the same way. Strong people aren't afraid of others.
... But it'll be slow. She knows that now, but it's still so great to hear she's making progress.]
no subject
Well... I think you're doing better than me, at least.
no subject
So maybe it's Kido. Maybe it's everyone.
Anyway, she shakes her head.]
You're doing really well, Shintaro... You're talking to people, and you helped here too...!
no subject
[Now that she says it, he tenses again and laughs nervously to hide it. He did help here, didn't he? Against better judgement. Despite knowing that he wasn't a fighter. He could've told Ayano it was too dangerous, but instead he'd gone along with her...]
Hopefully, we won't have to do it again for a while.
no subject
["You're actually really cool," she thinks to add, but his second sentence throws her off slightly.
If she could help it? She doesn't want to do this ever again. But she knows that's impossible, at least where they are now, so she'll settle for doing it infrequently and without any rescue missions involved.
She also knows she's asking for too much, but it'd be nice. A little quieter; ]
... I hope so too.
no subject
It shouldn't be too bad. I... think it won't be too bad. Either way, you, you know, you've got us. Even if Kano acts dumb sometimes.
[Is this where he pats her head? this might be where he pats her head. He gives that a try.]
no subject
[And then he pats her head and she makes this soft little surprised noise. Her hair, of course, is also very soft. Anyway, she recognizes the action for what it's supposed to be -- a soothing gesture. Everyone really worried about her a lot, didn't they...? It's nice. This is nice. So her smile returns as quickly as it disappeared.]
Everyone is here with me, so I'm not afraid.
no subject
[It's hard not to take her words and simply appreciate the sincerity behind them. Antisocial, cynical him, talking to a girl who genuinely cared for the people she called her friends and gained her confidence through them. It was one of those things about the dan he couldn't help but like.]
Well, I'm glad to hear that. I'm sure you'll be fine.
