[Open] Underground Meetings Literally Underground
Date & Time: WAY BACKDATED to February 15th with Morning / Afternoon / Evening options
Location: The catacombs which look cool if you forgot (cool is important)
Characters: Kido, Kano and anyone who wants to stop by for a gang meeting! You're free to assume your character was spoken to if you want, too. Handwaving the recruiting is cool with us. Or your character can just happen across them?? Whatever works!
Summary: Kido and Kano have been recruiting for their gang, the Mekakushi Dan, and now is the meeting. Feel free to mingle! Become a gang family.
NOTE! They would also inform characters to stick around for the evening meeting if they want to hear something more serious.
Warnings: Uhmmm none that I can think of!
Morning Option:
[The morning is the most relaxed. Kido and Kano have a lot of work to do when it comes to cleaning up the catacombs! Of course, they had to pick a larger area not too far in, away from the sewer areas so it isn't as damp and gross. It's still cold, though. They put up arrows so no one would get lost even though it doesn't take much to find the area.
There aren't chairs or anything like that to sit in but bricks and old rocks are being cleaned up to make sitting space. Also, there's soda and various snacks sitting on a particularly large rock.
Come help if you want and possibly get some early information out of them!]
Afternoon Option:
[After running around, chatting with all the newcomers Kano's decided to speak up. Now's an excellent time to get down to business! He's hopped onto one of the rocks to elevate himself (being short is hard) and shouts:]
Hey, hey! [He waves his hand rapidly in the air.] Ah, first--thanks for coming, everyone! We wouldn't have known what to do with all these snacks if you guys didn't show up.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding! But really, we appreciate your interest. Let me explain what we plan to do!
When most of us arrived we were a little overwhelmed. I knew I was. Being dropped into another world is a pretty heavy experience, right? Some of us weren't sure where to go or who to turn to! It's a very disheartening way to begin a new life. [Kano snaps his fingers.] So! We, the Mekakushi Dan, will help those new transports!
Whether it's through food or clothes or even umbrellas, we'll lend them a helping hand and show them that we care. We'll be the welcoming committee that Exsilium doesn't have, the newbies' unofficial family! With your help, we'll help them settle in and ease into their lives here.
We're open to ideas, so if you have any... feel free to shout them out!
Evening Option:
[By the time things wind down and it's getting dark, Kido steps up. She's perfectly at ease with this part of things. When she speaks, it's in her usual gruff but serious tone.]
...I don't know how much you guys know about the Initiative but they aren't praiseworthy. It's a war, so no one is clean, but they haven't treated us the best. It isn't just this. I've been looking into the network and past posts. I'm not going to tell you what to think or how to act towards them, though.
[She shoves her hands into her hoodie pocket.] What I'm saying is that I'm putting us first. We need to keep an eye on anyone that might threaten us, that might use us or hurt us. So, if you want to help with that or you're interested in looking closer at these Initiative people and the ones they're fighting, we'd appreciate the help.
It's your call. If you only want to be part of the community help, that's fine. But you know at least what Kano and I are going to be doing. We'll keep you updated if you want, too. We're going to keep you guys safe as best as we can from anything.

Shoot. Kariya's stopped and the bugs have left. His cover's blown.
Rubbing his face, Kano decides to drop his illusions. He might as well switch to a direct approach now. Feign innocence.]
Hey! Kariya, right?
no subject
And you're Kano. Sorry about that.
[Perhaps he shouldn't reveal himself so readily, but Kariya prefers the direct and fairer approach when push comes to shove. He's also glad to see the boy wasn't hurt -- Blade Wing Worms aren't exactly safe projectiles.]
no subject
The bug? It's fine, it's fine. I wasn't paying close attention to where I was going, anyway.
[Not really. He'd been interested to see if Kariya would try any magic deeper in the caves--but aside from seeing him command the swarms of bugs, it didn't seem like he'd get a peek at some more. That's fine. There's always a next time.]
Say, are you exploring as well?
no subject
[Kariya doesn't actually have room to talk, since he's the one with the horrendous murderbugs slapping people in the face, but there isn't a great deal of force behind the suggestion, anyway.
With a thought, he reduces the number of Blade Wing Worms -- they can continue to explore the area, but not so noticeably, and hopefully without further incidents. It reduces the burden on him, too, though overall the backlash is surprisingly manageable.]
... I am exploring a little. I didn't want to distract you guys from your meeting too much.
no subject
[Though, judging by his insect magic, Kariya seemed to be doing just fine. Probably better than Kano, anyway. He hasn't been to this part of the catacombs before. He hops up next to the man, grinning.] That's why it's better to go with a partner, yup!
no subject
[What he has probably won't be the best map, because his memory isn't the best. The perks of being
wormbittenold; perhaps one of these days he'll figure out a way to sit down and record in the tunnels -- but he also doesn't want to draw too much attention. This is already more than he wanted, but he has a feeling Kano will be hard to shake off. A hesitation, then--]
I don't know, I'm a pretty boring person to adventure with.
[Wouldn't you rather go with one of the other members...]
no subject
Ha ha ha! You don't have to be so humble! You're a wizard, right? Wizards make the best traveling companions.
So! Which way are we going?
no subject
[It's said lightly as Kariya relents, capitulating without further fuss -- time will tell if Kano gets bored and wanders off or if his attention span stays with Kariya's aimless little adventure for some reason. He finds that he doesn't really mind the company, either.
Maybe he's gotten too used to only the company of the Worms underground, after all this time.
...
KARIYA has joined your party!]
--That way leads downward. [He points to the right, then:] And that way the path narrows. There shouldn't be any threats.
no subject
[He plans on sticking around until Kido calls him or until they come across something interesting--either way, the trip's good for getting to know the man better. He peers at the paths.]
Hmm... downwards seems like a fun choice. Let's go with that.
no subject
[If there was such a thing as a magic license, he'd have a forged copy. From China.
> Take the downward path.
The way is fairly smooth, though a little twisty -- there are small, strange dark alcoves on the walls, and glistening trails of something you probably won't want to get too close to, but that's it for the terribly atmospheric things.
The ground is rough, though -- at some point it's changed to cobblestone, of all things. Watch your step!]
Be careful -- it's slippery here. [He's a little unsteady on his feet, picking his way very carefully, but perhaps strangely he doesn't put out a hand to support himself on the wall at all.]
no subject
Geez, this place gets worse the deeper we go. [If they found anything interesting down here, that'd double as good and as a pain. He definitely doesn't want to clean this place up. He watches Kariya as they make their way, just in case the guy slips or falls. He looked sickly enough to do that abruptly...]
Are you still learning magic, then? Like, say... an apprentice? [He's still prodding at that question, yes.]
no subject
[There might be a very faint hint of irony to the advice. Kariya does have to stop to cough a few times, the burden of the Blade Wing Worms making him even shorter of breath than usual, but he does make his way ahead in the relative darkness with shaky confidence.
... It is actually pretty dark here -- whatever light there was coming from the meeting place has faded quickly, so hopefully your eyes adjust well to the underground--]
I'm... [What 'apprenticeship' he'd been allowed had already ended.] I'm not really a proper magus. I never went to school or anything.
[He doesn't mind answering the more mundane questions -- he's already told them some of this. It's natural for them to be curious about his powers, especially if they're still trying to understand their own.]
no subject
Aha! So you're self-taught, huh? How admirable. That must've been tough. I've always considered those who taught themselves as the best at what they do! [His voice is absorbed by the shadows. His eyes are beginning to adjust, allowing him to see the outline of Kariya ahead of him.] Proper magus or no, you must have some impressive rabbits to pull out of your hat, I bet~
no subject
[The irony in his tone is a little stronger this time, but he offers no further information. (If his magic had consisted solely of pulling rabbits out of hats, he would have counted himself very lucky indeed.)
He can hear Kano struggling a little behind him with perfect clarity -- he's spent enough time in the darkness himself to know.]
--Give me a moment.
[He pauses, makes sure he has a good foothold, and then seemingly nothing happens for a long moment -- eventually, though, there's a soft buzzing noise as two Blade Wing Worms glide into view; visible by virtue of their multiple bright eyes.
Hey, look. Spelunking bugs.]
Is that better?
no subject
Kano jumps a little when the bugs appear--though he won't show it, the bugs bother him. They're freakishly big and he doesn't feel comfortable at all with them hovering behind him, even though he knows that they won't do any harm. He shoves his hands in his pockets as he steps down, feigning nonchalance. Bugs what bugs he doesn't see 'em at all, nope no sir not at all.]
Yup! Ha ha, you have a bug for everything, don't you? Where do you keep all of them?
no subject
They're summoned.
[Nope, you don't need to know about where they come from or where they go. Or anything, really.]
Which way? They should all be safe.
[You've come to another fork in the road! Looks like you have three options this time: down, down, and down. Also, dark, darker, and darkest.
They should all be safe, at least for a large swarm of angry cannibal wasps.
Oh, remember that glistening on the walls? It's getting thicker.]
