Mission: Bad Science Saves the Day
Date & Time: Mid-Day, 3310 | Present Day June 14th-16th
Location: Andersfeld, in the (far former) state of Alaska. (Also known at one time as Anchorage, Alaska.) | Back in Exsilium, those manning the Transport Pads, or working on developing the antibiotics and administering them to the ill throughout the city. Yet others will need to hop-scotch through time gathering sufficient supplies to save lives.
Characters: Volunteers to alter medical research, people working on antiobiotic cures, people distributing appropriate cures, and those who are doing minor missions into the past to retrieve adequate supplies to treat the sick in the present.
Summary: Transports are asked to help save tens of thousands of lives, first by traveling two years into the past and altering scientific research. Second, by helping with the manufacture and development of antibiotics or other cures, once the mission is complete. Third, by distributing the cure to the affected parties. Fourth, by going on pointed supply missions solo, or with up to two other people, in order to get enough supplies to save people in the present.
Whatever your character decides to do, the weight of saving lives is on their shoulders, unasked, and perhaps unwelcome. What will they do when faced with this decision?
Warnings: Illness. Freezing cold. Possible death. Drunken scientists.
In Andersfeld, the snow falls in thick, fat flakes, winds blowing in gusts up to 60 kph. Everyone is bundled up against the weather. Spirits are generally low, if not outright alcoholic. Safety lines and lights guide those brave enough to venture outdoors from building to building.
For the Transports with a six hour window to alter a future that will kill over a hundred thousand people in three weeks, it's a dangerous and necessary bravery.
In Exsilium, the success of the mission to Andersfeld is felt as soon as scientists notice the virus responding to antibiotic treatments. It becomes a race to finding the most effective means of combating the now bacterial infection, and of mass producing any working cure for distribution.
Some help with the production.
Others hurry to cart the supply out to the places hit most heavily. Yet others work directly with administering the antibiotics, in most cases, via an IV line. Those less heavily affected will be granted ridiculously large antibiotic pills, needing to be coaxed down spasming throats.
Those who need action, or who are no good with the sick, are asked to make countless small trips through time to secure the supplies needed to produce enough of the cure to save the tens of thousands who are ill but not yet deceased.
And for those too ill to assist, now is the time to rest, heal, and get better. In a world like this, one never knows what surprise might next lie in wait. The Transports and the Initiative have thwarted total disaster for now.
Mostly.

Celena gives an almost imperceptible nod and a mental affirmative as they approached the checkpoint. Drawing herself up to look clearly unimpressed as she approached the checkpoint, her ID ready. Reaching into the guards minds for information even as she spoke.
"We're here collect samples and data for comparisons, Janis from Lab 3 sent us. Leaving us to trudge through that blasted snow, it's getting bad out there,"
Even as she spoke she reached further into their minds placing recollections of just such a call, patchy due to the weather that said that the two would be coming. The two guards looking to each other before they opened the door without argument.
"I don't envy you, head on through,"
no subject
I think we can get around the password requirement---there's always a backdoor to these things.
He flexes his fingers, then starts working. Anyone coming?
no subject
We shouldn't be interrupted for the immediate future, there is a group running data a few rooms over, and another performing minor tests that will take some time.
She approached one of the other terminals, getting out the usb she had been given. Getting the terminal ready for when Billy was able to find the backdoor into the system.
no subject
Hurry. They're probably catching on, we need to be out of here ASAP.
no subject
Upload nearly there...and complete. Agreed, they expect us to have data and samples, so perhaps taking something with us would not be unwarranted however.
She nodded in the direction of the checkpoint, giving a quick scan of the room for anything that could easily fool a guard or be of use.
no subject
This might work. The casserole's rotted just enough that it can pass for a nice bed for bacteria.
no subject
It certainly looks the part, this should complete the look. I do not believe the guards will know any better.
no subject
Billy packaged their sample appropriately and shut the computers down, leaving at her side with a thin smile for the guards. "It's a promising sample. The results will be spectacular, I'm sure."
All the while, he had his fingers crossed for a smooth exit.
no subject
With that she led them down the corridor and out toward the exit. A smooth exit would be nice for once. It did look however like there was more activity in the general area as they made their way along.
no subject
What are they thinking?
no subject
They're slightly curious as to why there would be a transfer during the storm, at the same time they certainly don't envy us for heading that way or carrying such a sample. Seems they'd rather stay warm.
As long as we pass the guards we should be in the clear.
no subject
Billy kept his gaze forward and moved without delay, trying to create the impression that this was an urgent errand instead of the impression that he was a no-good sneak. If he acted like he owned the place...well, maybe he could.
He tried not to look at Celena again. That was probably suspicious.
no subject
Drawing out her ID once more, Celena stepped forward, gesturing to the crate Billy carried, "Sample transfer to Lab 3, Janis was rather insistent,"
The guard in question frowned a moment before motioning them through, "Be careful out there, storms only getting worse from what I hear,"
"We shall, believe me, the sooner we're out their the sooner we get back,"
With a shake of her head she brushed past the guards, not looking back until they were out of the guards sight.
We should be clear from here on out.
no subject
What I wouldn't give to just teleport away.
no subject
Celena chuckled softly at that, shaking her head and pushed out into the snow. Shifting her sight to see through the snow. Once she was sure that they were out of sight of the lab and on their way back Celena summoned up a small field almost like a bubble around them, to shield them from the snow and wind, barely visible.
This should keep the wind out at least.
no subject
I might just stay in the shower for a while when I get home. It's been a rougher trip than I thought it would be.
no subject
That sounds like quite the idea indeed. That bath house of ours would have done wonders if it were here.
no subject
Billy has a faint smile on his face as he thinks of it.
no subject
Celena smiles softly as she looks back to him briefly as they trudge along.
no subject
Are you itching to spread your wings?
no subject
That I certainly am indeed, once pressing matters are dealt with I shall be sure to be doing so.
no subject
There! He cheers silently to himself, pumping a fist as he forces himself toward the transport point.
no subject
Amusement clear in her mental tone as Celena pushes on as the transport point came into view.
no subject
There! Billy happily detaches from the rope and walks on through, eagerly awaiting transport back. Their mission is a success.
no subject
Celena steps away from the rope easily, having only been walking alongside it, giving a light grin to Billy as she walks on through with him.
