( Or, perhaps more accurately, the location is really "the place that is being constructed into a clinic." Though he spent a few days dedicated to fiddling in the VR room, he has his retreat there fixed, and there are more important things to focus on. The majority of the time he's in the clinic.

A. Fixing thing up. Right now, hiding his magic seems stupid, rather than helpful, and he's very carefully using his ability to manipulate metal to make the most of the materials that they have, reconfiguring the space to allow for maximum bed space, reinforcing the doorway, making a space for back up generators. There is zero meddling with the external structure, though, because that would obviously just be a really bad idea.

B. Paperwork - working on an inventory, working on patient records, going over notes for appropriate treatment for non-human Transports, trying to organize the (admittedly limited) medical texts that he lugged up on the flight. Save him from this plan or alternatively come and give him more stuff to... file or whatever.

C. Treating people - WHAT DID YOU DO. WHAT DID YOU DO.
Seriously though, what did you do because he needs to know so he can patch you up.

[Kelsier hasn't met many skaa who stutter, and something in the words reminds him of Lestibournes, the boy he renamed Spook. Lefting where I'm born, in the street dialect wasn't a good name. Wherever his uncle had picked him up from hadn't been a good place to be.]

[As such, he smiles disarmingly at Donny.]

"Kell" is fine.

[Stephanie uses it, and he supposes it's different, in the future, people are perhaps freer with such things, which suits him just fine.]

There's no need for [he gestures. The bow, it makes him uncomfortable. Sure. He made himself a prophet, a god, but that's another life.] ceremony.

[Hopping over-]

O-okay. ( "Kell," noted. And then-- )

Oh. ( Whoops. For a brief moment he looks mortified, before he catches it, presses it down. Don't. There's no room for Donny any more, only for Atlas. He has to be better. ) Uh, s-sorry.

( This whole trying to not be a stupid loser thing is a work in progress, but at least he looks slightly more convincing than he feels. )

M-my magic. Uh-- at um, at home everyone's m-magic is uh, a l-little different. ( A slight smile, at least. )

[He waves off the apology. No need. Enough has frightened this poor boy. Kelsier just smiles at him encouragingly, a tad more genuine than usual.]

This is incredible, far beyond people from my home. What else can you do?

[bumbles]

( He is never sure if people are smiling because they are encouraging him or laughing at him, but he tries to push past that, for now. Compliments are... difficult. )

N-not-- not beyond, it's just, uh. D-different worlds.

( It feels bad to talk about it like it's beyond other people, when it's simply a matter of where you come from. ) Um, it's-- k-kinda difficult. N-no earth and, um-- the f-fire could b-burn up the oxygen supplies.

( A fact that makes him a little too obviously sad, and there's that visible moment of catching himself, making himself straighten up. Stop it. Instead, he holds out his arm, rolls back his sleeve, and let's the metal band around his wrist start to melt, rolling over his skin. ) K-kinda uh, heat p-proof.

[Kelsier, by now, is more aware of the effect he has on people, and so he keeps smiling, but it's not as bright, or wide. Just. Something that's there, in the background, like pleasant music.]

Incredible. [He studies the melting band, curious and amazed at the same time.] Different worlds indeed.

[A beat.]

Have you heard of Feruchemy?

[bumbles]

( Different worlds, yes. Good. He is a bit reassured by the agreement, manages a very slight smile.

But, that word. ) F-feru-- huh?

( That would be a no, slowly shaking his head. )

Feruchemy.

[He repeats it, enunciating but not slowing down; he doesn't think Donny needs it spelled out, the word is just new to him.]

Feruchemists store attributes in metal, like speed, or memory, so they can use them as enhancements.

[bumbles]

Wow.

( Awed, yes. He loved metal, okay. ) That-- sounds amazing.

( More of a grin. ) Can um-- is that c-common, at home?

[Kelsier grins back at him, and then the smile fades at the question.]

Ah — no. The Lord Ruler destroyed much, amongst them Feruchemists. [shaking his head] I'm not sure why. I suppose he feared them.

[bumbles]

Oh.

( His own expression falters. )

A l-lot-- lot of p-people are scared of um, m-magic at home. They uh, idealise or g-get scared.

( So often with the extremes, as the metal peeling over his skin resolidifies into the band as he wraps his hand around it, gripping his wrist. )

[A nod.]

We were taught - and made - to be scared. [He pauses, and gestures, indicating a very tall and large person.] Inquisitors.

[bumbles]

( The first thing that comes to mind is the Spanish Inquisition but-- that's probably not the right thing. At any rate, the connection is enough to with what he said about the Ruler for it to be alarming. As it should be, he guesses. )

I'm-- I'm s-sorry they hurt p-people.

( The Inquisitors and the Lord Ruler. It's painfully genuine, the hitch in his breath, because he is so tired of people hurting. )

It's over now.

[Said quietly, and firmly. Kell nods, and then smiles again. He doesn't really enjoy discussing suffering.]

You can only use metal outside your own body?

[bumbles]

( There is something final to how Kelsier says it that is enough to push Donny to be quiet, but he won't forget. It's never over, that stuff, not really.

And a bit of confusion cast over his face. )

Um. I didn't-- think m-metal would b-be uh, inside.

( A frown. ) L-like-- iron in your b-blood?

[troublemancy]

[bro he's from way before that discovery.]

There's iron in blood?

[bumbles]

Oh.

( Stupid, Donny. He winces a little, something apologetic tugged at the corner of his mouth. )

Yeah. It, um-- w-well, it d-does a whole b-bunch. K-kinda-- hemoglobin? And enzymes. If you d-don't have enough you g-get uh, real t-tired.

( God he looks so awkward right now. Through a tight breath: ) Yup.

I have a lot to catch up on, it seems.

[Not perturbed at all. In fact, he seems rather enthusiastic and oddly nonchalant.]

Back to my question then - can you [he waves both hands, mimicking Donny's earlier movements, uncertain how to put it into words] with the iron in your blood?

[bumbles]

I have b-books.

( Brightly, before-- perhaps that was a joke, and suddenly he feels a little foolish again, thought he tries to shut it down. Do better than this, stop being so stupid, and there's a moment before he's trying to shake himself out of it, the only external indication a re-squaring of his shoulders. )

That, um, m-might be a little... advanced? Like, um, c-complicated. Iron isn't a b-big-- big p-percentage.

( That's a little better. ) What other m-metal-- d-did you mean? ( if it's okay to ask )

[Kelsier smiles brightly at Donny when he mentions books. Usually, he'd make a joke about them being silly, but Donny's earnestness is hitting his Spook buttons, and Kell was fond of the boy, despite what the crew thought. He was a good lookout.]

[He keeps smiling, although it's the soft, encouraging one from before, letting Donny speak.]

[Weighs a short pause, before he holds up his hands, fingers splayed, and folds them in as he counts.]

There are ten: iron, steel, tin, pewter, zinc, brass, copper, bronze, gold, atium.

[bumbles]

You'd... have those in your b-body?

( duuuuuuuuuuude. Also he's pretty sure there's more metals than that, more elements, but he's not exactly a science guy beyond the medical stuff he's learned. He might ask Max, and also, he doesn't want to be rude to Kelsier and pt him on the spot. That'd be rude. )

I, um. I c-could maybe m-manipulate them if uh, they were around? I d-don't work with uh, g-gold much.

( A sheepish grin: it's a bit pricey. )

Why, yes. [Feruchemists need to be touching it, and Allomancers swallow it, but Kell's not that open a guy. Besides, he likes to keep people guessing.]

[Kelsier nods at the mention of gold, oddly reticent.]

Gold... is a very strange metal.

[bumbles]

W-wow.

( That's crazy. He can't help but imagine opening your stomach up like a safe, entering in a combination and letting it swing open, to see gold ingots inside.

That's probably not what Kelsier means. Oh well. It's a good image. He can't quite help the curiosity, head canted as he watches Kelsier, forgetting himself a little as curiousity and his love for metals override his shyness a little. )

[Delighted that the subject of metal seems to help Donny relax, Kelsier wonders how much he can expand on the topic without giving anything away.]

They say it shows you the past. Strange, eh?

[bumbles]

Really?

( UGH METAL IS SO COOL but also wow Donny that was too much enthusiasm and he looks sort of embarrassed by and for himself for a second, gaze dropping and rubbing as his neck. )

Um. Y-yeah that's-- that's k-kinda weird. ( but also so cool. Although: ) Seems, um. Like it-- w-would be c-complicated. Is there m-much known about it?

( he feels so rude but metal. )

[Overpowering urge to pat Donny's shoulder. Kell resists, it doesn't seem like a good idea to him.]

Unfortunately, no. Gold is expensive, and a waste to burn.

[metal = super cool k.]
