Summary: The Initative needs a new device to be tested and Caesar needs some treasure stolen; both dilemmas can be solved by robbing a bunch of Chinese pirates!
Warnings: gamora kills a lot of things, the end.

The Chinese Seas, 19th Century. The objective is to obtain control of a merchant ship carrying iron ore, gun powder, and various spices that was historically lost to a particularly infamous pirate crew. It's recorded as their only ever win, and the ship itself never returned to port.

The goal is actually to be sent to the merchant ship a day or so before the pirate boarding, survive the pirate battle and get into the pirate hold, and to secure the Treasure of the Nine Kingdoms so that it never returns to Chinese hands. It is indeed gold-plated, and part of a smaller, more modest hoard of gold on board, along with various other goods, spices, and precious stones. There is also a gold plated chamberpot. (Go figure.)

What is your preferred type of ship?

[gamora]

The kind that go into space.

( duh. what do you think the green is, a skin condition? )

[velveteened]

( well now the green is something totally awesome and gamora has an excited teenage boy on her hands. )

I should've realized! ( because - yeah. ) Did you fly spaceships a lot before coming here?

[gamora]

( oh pama. she shrugs, because she's never given much thought to it. )

I suppose. It's just one of those things you do without thinking. How else are you supposed to get around?

( that makes him laugh, just a bit, in acknowledgement of that )

Just like how people would use a ship or a c - ( carriage, he'd been about to say ) car without thinking about it, depending on where they need to go. Does that mean you've been to a lot of different planets?

[gamora]

Sure. Never stayed very long on any of them.

( this.... sojourn on earth is the longest she's stayed in one place since her time outside of reality with adam. it's a disquieting thought, and her expression darkens. )

( the corollary to that being that she hasn't been anywhere this long before, which must be strange at the very least, and her change in expression isn't lost on him. )

What's your home planet like?

( hopefully this doesn't take them to an unpleasant topic for her as well! )

( oz. )

Barren. ( she shrugs. ) Or I'd guess, I've only been back once since the genocide of my species.

( the frankness of the statement, and how little it changes her expression, is probably the most unnerving thing about the entire thing. )

( the complete lack of change in her expression and tone, coupled with how blatantly she says it, makes him think he misheard at first.

SURELY HE DID MISHEAR!

except, of course, he didn't. )

It was a long time ago.

( and clearly that explains why she can act like it ain't no thaaaang. )

( he'd be even more of a liar if he didn't think he'd do exactly the same in her position, really. )

( lapses into silence a moment, looking back out over the water as a light wind tugs at the both of them. )

( there's a half shrug, but gamora doesn't extrapolate. )

So how did Caesar con you into coming?

[velveteened]

That was easy! ( bursts out brightly, giving her a sideways grin. ) Anything to help a friend, right?

( not precisely that easy, of course, but not horribly untrue either )

[gamora]

I was bored.

( WHAT ARE THESE 'FRIENDS' YOU SPEAK OF. )

[velveteened]

( he laughs at that. )

That's a good reason!

[gamora]

Maybe.

( it's not really good enough for gamora, but that's a conversation she doesn't want to have with anyone ever again. )
