[Jesse might be the only one who finds Exsilium's current state beautiful rather than desolate and depressing. For more reasons than one, if given the choice between here and home, he'd choose here without hesitation. The snow and the chill do nothing to deter him from taking long walks. For as long as he can physically stand it, he prefers the cold over being confined inside four walls.

So he walks. Every day, without any particular destination, without anything else to occupy him. The concerns of the Initiative and the Transports are no longer his own. Whatever they're up to, they mean little to him. He's still got enough stolen Russian gold to pay for whatever he needs without having to work, so that's how he's choosing to live for as long as he's able. His time is spent doing whatever he wants to do, and at the moment, what he wants to do is wander.

Freedom: that's what this is about. No one is ever going to make him do anything ever again.]

she heaves a sigh, then lifts a hand to rub at her face]

[she peeks out between her fingers, then heaves another sigh, this one far more tired-sounding]

I was told I should stay away from you.

[He nods, unsurprised.]

I'll really leave you alone, then.

[He's already turning to walk away, in fact. No need to tell him twice.]

What? Jesse, no—

[she takes a few steps to catch up with him] I would have said "leave me alone" if that is what I meant.

[He stops when she starts to chase him, glancing back to her.]

They're probably right, you know.

Oh, I'm sure they are.

[she won't argue that]

How come you're not listening to 'em?

[she shrugs a shoulder, looking away]

I don't know. I was going to, honestly.

It's no good, hanging around the people who hurt you.

When has that ever stopped me.

[it comes out deadpanned] Unless you've reason to hurt me again. I may have to retaliate this time.

I don't. And I won't. But there's no reason to believe me, either.

[she frowns for a moment, then looks right at Jesse]

I would certainly hope you are telling the truth.

I am. Just don't know why you'd think so.

Perhaps I am giving you a second chance.

[a pause, and then as though she's speaking of the weather:]

And that I will not hesitate if you prove you are lying this time.

[He nods, giving her a little smile.]

[she makes a face at the thanks]

Not particularly, no. [she shrugs a shoulder] I am rather bad at accepting it.
