[OPEN] DEFENSE MEETING

[uncalled_for]

Date & Time: Five days after the completion of the bombing event. Starting early morning.
Location: Whatever area is decently clear of debris.
Characters: Anyone, whether it was previously arranged with Fiona, someone else did the convincing, or they just happen to be around the cleared area at the right time.
Summary: First “Defense” Group Meeting. Some chatting, some sparring, a little showing off, and everything in between.
Warnings: Violence and swearing, I guarantee it.


[When most have gathered Fiona will find some small piles of debris to climb on so she can at least be eye level with everyone else. It’s not the biggest of groups but it will hardly do if no one can see whoever is speaking. She’ll tap her staff to get some attention.]

Thank you all for coming and taking an interest. I’m Fiona, the one who spoke on the network before. Sorry there was a delay but I appreciate everyone coming nonetheless. [Detecting a little anger here…]

If what’s happened this past week has proved anything, it’s proved we need to work together and defend ourselves and each other. Those bastards aren’t going to help us no matter what lies they feed us. They can’t defend us, they have proven that again and again. They say they’re glad we survived, but how many of us didn’t make it through this last endeavor? We’re dealing with complete fools and we have only ourselves to rely on. So we need to find a way to help each other. You don’t have to agree with all of my opinions, but at least stay long enough to try and see if this will work.

[She’ll take a deep breath] This is only our first meeting, none of us really know each other or what each other is capable of. If we actually intend to defend each other then that is the first thing we need to fix. Use this meeting time to get to know the person next to you and what they’re capable of. And if you can fight then show everyone else what you’ve got. [She’ll hold up her hand and produce a tiny ball of fire, whirl it around a moment and wink it out as quickly as she made it.] Lets not be caught off-guard by those bastards again.

[And then she'll start hopping off the debris. Ah, wait. Almost forgot something.] Thank you.


[OOC: Behold the tiny organization abilities. All right so, here’s how I’m thinking this can roll. We’ve got a little fighting and a little chatting for threads. If conversation leads to battle you are welcome to keep it to the talking thread, just maybe tack it into the subject line “Chat -> Fighting” or hop to the Battle thread! Feel free to jump in as you please, opened, closed, whatever. This is a fantastic chance for CR, spoil it rotten! And thanks for being patient with me despite the OOC delays. :)

Edit: Okay so. People are on hiatus and stuff and that's okay. If your character would happen to be here, but you just can't toss them in, try putting down a placeholder reply or something. I am gonna be doing a headcount from the tags list when this wraps up so leader picking later on is easier to handle. :)]

[ He won't be out of sight really, but somewhere towards the back. He'll speak up if addressed, but mostly he's here to observe. ]

[Galadriel had much the same thoughts. She's been quiet, for the most part, but she picks this moment to speak up.]

[ He looks up at the woman and whoa shit it's galadriel notices (a little uncharacteristically, for him) that there's something quite striking about her possibly because she's galadriel ]

Yes. But there are ways to use that to our advantage.

[ He doesn't completely agree with Fiona's sentiments, but greater self-sufficiency and people working together can only be to their advantage. Plus, it never hurts to know what everyone else is thinking and planning. ]

That I do not doubt. [A little smile. She really hasn't been here long enough to know much, in all honesty. But she's not inclined to trust any group that took her from her people.]

You are, like me, more inclined to watch than to demonstrate, I take it. [She's certainly not weaponless. The sword at her side makes that obvious, even if her more dangerous weapons are not so tangible.]

[ He notices the blade and how he might look next to that, completely weaponless as he is. It was certainly enough to draw questions during the bombings, especially with how often he went back up to the surface. ]

I'd rather see what everyone's capable of, though I don't mind demonstrating.

[ Aaand he doesn't want to needlessly burn up his power for another hour. ]

Even with as long as I've been here, I don't know many of these people personally.

[She's curious, but she's not asking questions. Yet.]

May I ask how long that is? I arrived only recently. [Right in time for the bombings. Lucky her.]

A little more than two months now. [ He offers her a slightly wry look. ] It wasn't very pleasant even before, but it wasn't this bad.

[A dry little laugh] How kind of them to wait for me.

In any case, I'm glad you seem to be doing alright - even in spite of the circumstances.

[She's really not surprised he's there, though she can't say he's not pleased.]

More work to put on your plate?

[It's a faint tease, obvious by the faint smile she has.]

[ He doesn't smile, but there's something a little relaxed in his tone and posture in her presence. ]

[Too much to clean up. She was only grateful that her apartment wasn't damaged in the aftermath, not that it meant much.]

What do you think of all of this?

[ He raises his eyebrows a little bit as he answers. ]

I think extreme circumstances breed strong opinions.

[ Not that he's any different. ]

[She frowns.]

It can also breed fear and uncertainty. Many will hesitate.

As well as recklessness. It seems hard to tell which will predominate.

[ Again not that he is in any way one to talk. He sounds impassive enough, though. ]

[She glances around and shrugs.]

From the group here, I imagine we'll have some clearheaded individuals. The rest of the populace will be hard to tell.

[ Barnaby might notice Edgeworth casting him a few furtive glances while he's in conversation with other people, but Edgeworth does eventually make his way over, awkwardly standing beside the other man, his hands in his pockets. When he speaks, his voice is quiet. ]

Brooks. About the other week... [ He pauses there, hoping that Barnaby is quick enough to intuit his meaning. ]

[ He notices, and so he's not at all surprised when Edgeworth finally does approach him. He'll allow him to speak first, eyebrows slightly raised as an opening. The other man's tone and demeanor are enough to tip Barnaby off to what he may be referring to. ]

I was only doing my job.

[ and so there's no need for thanks or apologies or anything like that. ]

[ Well, then. There's no need for any further discussion of that particularly embarrassing matter. Edgeworth gives a curt nod in acknowledgement of Barnaby's explanation, then changes the topic. ]

Right. So. [ He jerks his head back towards the small group of amassed people. ] What do you think of all this?

It's been very informative.

[ He sounds almost bored honestly. Condescending, for sure; while he agrees with assembling and people learning to defend themselves and each other, he's not sure about going about it like this. ]

[ He picks up on a bit of that tone, and raises an eyebrow. ]

Frankly - while I can understand feeling strongly after recent events, barreling into anything angrily isn't going to get us very far.

[ Edgeworth nods. ] I would agree, but they do have a point: it will be difficult to organize anything without keeping lines of communication open. [ That is to say, he appreciates their goals, but not their tone, nor , particularly, the way they're choosing to go about things. ]

That's very true, of course. As for the rest, however...
