(no subject)

Date: November 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings. The zombie plot will not spill over into this area, this area is safe and unaffected! To face zombies, characters must leave the area, and please move to the event log with those threads.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced — although it won't have Network access for another 8 hours. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now; the only lighting comes from dull red emergency lights, but there are… noises. Listen carefully. Over the voices of your fellow Transports, now and then you might catch the sound of a scrape, or a low and muffled cry. It doesn't sound human. Are there animals up here?

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

[[ ooc; As a note for players of current characters: please keep your root comments confined to the various groups and organizations that set up root comments to greet new characters! We highly encourage tagging around here, but since it's a log meant for new characters specifically, we ask that they be the ones to set up root threads to the entry. Thank you, and happy playing! ]]

[ With a nod, Anne picks up each item and recites how to use them as she was taught, hoping of course she doesn't forget or confuse anything. These were as new to her as they are to this...thing, and so her pronunciation of the newer words are a bit awkward.]

This is called 'antihistamine', and it is to assist if you suffer in what they call allergy. This cream you use to assist if your flesh ails from various irritations, and it will be calmed. These are necessary for when you have gone without water for too long of a time; they will bring energy.

[ So hard to keep a straight face. Fuck water, she's just fine. Anyway, now they're to the mask, and she's not about to screw up her hair by pulling it on, so she looks over her shoulder to call out. ]

Master Casey! Might my humble self please call upon thee to assist?

[ Balking at the last item seems a little odd to Rinth, though the way she translates Anne's action is entirely off. Calling for someone else to come over is only another indicator of not knowing a damn thing to her.

Like she'd stop and wonder if a human's worried about their hair, of all things!
]

Stuck on the last one? Typical. They shouldn't sit you up here if you can't even manage to remember what everything does.

HI I CAN CHANGE THIS IF IT'S NOT OKAY

Lady Anne has d-done a lot to um, help with m-making these kits and v-volunteered her time to b-be here to help new arrivals. I know it's, um, a lot to wrap your head around.

( But he wasn't being a bit of a dick to anyone on his first day, just fyi. His words are quiet, as was his approach after Anne's calling of his name caught his attention, and as much as he isn't Atlas, has lost Atlas, he's holding himself more steadily. With the stammer, yes, but at least he can pretend a quiet confidence. ) I think it's admirable of her t-to learn about something n-new.

( He's not aggressive, but there's something stronger in him, now, a steadiness that doesn't suggest he can be kicked down the way he might have been a few weeks or even just a single week ago. He has to be better. He can try to unravel the tangled mess of this later. And then, to both of them really, because he's not exactly sure what he's walked into: ) How c-can I help?

[ And yet Rinth is intent on making up for what Donny isn't being, a massive dick her first day. Probably all the days following, too, but hey, she's managed not to outright attack anyone yet, so that's something! ]

It's only admirable if she gets it all right. [ As for what Donny can help with, she motions towards the CPR mask. ] A mask of some sort, but for what, I can't tell.

[ Her smile is stiff, and obviously so, as she once again observes the tall monster cat before looking back to Donny. To him her smile softens only somewhat, her nerves frayed by this unexpected run-in. She speaks loudly, so the other is sure to understand the real reason for calling him, although something like that wouldn't understand the importance of fashion if it slapped it in the face. ]

This oft gets tangled in my hair and I wish not to make a mess of such a demonstration for one of our poor new Transports. Would you mind modeling it for me whilst I offer example?

[ Anne doesn't need help explaining things, she just needs a live dummy. But if he wants to she won't mind, either. Not like she cares what a rude beast thinks of her. ]

No p-problem.

( Although he looks back to Rinth, first, ) We c-can um-- m-make stuff better suited for your anatomy, too. Most Transports are human or physically um, p-pretty close? But we want to make sure you have whatever you need to keep you safe, so we-- we c-can make it.

( A little nod, a soft exhale of breath at the relief of having gotten all that out, before he's bending at the knee to bring himself to an easier height for Anne to do whatever she needs to do without needing to stretch or reach up. He does loom a little. Polite looming. )

Don't bother. I can adapt everything on my own, if I ever see the need for it.

[ Like she'd take such an offer from anyone at all. Her gear is either self-built or taken from Iron's stock. Anything else is simply less in her eyes, but she's hanging on to her last waning threads of tact to keep from snapping that at Donny.

So instead she settles on quietly watching their little demonstration.

[ Then why don't you figure this out on your own you furry piece of-- ]

Now see, here, this is made smaller so as to fit inside. You push it out like so...and attach this piece for your mouth here.

[ The headband part isn't actually necessary but since Anne was shown every step for modern medical 'procedures', she will continue to show every step! So the mask gets pressed over Donny's mouth and nose while she tugs the band around his head to keep it secure. She's not about to lean over and show how it's done, it's obvious from there. ]

And then you blow two times to fill the patient's air with lungs. You are to do this in exchange with thumping the chest... Are you to need an example of CPR?

[ Because she needs to see what it does first, you pathetic little-- ahem. ]

A definition of CPR first might be nice.

[ Now she's back to being more curious than annoyed, squinting at the entire procedure, trying to figure out why anyone would want to breathe into someone like that. ]
