Date: December 1st
Location: The Observatory.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Observatory after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

Your arrival here has been very unceremonious. One second you were somewhere else, and now, very suddenly, your feet hit the glowing white of the Transporter pad, and you're here. You aren't alone, either. There's a crowd of others around you, each seeming just as bewildered, angry, or confused as you might feel. At the head of the group is a woman in purple robes, solemn and taciturn. She hurries over a quick overview of your intended purpose here, and gives direct answers when asked for them, but to most things she simply shows you how to access the tablet you've just been given, or tells you that the DITR's greeters will explain everything. On the tablet, you can find the history of this place and a record of what your new cohorts have experienced. Someone stands on hand to give you a weapon, and though the armory is now greatly reduced, you should be able to find something to suit you.

You're shepherded down a walkway tunnel and into the Observatory, where you will find screens mounted on three sides of the wide room; they show multiple variations of satellite images, focused on... somewhere snowy. It's difficult to say more than that, but those that record heat readings seem to suggest there are people there, where ever "there" is. It's night outside the great wide windows, and the lunar landscape isn't much to look at right now. But, hey, at least all the lights are on, right? No more creepy red emergency lighting upon arrival — not that you'd know anything about that.

You're free to explore the base, visit and use any of the VR rooms, or discover your new room and roommates, but try not to step out of any airlocks if oxygen is a requirement for your system.

Welcome to the moon base, and to the remains of Exsilium.

I've been gone for eight years, jackass! Though--I guess it was only a few months, here. But fucking still.

[personal profile] applethief 2013-12-03 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well fucking pardon me for not keep close enough tabs on you to notice, huh? [ marduk is far more upset about this than he has any right being, though. it is kind of his own fault. whatever. ] I'll be sure to check in on you every day from now on, how about that?
hymnals: i won't lie down as you walk away (not afraid of the price i pay)

[personal profile] hymnals 2013-12-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. Please. What the hell have you been doing with yourself? Can you even tell me how this shit with the moon happened?
applethief: (Default)

[personal profile] applethief 2013-12-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he opens his mouth, but doesn't say anything at first. after a moment's worth of contemplation, the best response he can come up with is: ] Ah.

[ and then. ] The city blew up?

What?
lambofcolumbia: (So it's like this...)

[personal profile] lambofcolumbia 2013-12-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The book I read about them said they were an archaic form of fortune telling that had fallen out of popularity amongst pagans.

[Yeah...]

It's new for all of us, really. We've only been up here about two months. On the moon.

[She's still routinely amazed by that.]
applethief: (Default)

[personal profile] applethief 2013-12-03 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well-- alright, the whole island did.

[ he's pretty sure that's what it was. marduk nods back over at the observatory screens. ] It wasn't that interesting, watching it. I'm willing to bet they recorded it, but fuck if I know how to bring it back up.
lambofcolumbia: (And this line says...)

[personal profile] lambofcolumbia 2013-12-03 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The dark haired girl shook her head at that question. "No. Well, there are doors, they call them 'airlocks' but you wouldn't want to go outside. There's no air outside."

Which didn't stop Elizabeth from wanting to go, but she hadn't convinced anyone to show her how to use those suits yet.

"If you mean home...they don't really seem to be able to do that. Not consistently. Sometimes people disappear, but..." A little shrug.

[Kido. He files the name away but doesn't bother introducing himself in turn. Not that he apparently needs to.]

Of course I don't.

[But should he? He's still far from finding his feet. (And even once he runs into Armin, he friend had (wisely) tried to keep his explanations as uncomplicated as possible at the start, so he's missed out on the slightly unsettling fact that he's been here before.) So, unsurprisingly- ]

What do you mean we didn't talk? What happens?
charming_jerk: (neutral)

[personal profile] charming_jerk 2013-12-03 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)

Me? Nah. I ain't got time to go crazy. Too much to do around here. I've been goin' on missions almost every day and comin' back with supplies. Plus, any excuse to get outta this place is a good one, if ya ask me.

Other people, though... I dunno. Have ya heard about the "mutiny"? [You can practically hear the quotes around that word. He hates that people are calling it that.]

[ "What with being kidnapped"—ah. It's the first, that's why Solomon is unfamiliar. The months really are slipping by faster than he can ever hope to retrieve them.

Chrono opens his mouth to respond when Solomon carries on, and then the arm in Solomon's grasp goes taut, a coil poised to lash out. The only people who can identify him on-sight haven been angels and exorcists, and though the former has proven considerably more insufferable than the latter, neither option is particularly favorbale. And yet... Solomon says it all so conversationally.

Flicks an anxious glance around the hallway and in his alarm, wastes no time crossing to his door (a happy accident that he'd been nearly to his destination when Solomon had intercepted him), yanking it open, and dragging them both inside.

He waits until it's safely and sound-proofedly closed before hissing; ]

Don't say things like that so loudly!

[ There's genuine relief on her face as she comes up to him, happy to see a familiar face after a steady trend of losing friends and connections left and right. She holds herself a little straighter than the last time she saw him, not so much caution thrown into every step. ]

I--well, I'm still alive, that's as good as it gets. But, but you're back!

[ The outstretched hand still gets a pause despite the cheerful tone, her hand lifts with the intention to take his then...drops to her other arm, rubbing at it awkwardly. ]
counterattacked: (so try where you are)

[personal profile] counterattacked 2013-12-03 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[You keep telling yourself that, Armin. He's mostly put himself back together, the striations around his eyes left over from shifting are faded, there's none of the gross telltale titan steam rising from his wounds to indicate a serious injury. He's just spent. Physically and otherwise. So instead of resisting when a supporting arm sneaks itself beneath him, he takes the opportunity to grip Armin tight at the shoulder.

Even with help, walking takes more of his hazy concentration so he's quiet long enough for Armin to explain. That metaphor...actually sort of helps. The welcoming committee covered this sort of thing. He wasn't really listening very well at the time.
]

You can't just kidnap people and force them to fight your wars for you.

[Oh good, his outrage is catching up to him, he can't be that bad off. The hand clapped on Armin's shoulder gets a bit tighter. As much as Eren believes in fighting the good fight, he does so because he believes in freedom. To enlist is to offer up your heart to humanity. They can't seriously expect the same kind of loyalty from a bunch of prisoners.]

It doesn't work.

[Send a bunch of unwilling and likely unprepared people to the front lines and you'll get a slaughter. They've both seen it.]
counterattacked: (we've got it all worked out)

Everything about this is screwed up.

[They didn't mention anything about high tensions in the quick and dirty briefing. Part of that is lost on him. He's not stupid, but laws and rules are not his forte. He's got a healthy respect for a chain of command that's proven itself worthy of it and a healthy distaste for a government that's proved itself worthy of the latter.

But he's nothing if not curious, and if he's stuck here-

If Oz were being completely honest, which he rarely is, he might admit that the sweeping views of space are one of the many things he hates about being on the moon. That's not very good conversation, though, and he's hardly going to admit something like this to someone who's scarcely arrived here; so despite Karkat's less than stellar (ha) reaction to the landscape, Oz offers a smile.

"The view's nice, isn't it?"
changeitroundsome: (I know all your desires)

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2013-12-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[He pays attention, most of it makes little sense to him, but pay attention he does anyway. He knows it's a tool he'll have to come to grips with, if he wants to really communicate with the people here. Seems the future is less and less about face-to-face conversations than he thought.

Once she's done, he nods, taking it back from her and pocketing it
]

Much obliged, little lady. I'll have do so something for you in return for such generosity. [He taps his chin, then lets out a surprised 'ah!' sound, as if the idea had just that second come to him] I know what I can do. I can read your cards for you.

[He pulls his deck out of seemingly thin air with a well practised piece of sleight of hand, starting to shuffle them]

It's a talent I've always had. Usually, I charge for the experience, but you've been so helpful, it'd be a crime for me not to give you a reading free of charge. So. Would you like to know about your future, Carol?

Oh, you're going to read my future?

[She's not sure how well that sort of thing works, but she thinks it might be fun. She has no reason to say no.]

Well that's very nice of you. I'd like to have a reading then, please!

"Right. The war machine."

Nate had absorbed some of the information being given, but everything was still sinking in. The Earth he was looking at was not the same he had hailed from, and that alone was pretty jarring. Subconsciously, he nudges his arm against his holster, where his pistol sits safely.

"So, let me get this straight. They want us to tango with a military force capable of continental destruction."

"Its a long story," he supplies. The last thing he needs in his conscious is getting a kid tangled up in that mess. He still didn't know if he was the only one who made it on the moon, or even what had happened. "Let's just say that someone doesn't like me very much."

[Oh for the love of God what is this racket. Kanaya came out here mostly to meet her own best friend, but on the way she sees Homura lashing the door - and the name attaches itself to her dark magical girl silhouette fairly quickly. Though if it's the first of the month and she's so confused by their location... she probably needs to be considered new and given help.]

You should know, since we're in space, that the doors aren't designed to buckle easily underneath brute force. Opening and closure is carefully monitored just like oxygen levels are. If you like I can show you how to operate it.

Around ten months.

( exactly ten months, actually, right as of this day. )
