Cometh the Big Crying Wheel
Date & Time: Sept 15th
Location: A refurbished castle on the outskirts of Exsilium.
Characters: Anyone at the party!
Summary: Vanadi hosts a party that goes very poorly.
Warnings: Violence, probably! Let a mod know if we should update this.

It’s a lovely night for a party!
The venue at the outskirts of town is, unfortunately, a bit drafty — and actually rather sparsely furnished, as well. In fact, party goers are encouraged to mingle, drink, and enjoy themselves in the courtyard, as the castle itself wasn’t able to be renovated in time, and has proven to be a little bit architecturally unsound. Any explorative guests might find a small hail of dust and pebbles on their heads if they venture too far in — and who knows what else, if they continue on.
But the drinks and snacks both are plentiful and delicious, and the large canvas set up from castle wall to castle wall keeps off the sprinkling rain. The weather could even be described as warmish and pleasant, if one were feeling generous. A group of Exiles plays classic instruments in one corner of the courtyard, having been paid enough to even smile at any Transports that wander near.
All in all, it’s shaping up to be a good night. Until about 10 PM, that is. Come 10 PM, the Misery rolls into town, tearing down the canvas, nullifying powers, and crying corrosive blood everywhere. That’s the cue for all hell to break loose, as the final wave of mind-controlled characters snag their victims and make for the hills — or at least for the UE. The mind-controlled characters will also have the backup of a squadron of 20 of the Masked, the UE's special ops force. The Masked's main goal is to grab those on their list and get away, but they're certainly not above shooting to kill at anyone that gets in their way. They're also highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and physically enhanced by their suits, so they're a good bunch to try to avoid.
But do have a wonderful time until then, won’t you?

[ It's a low call, from about ten feet off and behind her. He can't bring himself to attack from behind, unannounced, and so this is the best he can do. He stands ready, both blades at his wrists extended and poised, with the sleeve around them sliced cleanly through. The grimness about him is a strange look for Vanadi. ]

She hadn't wanted to believe it, had tried to tell herself that maybe the United Earth just took it as an opportunity, but she knows better. Things haven't been quite right with Vanadi for a while, but she was too wrapped up in her own messes to pay enough attention, and now it's too late. Right now, Vanadi's just one more person that she's failed.
Her heart drops when she hears her name, but she turns instantly, shifting her grip on her staff to bring it up in a defensive position.]

[She's ready to fight, but she has to try reasoning with him, even if she knows it's futile.]

I'm to see out those who are taking their leave. [ His voice is dull, devoid of the usual cadence, and only the accent remains. ] If you're not interferring, I have no quarrel with you.
[ It would be too much to hope for, but he says it anyway. ]

So, what, I walk away and you attack someone else trying to help?
[He knows her better than that. She'd rather end up with one of those blades across her throat than let him hurt someone else.]

[And then she lunges forward, bringing her staff up to preemptively block the blades, while she aims a a strike at his chest, focusing on what she remembers being the organic parts of his body.
There's already a plan forming in her head, but she doesn't like it.]

He doesn't have time to reply before his body is snapping into motion. He allows one of those blades to be caught up by the staff, but retracts the other to get around it, and easily catches the strike at his chest in one gloved palm. A metal knee slams up at the same time, looking to catch her lower stomach. ]
