look how those funky monkeys talk & walk in store
Date & Time: Backdated to April 21st!
Location: From the apartments to around city.
Characters: Toji Suzuhara and Shinji Ikari
Summary: For once two Evangelion characters get together and there are no tears. Only two boys being dumb friends.
Warnings: Toji.
[As he said he would, Shinji waits at the stairs of the apartment for Toji, an umbrella in hand. Ever since he returned from his fruitless trip outside the city, he's deflated back to the state he'd been upon his initial arrival--locked inside his room with little to no contact with the outside world. He whiled away the hours in a dark apathy, listening to nothing but his SDAT and, when that ran out of power, he simply set it aside.
Truth be told, Toji's call had perked him up a little from his wallowing self-pity. He hadn't talked to his friend in weeks since he arrived... or anyone new, honestly. But the recent disappearances of some of his friends and what had happened recently...
He needed someone to connect to.
So he waited out in the rain, checking his watch every now and then.]

He gave a quick look around for that one familiar face, and lo and behold someone up there must be on Toji's side today, because there was his friend, still standing around waiting for him, umbrella in hand.]
Hey, Ikari!
[He waved and trotted up to his friend, beaming like the sweaty idiot he was. It was nice to see a friend. To see someone normal.]

You're late. [There's only a hint of disapproval and exasperation in that chide, though. He shifts the umbrella up, so it can cover for both of them.]

[He scratches as his head bashfully, looking vaguely embarrassed about making Shinji wait for all of ten seconds before reverting back to his irrepressible self, clapping his friend on the back.]
But you're still here so it's fine, right? [A cheeky grin.] So what kind of food are you up for, Ikari? I was thinkin' here's this sort of cafe a few blocks down that way, really good sandwiches, and a really pretty waitress, too.

But that's fine by me.

There it is, that one. You ever been here before, Ikari? I promise you ain't gonna be disappointed, this place is great.
[Toji marches through the door and picks a table near the window, leaving Shinji to deal with the soggy umbrella.]

What sort of food do you usually order?

[He flips through the menu quickly, then sets it down with a decisive air.]
Yep, I'm havin' the beef.
and the award for the slowest tagger goes to...
[He puts his down as well.] ... how have you been doing?
[It's a question he should've asked Toji the moment he arrived, instead of dodging around the entire month or so. He feels a little guilty about it, but at least they're talking now...]
idk man i think it might be a tie
How do you think? This place is great! It's practically a nag-free zone, if only Soryu weren't here it'd be the perfect paradise.
[He laughs.]
All things considered it ain't as bad as it could be.
[After all, he has legs here. Both of them. That alone has to count as a bonus of some sort.]
no subject
Is it really that great? It rains all the time...
[He shakes his head, trying to chase away his negative thoughts. He's spent days locked inside chewing them over. He needed a break from them.]
Mm. It's almost... normal. [No school, no NERV, nothing of that sort aside from the mandatory training sessions. It's given him too much time to think.] This city would be a decent place to live in.

You gotta be more positive. What we have here is a pretty good livin' situation, and we gotta appreciate that to it's fullest.
[His impromptu motivational speech is cut short however by a woman who appears to be a waitress exiting the kitchen with another customer's order. He slaps Shinji on the shoulder and hisses 'look!', gaping at the waitress as he does so.
It then occurs to Toji that maybe this isn't exactly playing it cool, so he jerks his gaze away suddenly, thwacking Shinji again.]
No, don't look! Look at me! Don't get caught starin' or you'll ruin my game!
no subject
He's shaken out of his thoughts with that slap. Startled, he looks at where Toji's looking, but he's smacked on the back again, causing him to hunch and duck his head. He glances back at the waitress.]
Do you mean her? I think she saw us already...
