Summary: Asuka kicks a ~~football~~ soccer ball around for no particular reason.
Warnings: None (yet).

Ever since her conversation with Utena about sports and possibly starting something it had been hovering at the forefront of her mind. Then it had turned from a random idea into a reality after she'd discovered a somewhat battered soccer ball in one of the stores in the market. Sure, it had cost a bit, but it was worth it - it gave her something to do. Even indoors. And surely the Initiative wouldn't complain too much about her using the open space for something physical, right?

Besides, if they did, Asuka wasn't going to listen anyway.

She bounced the ball off of the floor idly. The room was mostly empty right now, so it seemed as good a time as any to give this a shot. She dribbled the ball across the room, then back and gave it a little chip with her toes, sending the ball spinning into the air. She ducked under it and gave it a bump with her head. She'd intended to send it up again, but it knocked off at an awkward angle.

"Hey! Heads up!"

A football! Just the thing he's been thinking about lately. Cedric spun on one leg and kicked high, trying to hit it. He did---with an awkward side of his foot---and it spun off against the wall. The motion left him wobbling on one leg to find his balance again. It was so awkward he could almost laugh, and his mouth twitched that way.

"You know, I thought footballs were meant to be kicked. With your feet."

"Come on, haven't you ever watched any matches?" Asuka retorted as she hurried over to cut the ball off before it could careen into someone else. She doesn't know Cedric by sight, but anyone else who's willing to enjoy kicking the ball around is alright be her. Well, at least for now, anyway.

"They use their heads all the time!"

"Well, no. They're on the telly, aren't they? I never had one at home."

Cedric watched the ball curiously. He'd like to try some of these things for himself, definitely.

"But they mostly use their feet, right?"

"You didn't have a television? Man, how did you survive early childhood?"

Truthfully, TV and throwing herself into her studies and training are what kept her sane. She laughs and juggles the ball a bit from knee to knee.

"Well, mostly. But they use their head and you can trap it with the chest, too! Didn't you ever see a live match, at least?"

"My toy broom kept me busy most hours of the day. When you can fly, why watch a game elsewhere?"

Cedric laughed at himself, still looking eager to play with the football. He hasn't had much of a chance to spend time with one before.

"No, I haven't. I've only read about it in books. Is there anything you can show me?"

"Toy broom...?" Asuka blinked at Cedric. Flying? That sounded like something of a story. Then again, considering where she'd ended up....

"I thought only witches rode brooms," she snorted. After a moment's thought, she gave the ball a kick, sending it back toward Cedric.

Cedric sidesteps, just barely making it over to kick the ball back in time. It approaches the woman's general direction, which is more than can be said for his last kick.

"Wizard," he corrects. "Witches are women."

Asuka sighs to herself and jogs out of her way to cut the ball off. Then she gives Cedric a very odd look, "I thought broom-riding was just a wtich thing. Don't wizards usally just... I don't know, teleport or something?"

"No. Where I come from, witches and wizards are the same except for what we're called." Cedric grins and bounces on the balls of his feet. "We can learn to Apparate, yes, but I've never had the chance to. Learning to fly is easier."

"Huh," Asuka mutters, "And you guys don't have wizard football or something?"

She sends the ball back to him with a tap from her foot. It's mostly on target.

"...sort of, except we don't really use our feet too much. It's called Quidditch. We fly on brooms and handle the balls and bats with one hand. It's mostly Keepers who use their feet."

He jogs over to the ball and kicks it back.

"...sounds like it's entertaining to watch, at least," Asuka allows, "Kinda dangerous if you're flying around."

She scoots to one side to get the ball again, "But somehow you don't know anything about football! Do you guys just not know about normal stuff or something?"

"The danger's part of the fun," Cedric insists stubbornly.

He glances up and down the 'court, shrugging. "I know the basics. Teams kick the ball up and down the field trying to get it past the opponent's goalkeeper. But I don't know about specific positions or rules. And...no, no one where I'm from really plays it."

"Lame. It's such an acessible game, too. You don't even need magic brooms or whatever to play it," Asuka traps the ball with a foot and rolls it underneath the toe of her shoe, "YOu just need some goal markers and a ball."

"Then I should be able to pick it up quickly, right?" Cedric asks, trying to imagine the course of gameplay in his head.

"And yes, there's a lot wizards don't know, I'm still learning."

"Well, it's easy to learn, difficult to master. Or that's what I've heard anyway..."

Everything comes fairly easily to Asuka. At least if she puts her mind to it.

"There's a bunch of different positions, but you usually have anywhere between six and ten players, plus one more in goal - that's the goalkeeper. The players on the field can only use their feet, bodies and heads - no arms or hands. The keeper can handle the ball."

"That doesn't sound hard," Cedric agreed, looking excited. He could handle this. "So do you want to find teams sometime?"
