[OPEN TO ALL] 3rd DEFENSE MEETING
Date & Time: Dec. 22nd, early morning to late afternoon/evening
Location: Near the Botanical Gardens
Characters: EVERYONE AND ANYONE.
Summary: Third Defense Meeting. IT’S FINALLY VOTING TIME. Speeches and questioning the nominees and likely some chatter for those too bored/annoyed to pay attention to the speeches. (Voting will be done in an OOC post in mid-Jan) Basically it’s a giant CR picnic.
Warnings: Language. Otherwise I’m assuming no one will try and kill the nominees or anything… WILL CHANGE IF NEED BE.
[Someone’s looking a little better than she did a few days ago, at least not as exhausted in appearance. Finding a bench to stand on to at least get some height over others she’ll do the usual tapping her staff loudly and clearing her throat to gather attention.]
Thank you all for coming and taking an interest in our cause. Our cause for defense for each other as we fight this battle from all sides on our own. Today we will be deciding our leaders. We have spent far longer than enough getting to know each other and who would be the best candidates for such a role. Now we must choose who.
First we will begin with choosing our nominees, they will each have a chance to give a speech, and by the end of the meeting a vote will be held deciding whether or not they are the right choice for their nominated title. They will each be also given a chance to nominate a Second who will act alongside them.
In the weeks to come those leading will create groups. The goal is that each group will hold a specialty and as a whole we will be able to form an effective defense. In battles they will fight together, in times of crises they will protect those in need, when things are amiss they will know who they can trust and others will know the same. And we will no longer be entirely on our own.
[She’ll give a pause and look at anyone watching before giving a short nod.]
There’s much to accomplish today and I won’t delay things further. We will begin with the nominations…
[OOC: NOMINATIONS are in. SO. We have three nominees; Anora, Edgeworth, and Elissa /o/. Each will have their own thread with the starting comment being their speech. The speeches will be improvised but they’ll be choosing their Second/Assistant/Minion? in the speech. After the speech characters can question them and corner them like small animals with interrogations from said nominees’ thread. Come mid-Jan there will be a vote in the OOC comm that is meant to be done ICly. The vote will be a simple yay or nay since we have so few nominees. If the majority are nays to one nominee then they lose. More on that later. But ICly time wise, the nominations are made at the start of this meeting and the voting is completed by the end of this meeting. The reason for the OOC time delay is for backtagging enjoyment. PM me if you have any questions. :)]

The three choices really didn't make Lee feel much better about what their fate would be since one of them was die hard police force supporter and official, the other he wasn't too sure about. Still, they were his allies.
"Who do you think will win this? I'm all out of popcorn and chocolate covered coffee beans."

He shifted his weight slightly and mused for a moment. "It's not so much the intent of the cause that has created the existence of such a thing, I happen to agree that Fiona does have a certain" he twirled his wrist while he was thinking of the word, "light to her that could be of interest though a troublesome point at best. I believe she is a commander."
Then his thoughts turned to Edgeworth, "However, the attorney does make a valid point that there is a balance needed and since he has the backing of the Initiative in the creation of the police force, I worry that his own judgment could be clouded by antiquated ideals. I believe he is more prone to take the side of the Initiative than for our own interests, don't you think?"
While Miles is a friend to Lee, he felt it was best to gauge than to engage.

"The problem with the police and lawyers is they get there after the fact. This is for defense, but here's to hoping it won't just be another reactionary force. We have enough of those as it is." Blaine waved a hand vaguely. "We do need balance, and maybe he could serve better as a go-between for us, the police, and the Initiative. At the very least he should be good at arguing a point and being persuasive, as long as it's for our needs. But who can really tell, if he has his hands in so many different pots."

He listened to Blaine and turned his head to regard the speaker. Silver eyes locked on and he gave his undivided attention. "Hm, I worry now if he has stretched himself too thin. While I commend his efforts in trying to keep the peace among us, perhaps with this he could thin down some of his obligations. It would be a wise investment of his time to do so."

Silver eyes met blue and Blaine wasn't discomforted or fidgety about the direct eye contact, even if the eyes were an unusual color. If anything now he got to stare with purpose. "He doesn't seem the type who would relinquish his responsibilities to another, though he should be good at delegating. Assuming he has people he trusts with the task and his reputation."

Lee wasn't too sure about the choice of Mile's second though she was trusted implicitly so that said a lot about her character. "Perhaps there is something to be said about having two attorneys on the floor. At least now they can find the truth and together, they might do just that."
He was more of a background person now and he didn't mind it. It was like being back home. If he wanted the spotlight on him, he would take it willingly, otherwise, he would remain obfuscated.

"I am inclined to agree." How could he refuse otherwise?
"Still, you must admit, it would be most beneficial for all of us if they kept the ruse long enough to play the game until the end. Let's see how well they can keep up with the growing number of Transports that refuse authority." It was almost a sadistic thought but an amusing one at that.

"Perhaps. Still, one must think about the consequences should they arise and despite an attorney's shortcomings, they are useful. Ah, then there is the question of adjustment. Do you realize how many people panic on the network upon arrival? It's almost enough to make me turn the thing off. We don't exactly have a welcoming committee other than what the Initiative provides."

"It would make for an interesting topic though. How exactly would something like that run? It wouldn't be too successful judging from the mass hysteria within upon arrival." He lifted his finger to his chin as if in mock innocence.

His smirk grew and turned his head slightly in a playful tone. "Why, Blaine, you are such a forward thinker. Such lists would take time to compile, yes? Although a worthy endeavor, I wouldn't mind taking up the challenge on the last subject on your list. Ah, but alas, I'm a bit lazy with such things."
It was hard to tell if he was playing with the idea or not but the assumptions no matter the outcome would be welcome.

"Oh, now I'm the opposite. Although, I can make the time for someone worth my time." In all honesty, Lee could care less about what's going on as long as his friends and those he cared about weren't hurt in his lack of interest which was only on the surface.
His smirk stayed. "I'm sure you could." He eyed Blaine's tall body up and down and he certainly liked them strong. Male or female.

Now, the dinner invitation was certainly welcome even if they couldn't abscond to a different location. Lee understood it clearly and gave a nod to his head. "Mm, that is an acceptable offer. I prefer to know my potentials first. A splendid idea."
There was time for that later anyway and he certainly wouldn't mind the wait. It would just make the encounter just that much more enticing. "As I said, I'll make the time, you name the place and the date."
no subject
He's not sure if he truly wants the responsibility or not, but he'd accept whatever came of it. Until then though, "Next Thursday would be good. Around 6 o'clock. I'm in apartment 207."

At the mention of the appointment, he looked to Blaine with a smile. "Excellent. I'll be there." He wasn't going to forget it since now that's the first real date he had to work with since he arrived.

"Alas, I am only one man and I do believe in giving my all to one demanding mistress at a time." He chuckled playfully. "My work is hardly done but then I would be rather bored if I had nothing that demanded my personal and undivided attention."
