OPEN: get in the car we're going shopping
Date & Time: 8/21-8/23 daytime
Location: Outside a civilian residential apt building
Characters: BIG SPENDERS or anyone really just tag your butts in and go to town
Summary: Yard saaaale. In the street. Because what is a yard in the future.
Warnings: Blood spilled over ShamWow??
What had begun as the idea of two became the realization of at least seven — all landlord approved and with nods of approval from neighboring apartment buildings. It didn't even take up a full block, but it was full enough to attract attention of passers-by on the morning hustle to work, saddling them up with something worth spreading to others along the grapevine throughout the day.
Mostly clothes and household items easily given up, but here and there a few gems. A would-be Initiative member had no need for old board games or a guitar or two, and there would be no time to take care of a pet, even one so curious and darling as Blinky. Now and then, its soon-to-be-ex-owner cast a sorrowful glance its way, only to get a slow, out-of-synch blink in response.
Oh, Blinky.
Parting woes aside, business wasn't bad! With the shabby state of affairs in Exsilium, the chance for something new, even a hand-me-down, always sparked interest. And with so many strange, new recruits, there was bound to be someone curious enough to drop down the cash for the most absorbent fabric ever made (those Germans made good stuff)...
And so, after the work buses left the area, the tables went up and the wares were put out until the workday would come to a close and force the tables out of the street. Someone was bound to score something worthwhile in that time over those three days...!

sayaka, open
She can be generally be found looking at lightcatchers, browsing through the clothing, or side-eyeing the hell out of (and later having a staring contest with) poor Blinky. Apparently she can't get her head around the fact there's a three-eyed fish, even with all the other weird things that have happened so far. ]
no subject
[Alice notices the other is already looking at something else, so naturally, she decides to look as well!]
What is it that's managed to catch your attention so-
[and then she sees Blinky.]
Oh.
no subject
You're seeing this too, right? [ She blinks, and the fish follows suit in it's own strange way. ] It's way too weird! How does something like that even happen?
[ Yes, the strangest thing about being thrown more than a thousand years into the future is the existence of Blinky. Priorities. ]
no subject
[This was real, right? She and Sayaka were definitely looking at a fish with one extra eye.]
Perhaps this is common for all the fish here?
[She certainly hoped not and oh god it blinked at her.]
no subject
... I'm not sure. [ She hasn't exactly been paying attention to the fish, admittedly, but it's not like she's been out and about much. ] I don't think it is, though. Nobody would pay that much if every fish was like this.
[ Admittedly, it's kind of cute in a super freaky kind of way, but not really her thing. ]
It's just a really weird thing to put in a sale. I mean, everything else is pretty normal. [ If a little future-y, but that much is at least expected. ]
no subject
[Alice has seen a lot of things, but to her, they were all just part of Wonderland. It was as natural to her as it was to them. A mere three-eyed fish should not have been so strange to her.
However, there was a clear difference as to what she expected to see in Wonderland and what she expected here.]
Perhaps they can't continue providing care for it?
no subject
Yeah, maybe. [ Mutant fish need love too. ] That's kinda sad, if you're right. It's not so bad if you ignore the eyes.
[ Which is admittedly a pretty big ask, but. ]
no subject
[Alice presses her hand against Blinky's bowl.
She really does hope someone will take him in. It shouldn't matter that he's... different.]
But certainly not impossible.
no subject
Right! [ Blinky Sayaka is trying to be nice to you, must you keep unnerving her with that slow weirdass blink of yours. Cue nervous laughter. ] ... They'd have to be able to deal with that, though.
[ Does any such person even exist? ]
no subject
Perhaps it could be an squired taste, or he could be trained to... do it properly.
no subject
Do you think that's even possible? I've never seen anything with three eyes before, so maybe he has to blink like that. [ But three eyed things are so common, she clearly has just been living under a rock. ]
no subject
Having one extra eye shouldn't prevent him learning such a simple task.
[Meanwhile, Alice has seen... quite a bit.
then again what does she know about 3-eyed fishes.]
no subject
She muses, in an annoyed way, on how easy it is to trail Sayaka without being noticed. It was like she needed someone to keep an eye on her to prevent any mishaps. She stops near the lightcatchers, grabs one, and tiptoes behind Sayaka to dangle it in front of her face.
Basically, she's being annoying.]
Oi. Don'tcha pay attention to stuff around you?
no subject
You shouldn't sneak up on people like that. [ God, Kyouko, this is why you have no other friends. Sayaka's only being so tolerant because getting out to the sale has lifted her mood a little... but her tolerance only goes so far, so she goes back to looking at the lightcatchers instead of Kyouko. ] Why are you over here, anyway? This stuff's way too delicate for someone like you.
[ Because she's one to talk, right. ]
no subject
And she shrugs at Sayaka's scolding.] You should be less easy to sneak up on. I coulda been a mugger, y'know. [Sound knowledge from a hooligan.
Also, she's offended at the notion she's not delicate enough for lightcatchers.] Psh, yeah right. Like you're any better.
no subject
I can handle myself. [ At least a mugger wouldn't stick around to keep bothering her. ] And I'm better than you, at least. I was trying to choose one before you showed up.
[ See, she's actually interested in them for reasons beyond being annoying. That alone puts her a step above Kyouko. ]
no subject
Heh, whatever you say. And who says I'm not gonna pick one? Maybe I like junk like ths. [She picks up another one, as if to prove it.] How would you know, anyway?
no subject
Then go ahead. It's not like I'm gonna stop you or anything. [ Hey, who knows. Maybe if Sayaka ignores her enough, she'll get distracted by food or something and go away. It isn't a particularly good plan, though, because she keeps glancing over at Kyouko every few seconds - part of her is curious to see if she actually does end up with one or not. ]
no subject
She eventually comes up with one that actually catches her eye: the glass is painted in shades of sea green and bright blue. When the light hits it, even Kyouko has to admit it looks pretty.
She knows, of course, that Sayaka is paying attention to what she's doing. She's not particularly subtle about it, after all.] This one's not bad.
no subject
You think so? [ It's obvious Kyouko's caught on to her watching, so just ignoring her won't do any good. Even if she doesn't say it, Sayaka has to agree this time - she's a fan of the colour, of course, but the glass would look stylish regardless.
She needs a moment or two to come up with her own choice, but soon enough she finds two that get her attention: one similar to that in Kyouko's hands, if darker and slightly flawed, and another with shades of pink and red running though it. It vaguely reminds her of Madoka, and she smiles a little. ] These are pretty nice, too. Maybe I'll get both of them.
no subject
[She shuffles through the lightcatchers with a critical, studious eye, appearing to mentally dismiss one after the other, and then she stops her searching. A yellow lightcatcher, made with frosted glass, is carefully pulled out. It's made with a more careful hand than the others, and she's gentle with it as she holds it up to the light.] What do you think of this one?
no subject
... It's really nice. [ Understatement. ] I didn't expect you to find something like that.
[ tbh she mostly expected her to just grab the first one she saw and call it a day, proving a point or not. ]
no subject
I got a favor to ask.
no subject
What is it? [ If the answer is 'carry this around while i eat', there will be blood. ]
no subject
Give that thing to Mami. [She rubs the back of her neck with her free hand, and puts on her best scowl.] But don't tell her you got it from me, all right?
