open log » ❝ welcome to Exsilium ❞

Date & Time: Evening, 10th February 3312
Location: Transport Room
Characters: Open To All
Summary: Everyone is brought into the transport room at roughly the same time, in a great succession and flow of imported individuals. Everyone is being lead around in small bundles, or left to their own devices together inside the Initiative Hold.
Warnings: None.

Widespread and crowded, everyone is being transported into this unusually bright room with an efficiency that is almost horrifying. One after the other, new people are appearing -- being led, shown around and then ultimately abandoned with one final phrase; "Good luck."

The Initiative Hold is wide, like a small town in its depth and industry. You've received your weapon; you've got your keys, your netbook, and one of those robed strangers has shoved a small pouch full of what you can only assume is money into your open palm. You've been given an apartment, but where on earth -- are we on earth? -- is it? Your best opportunity right now is to mingle; at least, that's what everyone else appears to be doing. Those strangers in the robes have left. They're tending to the people who are arriving, one by one and in a quick procession. Energy bustles all around you, as you're strapped up with your sudden gifts and looking around.

Hey, maybe you'll even see some familiar faces.
clinical: (it's easy when you know how it's done)

screw that I want it all. YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE

For Will's question, Jade's answer is in the broad grin that spreads over Jade's face at Lion's words. He steps forward (and does not deign to depocket his hands) and says, "My, my. It would seem that once again, not even universes dare to separate young lovers. My aged heart is reborn."

It is also one concern set aside. Lion, who has become to him a respected charge as Ion once was, is safe and with Will. The issue is set neatly aside as his eyes flicker to Will and his voice briefly assumes a less mocking tone as he makes a professional inquiry. "I assume we remain out of Heaven's jurisdiction."

With fond exasperation, Lion sighs. Even in another fragment Jade probably can still avoid a sneaky pinch. Maybe one day the chance will come.

Though right now, Lion doesn't feel like trying. It's just nice to have these two here. "At least you're in a lively mood as usual."

Jade gets the flattest of stares for the first part, tinged with annoyance at the blatant shot. But for as much of a migraine Jade is, he catches onto cues nice and quick. No need to go through the whole ritual of explaining in small syllables like with Lion, and it means Jade's snark also doubled for an answer.

Remembered, huh? Well, that's interesting. Jade can watch as his eyes narrow a bit. Information filed. Moving on - which Jade also does nicely - and his answer gets a beat of silence. Eyes closed and making another attempt just for the sake of trying. A beat.

"You assume correct. The feeling's different though."

"Oh no, I'm nearly passing out from distress. You'll have to carry me to the apartment I've been kindly given." They should discuss that. Jade has no intentions of staying in a residence given to him, but he'll have to seek employment first. Either way, his attention is back on Will by the end of the retort. "Can you explain how it's different?" Will tends not to bother with useless paths of inquiry, so that's the end of if they can learn nothing more from that. The rest will come after.

While they discuss those matters - Lion doesn't need a headache and can get the gist fine - Jade's things undergo a thorough inspection. Yes, it is likely that Jade will move out if possible. He is an independent type and all this allowance and allotted space with no lab probably bothers him. But Lion still needs to know these things.

Handy dandy notebook comes out and Lion writes down information. Until Jade does that, this is good to know. Even after he does - because it's Jade and he'll manage it - it might be good to keep some records.

Lion's movements get a glance, eyes rolling a beat after. You were just given a computer, use it - but whatever. Just like he himself avoids useless inquiry, Jade tends to avoid useless questions. Which means Lion's utterly ignored for the sake of the question. Adults are talking now, little kids can go play with notebooks for now.

A moment of silence, more going over it in his head to find the best wording, then speaking when landing on it. "Last time it was more... forced. Like we weren't welcome there and being blocked from entry. This time it's more along the lines of 'it's not our place, so we're staying out of it'. Probably a genre difference."

Since it doesn't matter in the end. Blocked is blocked, no matter how nice and mannerly it's arranged. So nothing's really changed. Looking into it any further would make it... Well. A useless inquiry.

[personal profile] llywelin 2012-02-10 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Excuse you but Lion is not a kid. And writing in the notebook feels much more permanent than bits of whatever it is that goes into computers. After finishing to satisfaction, Lion glances up.

"Science fiction, isn't it? I usually couldn't enjoy it much with all the odd terms and babble." Though Lion can appreciate the softer side, hard sci-fi is a no. Rockets are not more interesting than people. "I wonder if this is better or worse?"
clinical: (my sun you sleep in clouds of fire)

[personal profile] clinical 2012-02-10 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
No further queries there. Oh well. It's still worth knowing that much. "We've at least been relieved of atmosphere of that story. That should come as a relief to you both." He adds, "While I hate to reject our hosts' hospitality, if there's no laboratory in this apartment, I'll have to fine a residence elsewhere." He doesn't feel the need to make the offer. They know it's there and can make their own choices. "I'll take at least a week to settle in and look for employment."
alethiological: (Angéle de la Barthe (d. 1275))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I put my vote with Jade's. At least sci-fi isn't underhanded."

He doesn't have to make the offer. Jade's enough of a predictability where it translates just fine. And his effort at being subtle just gets a shrug. Like he cares. A building's a building. But there's no need to make the offer explicit. May as well play along with it.

"Hopefully you can handle your finances." Seeing as Lion handled all of that the last time, and he's already come to terms with the fact his income is eternally in the hands of a rich brat. It also means the obvious - wherever Lion wanders, he inevitably follows.
llywelin: (Default)

[personal profile] llywelin 2012-02-10 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
The offer would have been noticed if Lion hadn't been writing down what Jade said. A week to settle in sounds right. Assuming employment can be found right away, at a decent wage- but what are the prices like around here? Living expenses can probably be gauged from the allowance given. So the standard of living measured against that...

Lion blinks out of a daze and glances back up. Already, said finances sprawl over the page. "Oh? Oh, yes." Tapping the small pen to pursed lips. They will have to consider that. It was very convenient last time but Victorian homes are large. Factors like space and rent will need to be seriously balanced. The costs of living together for the space needed and also remembering it isn't just a house but upkeep and various other expenses. "I'll start looking into it."

Well, someone in that family had to inherit business sense.
clinical: (your structure's fine)

Jade glances at Lion briefly. That child, sometimes... "Until we have more data on this world, it's pointless to speculate."

Say thank you, Will. He's trying to cut off the budgeting before it can go down strange roads.
alethiological: (Raymond Lisenba (d. 1942))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
He doesn't say it out loud. But Jade's a smart old man. Good enough to catch the fleeting smirk he gets at the comment. Cutting off Lion's stupidity is always a good thing, and his move to cut it off prematurely is approved.

No need to leave Jade as the only man out in a war against stupidity. A second after he speaks is when a hand flies over. Taking Lion's notebook to cut off the thought processes. Tends to cause anger and bickering for a couple of days, but whatever. Lion's attention span probably isn't good enough to keep track of thought trains without it.

"Don't work on baseless knowledge. That's why he said a week." You don't even know the income of whatever job he'd take, don't be stupid.

[personal profile] llywelin 2012-02-10 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah-" Lion frowns, beginning to protest. That is not Will's to take and he knows Lion doesn't feel comfortable without it. It isn't a dependency so much as security. But Will is right at least on one part - without the notes right there, Lion can't concentrate on the thought for much longer.

Sigh. They win. "At least keep me informed." Also snatching the notebook back. The precious is Lion's again.
clinical: (in this world now I am undying)

[personal profile] clinical 2012-02-10 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course. I wouldn't deny you the pleasure."

So Lion wants to play with budgets and has the business sense to do so. The netbooks are simple, and remaining in this location is unlikely to provide any further information. And apparently they're to have guides to their apartments. It seems so unappealing to be guided. Either way, he will wait until he has learned the face of each of his fellow 'transports.' It will be useful to be able to pick them out in a crowd. "We're unreasonably biased towards ranged attacks. I'll have to find a melee fighter."
alethiological: (Jan Hus (d. 1415))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
He's tempted to hold it above Lion's head. But the subject gets dropped, so fine. Take your notebook back. Silly rich kid.

And Jade's not the only one with a problem over being shuffled around like a bunch of cattle. But that doesn't mean going along with it is pointless. Jade's taking faces, Will's taking conversations, and he's already looking off and getting distracted by one until that comment floats by.

Never reaching his face, but sounding completely amused when he turns back. "I'm sure you'll find a close-range fighter someday. Keep your hopes up. Positive thinking does wonders."

Both of them and their concerns earn a smile. Each concerned with different aspects, accessing the situation, doing what they can. Different methods but it's obvious. They really did have a nice routine before this, didn't they?

Lion puts the notebook away. "Why don't we go for a walk?" Only so much they can do but anything to help a feeling of productivity.

Every party needs a tank and a healer. Everything else is icing.

"It's nice of you to see that Will gets exercise."
alethiological: (Genrikh Yagoda (d. 1938))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but Jade you're not a healer. That means you're the same level as icing. Must suck not being a seventh fonist, huh?

And, while he'd normally go along with Lion's suggestion, Jade's spin on the matter earns a sigh. Right back to the annoyance-tinged apathy. "I'm not a dog."
llywelin: (Default)

[personal profile] llywelin 2012-02-10 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Now for the magic of Lion's thought processes, in which this statement is the end result. "Oh, I don't know. Stereotypical Dog traits would fit, wouldn't they? I only have a passing knowledge."

For those playing at home, Lion means the Chinese Zodiac. Oh all those years in school with blood type horoscopes and astrology and palm readings and throw the paper a certain way and ugh.
clinical: (so sweet to lose a friend)

[personal profile] clinical 2012-02-10 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Range is always icing. Delicious icing, but icing regardless. Jade is fully aware of this.

He is not fully aware of the Chinese Zodiac, however, so his contribution ends up being the following: "It's nice to see a couple that can be so open with one another."
alethiological: (Chidiock Tichborne (d. 1586))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's nice Jade doesn't contribute. It means the stab is entirely let go to give Lion a look that's specially reserved for things that fall under the filing of 'Battler Logic'.

"One, I highly doubt I'm a dog sign. Two, we didn't use the eastern zodiac. Three, please don't tell me you believe that nonsense?"

Just considering the last one as possible means you Battler Logic'd, Lion. Good job.

"I don't have any investment in it but I've listened to enough about it. Personality superstitions are very popular." The look given here reads plainly as, 'How dare you insult my honour?' Really, Lion has better things to do than wonder about stars guiding the future. "As for the first one, that's easy enough. I'm sure somewhere here will have a chart I can use to check. Just for fun."

A casual shrug. The odds are in Will's favour that Lion is wrong, so what does he have to lose, right? And backing out of such a harmless little bet would look silly.

And for Jade's sake, Lion turns to him. "I don't know if you have anything like it because of the Score but both Western and Eastern traditions have charts that supposedly predict your personality, compatibility with others, careers, romance and so on based on the day or year you were born or the alignment of the stars, things like that. I believe Will would be born under the Year of the Dog."

It is just teasing. Though, Lion finds some irony in the idea that Jade's world might not have silly things like this because they did have a guide.
clinical: (you think they know us now?)

[personal profile] clinical 2012-02-10 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Will's turn as victim set aside, Jade turns it over. What an interesting concept to have in place of the Score. He says, "The Score was more than sufficient for those purposes. Generally speaking, people pursued employment and marriage based on their Score."

Jade's own aide-de-camp had only entered the military because a Scorer had said he would one day aid a great and noble man as a soldier--and so Marco died protecting Fon Master Ion. A Scorer will never read a Score of death.

Well, Ion had said that the Score is best used as a guide for choosing between the many possible futures. It would seem that it is human nature across more than one world to seek that kind of guidance.

"Please tell me what Will's zodiac is when you find out. I'd love to know if we're compatible."
alethiological: (Cardinal John Fisher (d. 1535))

[personal profile] alethiological 2012-02-10 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's still a superstition," said only the slightest bit more stern than usual. Laziest angel ever, yes, but that's still an angel. Superstitions aren't real, it's just one of numerous illusions humans keep setting up, and even if it's for amusement, Lion just made an attack out of it. 'If it's not real, then why be concerned'.

It's ridiculous, but backing down would be even more ridiculous. So the entire situation is answered with a shrug, eyes closed and back entirely to dismissing everything ever.

"Sure. If it's any good, I'll marry you instead."
llywelin: (Default)

[personal profile] llywelin 2012-02-10 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Will. If that's the attitude, then it might be best he's never gone to high school. Lion can only imagine his reaction to girls asking for his blood type and birthday to do dating charts over lunch.

But since he's taking that option, well, challenge accepted. "I already know mine. It shouldn't be too difficult to do ones for you both. It comes down to number crunching anyway."
