He tries to pinpoint the source of the noise, and quietly raises a hand without speaking to wordlessly tell Barnaby to HOLD ON.
Also did he just hear that. Listen. ]
no subject
He sure hears that, so he nods slightly at Adam and waits to see if any other noises are made - or if they can catch a glimpse of something. He's tempted to activate his Hundred Power, but if there's something there, then it's all the better to wait until he'll need it. ]

they're coming to kill me, he thinks. because of what happened. it's not my blood, it's not...]

rooftop showdownYeah, Adam had a feeling they hadn't been careful enough about this whole affair, but that's not something he's gonna think about now.
So Adam's gonna dodge that, instinctively-- by jumping to the side and, incidentally, off the roof, and this happens. And because it's always better to be safe than sorry, he activates the stun wave upon impact, hoping it hits whatever was just hurling that shit at them. ]
no subject
Five minutes, then. ]
no subject
NROH–! [blind, the lance sails without much precision as he staggers backward, tripping over himself.]
no subject
He's audibly unsheathing one of his blades now--means that it extends right from his arm, but he chooses to keep his distance for now, because he has no fucking idea what they are even dealing with here. it's definitely got to be their culprit, though.
also damn, he's really quite glad he's not alone right now, something that occurs to him when he notices Barnaby joining him seconds later.
--sounds like something being dropped and clattering to the ground. Adam instinctively follows that noise--might be a weapon--while quite loudly but moderately calmly demanding,]
Step into the light, and show yourself. Slowly.
[ hey no on can blame him for not trying to negotiatiate without sharp pointy things, at first. ]
no subject
Careful.
[ He says it softly enough that he can hope it doesn't carry to whomever's in the darkness, keeping his eyes trained in the direction of the sounds. Then, louder: ]
We're not here to hurt you. As long as you cooperate and explain your situation, you don't have anything to worry about.
[ He's all too reminded of rogue NEXTs he's seen, people who'd just discovered their powers or got discriminated against so much that they snapped, too angry and afraid of both other people and themselves. ]
no subject
the sound of metal in motion and the footsteps drawing near make him shudder, panic gripping him tighter and tighter.]
Gyoh–!
no subject
[ Yeah that can't really be counted as an answer, as unintelligible as it is. Doesn't sound too friendly, though.
What is this...?
Adam really doesn't want to repeat himself. Maybe it's best they just subdue it and figure shit out later? As long as there won't be more victims. By now, Adam has picked up the lance. ]
Can you knock it out?
[ directed at Barnaby, obviously. ] I don't have my stun gun with me.
no subject
He listens for words, tone, anything, but it's hard to make anything out, much less any kind of agreement. The lance in Adam's hand only serves to drive that point home, and he nods. ]
If necessary.
[ That said, he goes ahead and takes a few steps forward, still emitting that blue glow, to close in. ]
no subject
but it's what he deserves.
but he doesn't want to die.
the closest footfall sounds like a thunderclap in his ear, sparking an overly violent response: he screams, launching lances – two, one per hand – ahead of him, the force of which pushes him, heels skidding, backward and further into the dark.]
no subject
And Adam--he has his blades, but he would rather avoid any serious injury here. on either side. ]
Knock it out.
[ whoa sounding rather bossy here, Adam. ]
no subject
If he gets close enough, he'll go for a high kick, trying to knock out by a strike to the head. ]
no subject
it hurts. why're they hurting him. glowing – power...monsters.
his breath stops short as his body begins to tense up in his place, feeling his lungs and veins burn.]
no subject
would be easier if they were out cold already, though.
so now Adam will approach himself -- still warily, but quickly, and Martin will be getting a faceful of blade that'll hopefully stop him from moving too much. ]
Gonna be reasonable now?
no subject
(See, he wonders, if this is the person - the thing - whoever did all that damage to the car, then where's that power now?) ]
no subject
why–?!
another beat. the drumming in his ears gets heavier. fear begins to wash into anger, his mouth tugging, exposing those growing, sharpened teeth.]
no subject
[ that doesn't look good, and Adam is more than tempted to take a step back. Several steps, in fact; he's had to deal with heavily augmented humans before but this is entirely new and such an unknown factor. ]
Can you even talk?
[ good thing he has Barnaby right next to him because fuck he's actually a little nervous here, not that it shows. ]
no subject
He tenses, readying his stance to spring into action if necessary. His Hundred Power's still active, so he's not worried about having the speed or strength should it come to a fight, but there's still the time limit to consider. ]
no subject
glowing guy.
monster.
Martin's muscles coil, and he springs, launching himself at Barnaby, claws and teeth bared.]
no subject
[ yeah well his intimidation tactic didn't turn out to be very effective, it looks like. does he really have no choice but to drive those ceramic blades through that boy--
either way, he hopes you're prepared to deal with this, Barnaby. ]
no subject
no subject
really, two birds, one stone: in launching that lance, Martin is pushed further away, while giving malicious parts of him the satisfaction of at least trying to skewer something as he escapes.
but he isn't wasting time to find out; he's more scared than anything, and flee takes the forefront.
and so he does.]
no subject
[ Adam's reflexes are augmented, and he's used to dealing with people that are a little more than human, but this is still something else. He doesn't even think about going after Martin; right now he's just focused on keeping the damage as minimal as possible.
Again, on all sides. So he's going to play the hero here by instinctively pushing against Barnaby to get them both out of the line of fire, and that seems to work, for the most part. Nobody's skewered--but the lance does graze one of Adam's mechanical arms and then his waist.
The latter is a little bit painful, and the damage registers immediately and is displayed for him. ]
Shit--
[ So now all that's left to do is watch the boy flee and hold his side. ]
