(no subject)

Date & Time: May 9th, lunchtime/afternoon.
Location: Apartment 705.
Characters: Kagura, Jake Martinez, and Kriem.
Summary: Settling into their new apartment, Jake and Kriem come across their new roommate.
Warnings: TBA.

[Her first night in the new apartment had been interesting. The flickering lights had been something she'd passed off as poor electrical work, but it was the odd bumping in the night that had left the NEXT so unsure about that. Jake hadn't felt anyone else there with them, and Kriem had shrugged it off and gotten on with her work.

She'd spent the morning setting things up. The living area already had the sewing machine set up, along with the assortment of materials ready to be handled. Kriem was in the kitchen though. Jake hadn't allowed her to help out much. Her body was still recovering after a year of inactivity, but she hated sitting around doing nothing. So while she couldn't help Jake with moving into their new place, Kriem did use this time instead to try her hand at making some miso soup for their lunch.

Humming, the smell of the soup began to fill the apartment. She leaned over, still stirring the contents while making sure that the heat remained low so she didn't accidentally boil the soup. It looked ready!

Kriem pulled open the doors to the surrounding cabinets until she found the ones with the bowls. Slipping them onto the counter, she pulled the ladle out of the drawer so she could begin serving their lunch.]

Kagura actually hadn't been there all day. She'd been working at her house until recently, and seeing as there was no heating or way to cook yet, she would have to wait out at the apartments. Ugh. She was honestly okay with not having to deal with people for the rest of her life, but the demon knew she'd have to if she wanted to make her own food. Waiting for her room mates to go to sleep or leave would also be an option, but that took patience that Kagura would never have.

Kagura stepped into the apartment simply, heading straight for the kitchen. If she seemed to be on a mission, they'd likely leave her alone. Her face wasn't smiling, only serious and fixed on getting to the kitchen. Suddenly overwhelmed by the smell of something delicious, Kagura looked up to see what it was. Not even asking if she could have any, she went to the fridge, looking for something else to eat as if neither of them--or the food--existed.]

Jake hadn't been so sure of this whole living situation, since he had liked the higher floor. It was easier to ignore people above and below and beside if they just plain weren't there, which was more likely on the top floors. However, he had let Kriem have her way and set up her sewing equipment, feeling every bit the mule she used him for. It was better than the sorry sight of her panting, sweating and making an idiot of herself.

He tipped his head at the sudden sound of the door opening and closing, which probably went right along with the other strange noises. However, there was a third presence in the apartment, which probably meant the roommate. It was moving in Kriem's direction. Snorting, he rose from the bed and headed to the kitchen to make certain no cat-fighting was about to take place.

"Oi, Kriem, whatcha cookin'?" He eyed the other woman before easing his way to Kriem's direction, peering over her shoulder at the simmering soup. "Hmpt, always looks like shit."

Kagura had blinked at the woman--she was a woman, that much was obvious--as she'd never seen a woman whose hair was short, much less bald. But such didn't really matter to her, as she had no reason to think it was anything but unfortunate. The food on the stove looked much more appetizing than the things in the fridge--but of course Kagura wouldn't have asked. To do so was to establish a connection, try to make friends. That was not why she was there. Survival was her main task; these two were merely any annoyance.

She noticed two auras, similar in nature yet slightly different from her own. She had been roomed with other demons, it seemed, although they looked more human than her, as their ears were human and eyes normal. Looking both over with disdain as they squabbled, she figured that she had no reason to really acquaintance herself with either, and both seemed to have the same motive. She thought that was the best, but when she was finally addressed between the two, she barely gave them a glance.

"I'll be gone soon enough."

wow, help if i tracked this :S

Ah well, he supposed he wouldn't have asked either, given how Kriem was more than willing to share with him. There must have been a whole lot of pride to prevent someone from asking for something that they clearly wanted, but he said nothing about it. This was the first time he had encountered the new 'roomie', and he found her attitude hilarious though he didn't bother to yet laugh out loud.

Oh, so demons were based on appearance as much as other aspects of themselves? That was kind of interesting. Poor Kriem with her complete lack of hair much look decidedly not-demonic.

"Yeah, kitchen door is right there, so that much is obvious," he replied with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

She ran into many demons in her day, and most of the time, only half-demons looked as they did. And, they stuck of human, too....perhaps it was their day of weakness, although she couldn't understand why they'd be so cheerful. Eyeing both suspiciously, she looked down at the soup and then back again. Giving nothing but a roll of the eyes to the retort, Kagura started to chat with the girl. Out of the two, she seemed to be second-hand, but also seemed to be kinder. Which, of course, would end out better for Kagura than butting heads with the brute.

"Thank you." the words were short, almost begrudging. Someone wasn't used to the phrase yet.

Oh roomie, you can't move away. This bitching is fabulous

Jake eyed the other woman for a long moment before he decided that it was safe enough to include her in their little meal festivities. There was too much for them both anyway, and miso was not really as good the next day. So, he shrugged his shoulders and moved off to get another bowl, handing it to Kriem was he leaned against the counter.

"What kind of world do you come from?" He had to ask because apparently they all came from different worlds. Her mind was different so maybe that was true. Maybe people far beyond Sternbild were just weirdos.

Kagura decided that standing was the better option here, and took the bowl of soup. She's never used a spoon before, and honestly, when she saw soup, her thought was to drink it, and thus she did. he took a sip, before looking sharply at the man.

"Ones where demons exist without all this...technology." she spit out the words, not really wanting to converse any more than she had to.

Jake took the bowl when it was full of soup for him, but he remained standing as well as he took a sip of his own. Hmm, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't Kriem's greatest work either when it came with miso. He suspected the ingredients just plain sucked in this world. "Not bad for a first try, Kriem."

He raised an eyebrow at the mention of demons, but she was clearly speaking the truth. "So what do demons do with their time then? You don't seem like the flower weaving sort."

"We do whatever we want. Many kill to look for the Shikon jewel, or lay dormant. Others pretend they are gods, others are lords." she stated, simply. The soup wasn't bad at all, for what Kagura was used to, but she never voiced her thanks. It was just how she was.

[personal profile] ex_b_a_n_g251 2013-05-16 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
She almost seemed to be talking nonsense, but he listened anyway, having no idea what a Shikon jewel was. She wasn't thinking hard enough about it to get a sense of what it actually was. That seemed kind of interesting that it was all pretend.

"So... if you're that strong, why pretend? Why not become gods or real lords to rule over people weaker than you?" Perhaps interacting with non-demons was as entertaining as when he typically interacted with normal people who weren't part of Ouroboros.

"Because demons are not gods, and there are lords that have been lords for hundreds of years because they are so powerful. Anyone who tries to threaten that would be killed." she stated, thinking about Sesshomaru. He was very strong, indeed, and his family had been in power for a very long time. "But they can often get away with being lords of towns if no one finds out they're demons. Otherwise, they'd be purified or killed."

[personal profile] ex_b_a_n_g251 2013-05-24 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well look at that, he was learning something new about demon society. Really, he had no idea they were so complex. He was thinking the whole killing, torturing and burning part would be all that they did in their lives, but apparently they acted like the rest of them half the time anyway. "Huh, how boring. No challenge in living by the status quo."

sorry for the lateness!

"No, by other demons. Demons generally fight each other over land and food. Being too outgoing will either get you absorbed by other demons for power or attract someone that can purify you."' she says this all roughly, as though she's experienced before. "Humans leave you alone unless they can fight back, and once they can? You're screwed."
