[OPEN TO ALL] 3rd DEFENSE MEETING

Date & Time: Dec. 22nd, early morning to late afternoon/evening
Location: Near the Botanical Gardens
Characters: EVERYONE AND ANYONE.
Summary: Third Defense Meeting. IT’S FINALLY VOTING TIME. Speeches and questioning the nominees and likely some chatter for those too bored/annoyed to pay attention to the speeches. (Voting will be done in an OOC post in mid-Jan) Basically it’s a giant CR picnic.
Warnings: Language. Otherwise I’m assuming no one will try and kill the nominees or anything… WILL CHANGE IF NEED BE.

[Someone’s looking a little better than she did a few days ago, at least not as exhausted in appearance. Finding a bench to stand on to at least get some height over others she’ll do the usual tapping her staff loudly and clearing her throat to gather attention.]

Thank you all for coming and taking an interest in our cause. Our cause for defense for each other as we fight this battle from all sides on our own. Today we will be deciding our leaders. We have spent far longer than enough getting to know each other and who would be the best candidates for such a role. Now we must choose who.

First we will begin with choosing our nominees, they will each have a chance to give a speech, and by the end of the meeting a vote will be held deciding whether or not they are the right choice for their nominated title. They will each be also given a chance to nominate a Second who will act alongside them.

In the weeks to come those leading will create groups. The goal is that each group will hold a specialty and as a whole we will be able to form an effective defense. In battles they will fight together, in times of crises they will protect those in need, when things are amiss they will know who they can trust and others will know the same. And we will no longer be entirely on our own.

[She’ll give a pause and look at anyone watching before giving a short nod.]

There’s much to accomplish today and I won’t delay things further. We will begin with the nominations…

[OOC: NOMINATIONS are in. SO. We have three nominees; Anora, Edgeworth, and Elissa /o/. Each will have their own thread with the starting comment being their speech. The speeches will be improvised but they’ll be choosing their Second/Assistant/Minion? in the speech. After the speech characters can question them and corner them like small animals with interrogations from said nominees’ thread. Come mid-Jan there will be a vote in the OOC comm that is meant to be done ICly. The vote will be a simple yay or nay since we have so few nominees. If the majority are nays to one nominee then they lose. More on that later. But ICly time wise, the nominations are made at the start of this meeting and the voting is completed by the end of this meeting. The reason for the OOC time delay is for backtagging enjoyment. PM me if you have any questions. :)]

Blaine had planned on staying out of the limelight, too. Maybe tossing someone else into it, but we see how well that worked out. He chuckled and his eyes traced over the three people. "A Lawyer, a Queen, and a Commander. Very interesting indeed. I just need some snacks to make this more of a show than it already is."
vaudevil: (Don't you agree?)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-24 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This made the silver haired man laugh lightly. "I take that as a yes."

The three choices really didn't make Lee feel much better about what their fate would be since one of them was die hard police force supporter and official, the other he wasn't too sure about. Still, they were his allies.

"Who do you think will win this? I'm all out of popcorn and chocolate covered coffee beans."
strategic_guile: (These are not finger touches of evil)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-24 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"No idea. I'm more concerned with making sure we as a whole don't lose." The politicians can dance their jig and do their waltz. Blaine was more interested in keeping any damage to himself and Family at a minimum. "I do have to at least acknowledge the cajones on Her Majesty."
vaudevil: (How did this...?)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-24 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah." Now, that intrigued him. While he really didn't know much about the queen herself, the fact that she was pretty sure of herself and how she was going to help them out of their situation was interesting to say the least.

He shifted his weight slightly and mused for a moment. "It's not so much the intent of the cause that has created the existence of such a thing, I happen to agree that Fiona does have a certain" he twirled his wrist while he was thinking of the word, "light to her that could be of interest though a troublesome point at best. I believe she is a commander."

Then his thoughts turned to Edgeworth, "However, the attorney does make a valid point that there is a balance needed and since he has the backing of the Initiative in the creation of the police force, I worry that his own judgment could be clouded by antiquated ideals. I believe he is more prone to take the side of the Initiative than for our own interests, don't you think?"

While Miles is a friend to Lee, he felt it was best to gauge than to engage.
strategic_guile: (Shhh! Talking takes concentration!)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-24 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Blaine didn't have any experience with royalty, but he was well versed in recognizing confidence in others. It took a little longer to gauge if that confidence was based off of anything of worth. He saw a schemer in Anora and someone with good intentions in Fiona, but what that would amount to was up for debate. He had yet to talk to either of the women personally.

"The problem with the police and lawyers is they get there after the fact. This is for defense, but here's to hoping it won't just be another reactionary force. We have enough of those as it is." Blaine waved a hand vaguely. "We do need balance, and maybe he could serve better as a go-between for us, the police, and the Initiative. At the very least he should be good at arguing a point and being persuasive, as long as it's for our needs. But who can really tell, if he has his hands in so many different pots."
vaudevil: (How dreadful.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-24 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing that stopped Lee from getting involved in this nomination was the fact that he was needed in the shadows and his scientific work could get him in the door should they need it. He knew there was a lot more to this than just listening to a bunch of people talk about issues. Facts and figures often came into play even if the politics was small for the time being.

He listened to Blaine and turned his head to regard the speaker. Silver eyes locked on and he gave his undivided attention. "Hm, I worry now if he has stretched himself too thin. While I commend his efforts in trying to keep the peace among us, perhaps with this he could thin down some of his obligations. It would be a wise investment of his time to do so."
strategic_guile: (There's that chip on my shoulder again)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-24 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
There wouldn't be any scientific experimentation for Blaine, but being brought up didn't displease him. He liked to be at the center of it all. He liked being in control and directing activities. Elissa didn't make a mistake in choosing him as long as she could control him. That was going to be fun. The wriggling around to see how much leeway she gave. He was not the type of obedient follower who didn't test the boundaries and toe all the lines with glee.

Silver eyes met blue and Blaine wasn't discomforted or fidgety about the direct eye contact, even if the eyes were an unusual color. If anything now he got to stare with purpose. "He doesn't seem the type who would relinquish his responsibilities to another, though he should be good at delegating. Assuming he has people he trusts with the task and his reputation."
vaudevil: (I know something you don't.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-24 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Lee didn't back away or fidget. The best way to garner attention was through eye contact and he gave it sparingly unless he wanted to know more be it social or otherwise. His grin grew. "He does."

Lee wasn't too sure about the choice of Mile's second though she was trusted implicitly so that said a lot about her character. "Perhaps there is something to be said about having two attorneys on the floor. At least now they can find the truth and together, they might do just that."

He was more of a background person now and he didn't mind it. It was like being back home. If he wanted the spotlight on him, he would take it willingly, otherwise, he would remain obfuscated.
strategic_guile: (Softly smiling~!)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-24 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a smile curling the corner of Blaine's lips at both the stare down and the words. "The truth as they perceive it, anyway. Truth and absolutes are for math and formulas. Lawyers deal with verbal slight of hand," and he has to smile outright. That's what his own dealings with lawyers amounted to. Slight of hand that kept him free and out of prison.
vaudevil: (Calmly)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
A laugh rang from Lee. He couldn't deny that he needed a verbal slight of hand once in a while and he too used that tactic more than once to gain the upper hand in both his business and in public. Of course there was no way to prove otherwise, he certainly like the way Blaine thought.

"I am inclined to agree." How could he refuse otherwise?

"Still, you must admit, it would be most beneficial for all of us if they kept the ruse long enough to play the game until the end. Let's see how well they can keep up with the growing number of Transports that refuse authority." It was almost a sadistic thought but an amusing one at that.
strategic_guile: (Funny like a hole in my head 8D)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-24 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The only people who didn't agree were lawyers -bad for business to admit that- and those who hadn't ever needed a lawyer to bail them out of deep shit. Blaine was the one who had to laugh next, a quick bark as he shook his head. "That's cruel to say. It would eventually drive them up the wall, I'm sure. The amount of people who don't even know the word lawyer is amazingly large."
vaudevil: (No really. It was nothing.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-25 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Lee chuckled softly. While it was true that what he said was a bit cruel and perhaps even twisted, he smirked in conjunction with his response.

"Perhaps. Still, one must think about the consequences should they arise and despite an attorney's shortcomings, they are useful. Ah, then there is the question of adjustment. Do you realize how many people panic on the network upon arrival? It's almost enough to make me turn the thing off. We don't exactly have a welcoming committee other than what the Initiative provides."
strategic_guile: (These are not finger touches of evil)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-25 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"True enough. If he can convince this second of his to take on the challenge, I'm not against letting him try." He lifted an eyebrow at Lee and loosed amused at his irritation. "Of course I see. Do you really want to make a committee and rob us of the joys of seeing people scramble around in confusion?"
vaudevil: (Oh well. At least I tried.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-25 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Lee gave an incredulous expression marked with a touch of sarcasm in his tone. "Now, why would I do a thing like that? There is no fun in stability." He smirked before he turned his attention back to the growing crowd.

"It would make for an interesting topic though. How exactly would something like that run? It wouldn't be too successful judging from the mass hysteria within upon arrival." He lifted his finger to his chin as if in mock innocence.
strategic_guile: (Pushing the wall; Just my lips)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-25 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, if you really wanted to be serious about it," he drawled, "you would get the Initiative to allow a Transport to go with them and explain things during their first speech of a million facts. Maybe have a class to teach people about the tablets. What's safe to eat. Who wouldn't mind sharing a bed~" Looking totally innocent while he says that, too. Nothing at all amiss here.
vaudevil: (Let's see what you got.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-27 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Lee wasn't about to take on that task. He would put the bug in someone's ear a later time. Something like that was just too much work by the sound of it alone.

His smirk grew and turned his head slightly in a playful tone. "Why, Blaine, you are such a forward thinker. Such lists would take time to compile, yes? Although a worthy endeavor, I wouldn't mind taking up the challenge on the last subject on your list. Ah, but alas, I'm a bit lazy with such things."

It was hard to tell if he was playing with the idea or not but the assumptions no matter the outcome would be welcome.
strategic_guile: (A soft and gentle breeze)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-27 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Blaine gave his own smirk at that, lifting his hands. "That's me, always thinking ahead. With so much time on my hands, I've certainly got the energy for that last item. Perhaps I could energize you a bit?" Assuming Elissa didn't have him running around. Of course, also assuming he'd let her run him around.
vaudevil: (Hm no.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-27 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
He lifted his finger and placed it over his lips in feigned innocence even though it was a play at acting shy when that wasn't the case at all. He then looked to Blaine's raised hands then back to Blaine's face.

"Oh, now I'm the opposite. Although, I can make the time for someone worth my time." In all honesty, Lee could care less about what's going on as long as his friends and those he cared about weren't hurt in his lack of interest which was only on the surface.

His smirk stayed. "I'm sure you could." He eyed Blaine's tall body up and down and he certainly liked them strong. Male or female.
strategic_guile: (Because my eyebrow says so!)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-27 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
That feigned shyness only made the more devilish side of Blaine's smirk come out in a brief flash. He'd certainly make it worth Lee's time, and his chin lifted a bit. He knew what he looked like and he was a catch. There was no arguing that. He didn't visibly size up the other man, but there was a knowing glint in his eye. "I'll be glad to prove it," he purred. He lifted an enticing eyebrow. "How about we arrange dinner? Unfortunately, I can't just slip away from this party today."
vaudevil: (Ooh.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-27 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Lee pouted for a brief moment even if it was a playful one. "Aww, how disappointing." He was hoping for a quick encounter but the offer came that changed his mindset to a better one. After all, he was a patient man.

Now, the dinner invitation was certainly welcome even if they couldn't abscond to a different location. Lee understood it clearly and gave a nod to his head. "Mm, that is an acceptable offer. I prefer to know my potentials first. A splendid idea."

There was time for that later anyway and he certainly wouldn't mind the wait. It would just make the encounter just that much more enticing. "As I said, I'll make the time, you name the place and the date."
strategic_guile: (I feel a little relieved)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-27 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
There was a put upon sigh from Blaine as he gestured towards the nominees. "Yes, so very disappointing, but there are my obligations. We'll see how if it's a permanent one or not."

He's not sure if he truly wants the responsibility or not, but he'd accept whatever came of it. Until then though, "Next Thursday would be good. Around 6 o'clock. I'm in apartment 207."
vaudevil: (Yes that's an option.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-27 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm currently residing in nine-oh-four. I hardly see my roommates anymore. I've been working on projects that I rarely have the time to speak with them." In retrospect, Lee did need to speak with Margulis about a few matters of details but he needed to make sure that he had his bases covered first.

At the mention of the appointment, he looked to Blaine with a smile. "Excellent. I'll be there." He wasn't going to forget it since now that's the first real date he had to work with since he arrived.
strategic_guile: (Yeah; and so he was like...)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-28 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll keep that number in mind, and I'll definitely be expecting you," a sly grin, then, "What kind of projects are those?" Color him curious. He wasn't sure what to expect from the other man as far as a 'project' was concerned. He seemed intelligent enough, but what profession he was in he couldn't much tell.
vaudevil: (I know something you don't.)

[personal profile] vaudevil 2012-12-28 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, one is a cannon, the other is an arm to handle biological specimens. It would be interesting to see just how long it would take to finish both but I must dedicate my time to one or the other." He sighed and played into the innuendo some.

"Alas, I am only one man and I do believe in giving my all to one demanding mistress at a time." He chuckled playfully. "My work is hardly done but then I would be rather bored if I had nothing that demanded my personal and undivided attention."
strategic_guile: (Because my eyebrow says so!)

[personal profile] strategic_guile 2012-12-28 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I was all for 'cannon' until you mentioned biological specimens. then I got distracted," Blaine said, laughing a bit. No point denying his one-track mind. He'd already arranged a dinner date. "This arm for biological specimens wouldn't just-so-happen to be your own, would it?" Yep, he sure did say it. Not like it wasn't hinted at.
