if you let me go, i'm running fast.
Date & Time: forward-dated to late september.
Location: just outside the hold, later ... wherever they decide to run
Characters: natasha romanoff (
chelicerata) & roslyn small (
boughtabookstore)
Summary:badass chicks natasha and roslyn run into each other when going for morning jogs. aw yiss.
Warnings: none.
[ The primary reason Natasha goes jogging along the perimeter every morning is that she needs an outlet for excess energy, to stay in shape, but there's also that each time she does, she learns the layout of the town a little better. Her feet become more and more familiar with the roads, she finds out which natives are the early birds, which people she'll see on a consistent basis and those with a less strict schedule. Alternatively, no schedule at all. She knows for a fact that Special Agent Roslyn Small is a morning person who prefers to leave for a run around the same time Natasha does herself, and it's not at all her first time coming across her within the Hold, ready to head out.
She's never introduced herself nor been offered a name from the woman; the reason she knows anything about her at all is because she's more than decent at hacking and from studying her on occasion from a bit of distance. She isn't about to let this be known, however -- the way she meets her gaze upon approaching is the way you meet a complete stranger's, and after filling her water bottle and putting it away for her return, she says, ]
The path by the beach is nice even on cloudier days.

[ She has walked the streets here in the Exsilium enough times to know the layout of the city and most of what lies within its limits, but for safety reasons and part necessity that comes with routine rather than curiosity of any kind. Days pass slowly, and spending time in such a limited space (the Hold, the town surrounded by nothing but ruins and wasteland) is bound to make even the most patient of people restless. For someone who's used to being undercover for longer periods of time, it's not a difficult task to await instructions or new objectives, but the monotony is definitely beginning to get to Natasha, too.
She takes out her pent up energy and slight frustration with that in the training hall, on dummies and punching bags and occasionally, with sparring partners. The latter brings her more satisfaction than the former, leaves her bruised and with an exhaustion in her muscles and bones she doesn't sleep as well without, but beggars can't be choosers. ]
If it's anything to go by, it doesn't look like either of us are leaving any time soon.
[ there's no telling whether it's because they're simply unlucky, or because the Initiative has grown particularly fond of them. ]

[ Which has gotten tiring, really. At first she pushed to aid newcomers, try to get them the information they would need, get them into a position where hopefully they could help. As time went that petered out. Now when she looks at the network she sighs and frowns and leaves that to other, more hopeful people.
The monotony is wearing. She takes it out in similar methods to Natasha, though more infrequently these days as she's taken to hiking solo and exploring the rest of the area. ]
That seems to be the pattern so far. Once someone's been here a few months, it seems they're much less likely to leave. I suppose the Iniatiative's made up their minds by then.
