open log » ❝ welcome to Exsilium ❞

Date & Time: Evening, 10th February 3312
Location: Transport Room
Characters: Open To All
Summary: Everyone is brought into the transport room at roughly the same time, in a great succession and flow of imported individuals. Everyone is being lead around in small bundles, or left to their own devices together inside the Initiative Hold.
Warnings: None.

Widespread and crowded, everyone is being transported into this unusually bright room with an efficiency that is almost horrifying. One after the other, new people are appearing -- being led, shown around and then ultimately abandoned with one final phrase; "Good luck."

The Initiative Hold is wide, like a small town in its depth and industry. You've received your weapon; you've got your keys, your netbook, and one of those robed strangers has shoved a small pouch full of what you can only assume is money into your open palm. You've been given an apartment, but where on earth -- are we on earth? -- is it? Your best opportunity right now is to mingle; at least, that's what everyone else appears to be doing. Those strangers in the robes have left. They're tending to the people who are arriving, one by one and in a quick procession. Energy bustles all around you, as you're strapped up with your sudden gifts and looking around.

Hey, maybe you'll even see some familiar faces.

[ Being directly addressed is enough to make him mindful of his bearing, and that tired frown disappears swiftly into composed stoicism. The bluntness of the question is perhaps a touch off-putting, but many things today have been such. ]

As it happens, I had found something... [ The frown reappears, but thoughtful, this time. ] Somewhat less tangible than the proffered swords and guns.

May I ask what it is? [Jade is soft-spoken and polite with his bluntness, his relentless curiosity tempered by his formal training. The shift in Laurence's composure is as noted as the earlier attitude.] The range of weaponry here is far beyond that which was available in my world, and I confess to some curiosity.
bottlegreen: (you can't even match these 'brows.)

[ There's a shift, almost uncomfortable, although almost entirely swallowed by his straight-backed and terribly proper mannerisms-- but less easy to hide is the vaguely embarrassed clearing of his throat.

it's kind of a weird weapon, okay. what can you do.
]

My voice, as it were. [ An awkward beat, and he rushes to add: ] I admit I have as of yet not had the opportunity to test it; I felt such a thing would be ill-advised and even reckless in such a tightly populated area. As such, I am afraid I cannot answer very many questions on the subject.

[Jade is too interested in the answer to mess about with the matter of the discomfort. It is noted as a matter of character (and therefore as a matter of Jade's classification of the people here by probability of threat) but he isn't going to pick on it. Instead, he answers calmly and promptly, as if he hadn't noted the discomfort at all.] A prudent decision. An associate of mine was able to use powerful attacks through her singing. [And people in his world use tuning forks as symbols of power. Voice weapons are all cool here, bro.] I would be interested in comparing the methods used at a more convenient time and location.

[He should introduce himself. Stupid social interactions getting in the way of his science.]

It's Colonel Jade Curtiss, incidentally.
bottlegreen: (that's totally a wig.)

[ Well, he's at least a little comforted by the easy reception, and any lingering signs of awkwardness vanish back into his formal air. ]

It is a pleasure to meet you, Colonel Curtiss. I am Captain Laurence; pleased to make your acquaintance, lamentable circumstances nonwithstanding. [ He doesn't offer a shake, but at least there's a polite nod. ] I should be pleased to compare this weapon with whatever experience you may have in the matter; it comes to me that we all shall need to be quite profficient with our weapons, here.

[Jade inclines his own head in a mirror of the greeting.] Please, call me Jade. I'm not accustomed to be addressed by my family name. [This is not at all an overture of familiarity; Jade has managed to convince the entire military force of Malkuth to address him as 'Colonel Jade.' Or one of the other titles involving his first name. Either way, it doesn't seem to matter to him too much. It is more a reply delivered of reflex than a serious matter of concern.]

I agree. Particularly if such abilities aren't ones you are naturally inclined towards, it will may also be worthwhile to examine precisely how they were bestowed upon us.
bottlegreen: (who is that god fellow anyway?)

[personal profile] bottlegreen 2012-02-12 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, he really doesn't want to call him Jade. It's an uncomfortable level of familiarity; he doesn't call even his well-known and liked First Lieutenant by his first name, unless the two of them are alone. But of course, he's not one to refuse a direct request, and so he only nods, stiffly. It will be best not to refer to the man by name at all, in this case. ]

As you like. [ mooooving right along. ] And may I be so bold as to ask which weapon it was you were given?

A spear, as I've been trained in for the battlefield. [There is, however, no obvious spear on his person] Not as advanced as others offered, but it has its uses.
