[It's a very practical reason! Luke can't cast fonic artes, so an injury to his sword hand really would put him out of commission. There's not enough room in the basement to try teaching him to cast (and Asch would rather not risk burning the place down), but this works, too.]

He looks at his hands, then switches his sword to his right hand. It feels like he's holding his sword backwards. He doesn't like it at all, and it shows on his face.
Trying to do this shit is sending him seriously off balance. Ughhh.]
no subject
...Well, can't hurt. He flips his sword to his left hand in turn - fair is fair, after all - and takes a step away from the wall.]
Spar me.
no subject
Are you sure?
[Even as he says it, he's turning and facing Asch properly, sword in a ready position. Which he keeps double-checking.]
... I'm not sure this is a good idea. I feel like I might hurt myself before I can even get a hit on you.
no subject
Give yourself a little credit.
[Because it's really aggravating when Luke doesn't - especially now that Asch has had his ass kicked by his replica. It's putting them both down.]
In theory, you're capable of anything I am. And I switched with much less experience than you have now and managed to not cut off anything vital.
no subject
... He sure did. Something else catches Luke's attention, though.]
So you really were born left-handed...
no subject
[Good job, Luke, you're dumb.]
I was roughly ambidexterous in everything but writing around the time you were born, but I've lost most of my skill with my left hand since then.
[He's not talking about why. It's emotionally complicated.]
no subject
Well, I only ever heard it from other people. Mostly because they wanted me to use my right hand, too. I didn't like it at all.
[He adjusts his grip on his sword.]
Ready?
no subject
[And that with a glance down to Luke's hands - yeah, you didn't even try at all, replica. Then again, Luke hadn't had very much ambition to rule the country, either.
Asch stretches his wrist a bit, causing a small pop in the joints - ]
Ready when you are.
no subject
As soon as Asch says he's ready, that's when Luke prepares himself. He's the one to charge in first, but his move itself is cautious. He tries to score a light hit on Asch's right shoulder.]
no subject
This is no great battle of identity - it's training for Luke, and a refresher for him, and to a lesser extent, it's a way of working his endurance back up again after that illness. There's some tiredness in his bones, still, but nothing like it was a few days ago.
If nothing else, he knows Luke isn't going to push him farther than he's capable of going. It's a weird sort of trust, even as their blades clash, that there's no risk of him being hurt here.]
no subject
Luke pulls back from the parry, but tries to get in a thrust before Asch can counter. If it actually hits, there won't be any hurt of course-- he's off in the way that people fencing for sport are usually off.]
no subject
He's kind of enjoying it, really - that's almost a smile.]
no subject
Luke recovers quickly, however, and sweeps in to try tapping Asch's unguarded side.]
no subject
And then they're back at it again - the great thing about their fighting style is that even though the blade is carried one-handed, the other hand is pretty well involved with a varity of uppercuts and other punches. It's one of those that's coming for Luke now -
Suddenly, having his sword in his off-hand isn't such a bad thing.]
no subject
-- ow!
[Good fucking job you two.]
no subject
Asch pulls back immediately, rubbing at his jaw with a curse under his breath - it's somehow funny, though, and there's a grin on his face that actually turns into a chuckle, almost a laugh.]
Damn... I can't believe we did that again.
no subject
He looks puzzled... and then he breaks out into a big smile.]
Hey, it got you to laugh!
no subject
[Tsuntsun powers activate.]
It's annoying as hell, that's all!
no subject
Admit it, you like sparring. It's fun.
