[OPEN] DEFENSE MEETING

Date & Time: Five days after the completion of the bombing event. Starting early morning.
Location: Whatever area is decently clear of debris.
Characters: Anyone, whether it was previously arranged with Fiona, someone else did the convincing, or they just happen to be around the cleared area at the right time.
Summary: First “Defense” Group Meeting. Some chatting, some sparring, a little showing off, and everything in between.
Warnings: Violence and swearing, I guarantee it.


[When most have gathered Fiona will find some small piles of debris to climb on so she can at least be eye level with everyone else. It’s not the biggest of groups but it will hardly do if no one can see whoever is speaking. She’ll tap her staff to get some attention.]

Thank you all for coming and taking an interest. I’m Fiona, the one who spoke on the network before. Sorry there was a delay but I appreciate everyone coming nonetheless. [Detecting a little anger here…]

If what’s happened this past week has proved anything, it’s proved we need to work together and defend ourselves and each other. Those bastards aren’t going to help us no matter what lies they feed us. They can’t defend us, they have proven that again and again. They say they’re glad we survived, but how many of us didn’t make it through this last endeavor? We’re dealing with complete fools and we have only ourselves to rely on. So we need to find a way to help each other. You don’t have to agree with all of my opinions, but at least stay long enough to try and see if this will work.

[She’ll take a deep breath] This is only our first meeting, none of us really know each other or what each other is capable of. If we actually intend to defend each other then that is the first thing we need to fix. Use this meeting time to get to know the person next to you and what they’re capable of. And if you can fight then show everyone else what you’ve got. [She’ll hold up her hand and produce a tiny ball of fire, whirl it around a moment and wink it out as quickly as she made it.] Lets not be caught off-guard by those bastards again.

[And then she'll start hopping off the debris. Ah, wait. Almost forgot something.] Thank you.


[OOC: Behold the tiny organization abilities. All right so, here’s how I’m thinking this can roll. We’ve got a little fighting and a little chatting for threads. If conversation leads to battle you are welcome to keep it to the talking thread, just maybe tack it into the subject line “Chat -> Fighting” or hop to the Battle thread! Feel free to jump in as you please, opened, closed, whatever. This is a fantastic chance for CR, spoil it rotten! And thanks for being patient with me despite the OOC delays. :)

Edit: Okay so. People are on hiatus and stuff and that's okay. If your character would happen to be here, but you just can't toss them in, try putting down a placeholder reply or something. I am gonna be doing a headcount from the tags list when this wraps up so leader picking later on is easier to handle. :)]

Before the meeting

[He arrives at least a half hour early and looks for her. Their last conversation was less than comfortable. Taking a deep breath, he sets that aside. She won't be at her best and he won't either if they dredge that up now. When he approaches, he's all business.]

I've spread the word as much as I could. People are still a little preoccupied with getting this mess cleaned up. It's a good place to start. Is there anything specific that you need me to do today?

[You'd be surprised how glad she is to see you, Duncan. She really wasn't expecting you to come after that bailout. But she's a little too occupied to be that outwardly happy. Instead she'll just shrug to the question.]

Keep an eye on others, get to know them, if we have a large enough group I won't be able to greet and speak with everyone. And I'm sure not all of them will be here for honest reasons either.

I've thought the same. Have you noticed any Initiative loyalists on that "network" thing they speak of? We'll have to watch for that. Infiltrators.

[He cocks a brow, the expression wry.]

It was a lot easier when our main enemies looked dead and smelled worse. This?

[He shrugs and shakes his head.]

None quite so open about it, no. There are some who don't seem to care what the Initiative does to them and there are others who may only be here for the sake of more chances to kill. Before the explosions they said things had been compromised, but I had never seen anything beforehand to demonstrate that.

[Sigh]

Just be wary. If someone like that slips in now, it will be harder to root them out later.

[He nods thoughtfully.] If they were any good at their jobs, you wouldn't have. That's the idea.

[He looks off toward a couple of people approaching and back to her.]

It's the latter sort I'm more worried about, those in it for the mayhem. At the moment I don't think we can afford to be too choosy, but as you say. We'll keep an eye out.

Certainly not the most comforting idea.

[He nods.]

I'll do that. Is there anything in particular that's a hard no for you when it comes to a recruit? You know more about this place than I do.

They're hard enough to come by as it is.

Perhaps anyone who seems they may be willing to give away something we'd prefer kept quiet. Listening more than interacting? [She'll shrug, she's not exactly some Orlesian bard after all, she hardly has a clue as to what to look for.]

I'll trust your judgment, just do what you can.

Hmm. I don't know about that. They're going to be evaluating us as much as we are them. We're asking a lot, above and beyond what they've been told is required to get by in this place. In fact it could become much more dangerous than anything they're subjected to by this Initiative. I won't take due caution as a sign of bad faith, certainly not on its own.

[He squeezes her shoulder and steps away as others draw closer.]

You're doing good here. Trust yourself, too.

[See? No idea what she's saying.] Then maybe it's something that can't be judged in a single meeting. You obviously know what to look for more than myself.

[She'll only give a short 'hmn' to that. It's a comfort to hear, sure. But it's not going to make things so much easier.]
