[open! and a couple closed ones;]
Date & Time: the beginning of July
Location: the market; a café
Characters: Shintaro and you! (and Erika and Momo)
Summary: Entering a café one afternoon, Shin discovers it to be almost full, with only one seat remaining -- next to you! So he nervously approaches. If you're Erika or Momo, you're for one reason or another out shopping with this loser.
Warnings: n/a for now! to be added if anything comes up.
[open prompt; a morning at the café]
[The café is crowded this afternoon. Granted it probably wasn't a huge shop to begin with, but there definitely are more people than he remembers usually seeing, and from what he can see and from what he's told, there's only one seat left at the counter.
He could go home. He could find somewhere else to get coffee. But he'd been distracted the last few weeks and didn't realize he'd forgotten his umbrella (or one of his roommates took it, either his sister or the blue-haired spawn of the devil) until he realized he was soaked, and the café was a walk from the housing building. It made him feel gloomy already thinking about how all the trouble he went through to come here would've been for nothing. He sighs and steps around a table toward the counter, hoping that the person sitting next to that empty seat isn't a scary person.]
Excuse me, um... is this seat taken?
[if you're Erika Furudo you belong here]
[Whenever he asked Erika how she was doing, he would always get the same answer: "I'm so bored." He didn't really know how to keep mystery-loving chopstick-worshipping twelve-year-olds (or at least he thinks that's how old she is) but, to most people, being in their apartment all day without anything to do probably counted as boring. And his sister would talk about wanting to go shopping sometime. He didn't know how much that applied to kids, but it is with that thought in mind that he knocks on her apartment door in the afternoon. When she answers, he curls his hands into fists loosely at his sides, slightly nervous, and states his invitation.]
You said you were bored, right? I'm on the way to the store, if you want to come with me.
[and if you're Momo you're here]
[After Momo's declaration that their apartment was lame and needed decorating and that he needed to help, they spent the last week or soarguing discussing exactly what they needed and how much it would cost for them to get the decorated apartment Momo so wanted.
On the list that Shintaro made Momo write out but has a general idea of in his head are things like curtains and shelves and dishes and appliances (etc. etc.). It's not like Exsilium had a department store for them to get everything at nor did they have the transportation device to carry all of the things back home, so they were limited. But Shintaro glances at Momo's face and hopes that this would satisfy her at least a little as he sighs.]

It's not that I need a nap, but I guess getting rained on isn't bringing up my mood at all or something like that.

[He finally takes a gulp of his coffee, and pulls a face.]
But take it from me - even if it seems appropriate somehow, moping around while you're soaked isn't any improvement on doing it dry. You gotta have somewhere else to go, right?

[siiiiiiigh]

I don't really know where I could've forgotten my umbrella in the apartment though. Maybe I'm really tired.
no subject
[He's started to fidget with his hat again.]
Anyway, if you do want to hurry up and get out of here so you can mope somewhere less crowded, the line's not too long right now. [He points over his shoulder.]

[He looks over to where Edward points, then sighs again. The guy's got a point after all.]
Sorry-- um [shit he doesn't know his name] I'm Kisaragi. Shintaro Kisaragi.
no subject
[Then he starts to stand up, jolting somebody else's chair in the process and showing no sign that he cares.] Actually, what were you getting? I'm gonna need some change for later.
no subject
[Wait no what are you doing.]

no subject
W-wait, what are you doing??
no subject
He sets it down in front of Shintaro without a word, then squints around for his hat, not seeing it immediately.] Hey, I said look after it...

-- Thanks?

I'm not kidding about finding somewhere better to mope, you know. Think about what everyone in this room must've survived not that long ago... They've all got their own problems to worry over, and they're the lucky ones, just like we are. [The guy's name would be a weird one for an Exile, and he suspects none of them would be this apparently clueless.] They don't need yours on top of that.
[...says the guy who was whining about his brother's cats to more or less a total stranger a few minutes ago.]
no subject
... I came here to get coffee and I got rained on. I'm not pushing anything onto anyone and weren't you the one who complained about cats first?
I don't... see why I have to be preached at.
no subject
His eyes quickly narrow again, though.] Well, I'm no preacher. I'm just saying. ...And cats are different. [That last part sounds a little less dispassionate.]
no subject
I might have the aura of a loser more often than not but I still feel accused of things I didn't do, you know?

[To leave, then. It's no great loss, Ed thinks. The coffee wasn't much good in the first place, anyway.
He stands up, throwing his hat back on without much care.]
Just remember not to stay here all day. It'll go cold.
no subject
[He gets to his feet, pushing wet bangs out of his face before looking down at Ed with a bit of a scowl.]
I don't need you telling me what to do, all right? Whatever bad vibe you think I'm spreading, it's honestly not as bad as your grouching about cats and telling me off about moping. I wasn't. I came here for coffee.
[He reaches into his pocket, pulling out a few marques and leaving the amount for that cup of coffee on the counter.]
Thanks, but if you didn't like something, ignoring it is also a choice you can make, you know?
no subject
[He stops somewhat abruptly on noticing the guy digging through his own change, and looks genuinely irritated for the first time - not that it's easy for a stranger to tell the difference.]
Look, I paid for that.
