(no subject)

Date: November 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings. The zombie plot will not spill over into this area, this area is safe and unaffected! To face zombies, characters must leave the area, and please move to the event log with those threads.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced — although it won't have Network access for another 8 hours. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now; the only lighting comes from dull red emergency lights, but there are… noises. Listen carefully. Over the voices of your fellow Transports, now and then you might catch the sound of a scrape, or a low and muffled cry. It doesn't sound human. Are there animals up here?

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

[[ ooc; As a note for players of current characters: please keep your root comments confined to the various groups and organizations that set up root comments to greet new characters! We highly encourage tagging around here, but since it's a log meant for new characters specifically, we ask that they be the ones to set up root threads to the entry. Thank you, and happy playing! ]]

That's at least one thing to be said for up here. The view is pretty great.

[Though really, Peter is just relieved to be off Earth period. Even if he's not anywhere near where he'd like to be, and ripped away from all the really important problems he was trying to fix, like how do you repair a giant space wedgie, at least he doesn't have to be planetside.]

If you like Earth, at least.

I do like Earth. I live there, I sure hope I'd like it okay.

[ Not that he's really a "there's no place like home" kind of person, but he still prefers all of Earth to the weird, lonely moon. ]

Clearer skies up here, though.

You may not want to go back for awhile, then. It doesn't look much like it used to.

[Considering what they did to the planet. Is he still mad about that? Absolutely. Never going to be ok with that. All of that. Especially the bomb.]

It's the lack of atmosphere. Everything looks great in space. From space. It's only when you go looking at what's on the stuff down below that you run into trouble.

[ His nose wrinkles slightly, looking down at the Earth, then over at Peter. ]

I'll live, I'm not usually the type of person that gets homesick.

[ He steps back from the window slightly. ]

Even I had a choice in the matter. I mean it's not exactly "come and go as you please" up here, is it? [ Or is it? ] Probably my only chance to ever be in space anyway.

Well, you could make your way back to past Earth, if you were feeling so inclined. Dunno how they'd feel about taking a permanent shore leave, but I'm sure you wouldn't be the first to want one, or the first to try.

[This is probably not reassuring. Peter doesn't know a reassuring way to put that, at all.]

Most people would probably prefer it, if they've gotta be here at all.
mallarkey: #realestate (we don't like the environment?)

It'd be news to me if anyone's already tried. [ Even though he... just got here... ] Thought did cross my mind, though. I already miss fresh air.

Do you? ... Prefer it?

Until I came here I hadn't set foot on Earth in well over a decade. It's a nice place for some people. Just not for me.

[He won't mentioned how utterly trapped and furious it had made him to find himself stuck on his home planet, once more. The moon is a substantial improvement. That much closer to the life he belongs to.}

[ Eyebrows raising...

He asks, almost skeptically:
]

What, are you an alien or something?
getoffmyearth: gotg v2 (pic#6757720)

[personal profile] getoffmyearth 2013-11-27 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh- half? If you want to get really technical about it.

[HILARIOUSLY NOBODY ELSE HAS THOUGHT TO ASK THIS YET it's not even like it's obvious, what with how the Spartoi look almost exactly like humans...]

Not that it matters. I grew up on Earth. That's what seems to count.
mallarkey: (stops talking altogether)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-11-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ HE'S NOT USED TO ALIENS, he doesn't even read comic books!! ]

Half-alien, half-human? [ Oh my God... well it's said casually enough that maybe it's not anything weird, but still, his face is a little ???? ] You grew up on Earth but you don't miss it?

[personal profile] getoffmyearth 2013-11-28 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Look it's not like he asked to have a dad who crash-landed on Earth and knocked up his mom and then ditched them both for space.

Which, ok, Peter thoroughly prefers space, but that's still a pretty strong "shitty parent" situation there.
]

That's about the gist of it, yep.

[What can you do?]
mallarkey: (<-- how much I care)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-11-28 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ He may not know from aliens but he does from shitty parenting. Not that he'll ask... ]

Well, what's so great about space?
getoffmyearth: gotg v2 (pic#6669792)

[personal profile] getoffmyearth 2013-11-28 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
[It's better not to ask.]

Did you ever watch Star Trek as a kid?
mallarkey: (look I'm the one with an education)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-11-28 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not as a kid. Didn't have a TV.

[ With a mildly sheepish shrug: ]

I knew it wasn't real, anyway.

[personal profile] getoffmyearth 2013-11-28 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Good, because I was going to say, it's not like that at all. And thinking that will get you killed right quick. Probably on the sword of the first sexy green lady you meet. [Gamora.] But the idea is still there. There's always somewhere new to go, something to see that you haven't seen before.

[Or so he thought. Back when he was young and idealistic. And no it is not at all weird to have this conversation which has become somewhat personal...but Peter has a talking problem.]

Turns out a lot of that "haven't seen before" can be pretty shitty when you get right down to it. But it's never boring, at least.

mallarkey: but top buttons are for squares (unprofessional dresscode variation)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-11-28 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's sort of intimidating -- the first part is, anyway -- but he manages with some effort not to look like he's intimidated. He arches one eyebrow up. ]

Don't worry about that, I know the difference between real life and the movies. [ Well -- normally he does. He casts a dubious but brief glance toward the window then waves his hand, NEVER MIND THAT PART. ] I mean... I get it, down on Earth I did the same thing. Well... a version of the same thing. Drove around, saw new places. It isn't boring, but you get used to it quick.

[personal profile] getoffmyearth 2013-12-02 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[That both is and isn't what Peter meant, all at the same time. But maybe he's jaded. Well, hell, he's been jaded for years, there's no maybe about it. Even out swanning around the galaxy just for the sake of curiosity you can't avoid hard revelations about yourself, or actually getting drawn into living.]

It's never what you think it's going to be, is it?
mallarkey: (just be gone)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-12-03 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That merits a momentary silence, perhaps even contemplative; his jaw cocks to the side a little and he's caught not knowing if he should nod or shake his head. He decides on the latter at the last second. ]

No... not really. Wouldn't really be living if you could plan it all out.

[Inadvertent moments of life philosophy, brought to you by Peter Quill's ability to shut up.]

Nope. [] It's Peter, by the way. Peter Quill. Did I say that already or did I open with Star-Lord?
mallarkey: (it's okay I have a friend who's a lawyer)

[personal profile] mallarkey 2013-12-08 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh-- [ The name "Peter" catches him a little off-guard, a little close to home in some abstract way. ] ... Don't think you did, no. I'm Doug. Doug Rich. What's a Star-Lord?
