In its prime, the study, boasting of a selection of actually printed books and rich, polished oak desks, was austere and quite a draw to the wealthy patrons of the establishment. While the valiant cleaning crew had done what they could from the warp of cold, bite of vermin and the simple passage of neglect, the room only clings to its fancy dress of ages past.

Still. It had books and paper, two things Rufus Barma took comfort in. Also, it was close to the heating ducts and far from the remaining colonies of aggressive penguins... Probably.

"I trust thine journey were a safe one."

[Well, Mister Break did seem displeased by his choice. And that is why he cannot outright deny Barma's accusation. Still, he can offer him an explanation of sorts.]

Please, do not blame him, sir. Certain private affairs are mine to guard, regardless of company or circumstances.

May I ask why you do not call Mister Break by his name?

[Hatter, he knows, is the name of Break's chain.]

The man had deep investment, and little guard when it was pressed at. But the benefit of pushing Break seemed scant at the risk of this tenuous alliance with the Hatter and the Vessalius child.]
