[OPEN] DEFENSE MEETING

Date & Time: Five days after the completion of the bombing event. Starting early morning.
Location: Whatever area is decently clear of debris.
Characters: Anyone, whether it was previously arranged with Fiona, someone else did the convincing, or they just happen to be around the cleared area at the right time.
Summary: First “Defense” Group Meeting. Some chatting, some sparring, a little showing off, and everything in between.
Warnings: Violence and swearing, I guarantee it.

[When most have gathered Fiona will find some small piles of debris to climb on so she can at least be eye level with everyone else. It’s not the biggest of groups but it will hardly do if no one can see whoever is speaking. She’ll tap her staff to get some attention.]

Thank you all for coming and taking an interest. I’m Fiona, the one who spoke on the network before. Sorry there was a delay but I appreciate everyone coming nonetheless. [Detecting a little anger here…]

If what’s happened this past week has proved anything, it’s proved we need to work together and defend ourselves and each other. Those bastards aren’t going to help us no matter what lies they feed us. They can’t defend us, they have proven that again and again. They say they’re glad we survived, but how many of us didn’t make it through this last endeavor? We’re dealing with complete fools and we have only ourselves to rely on. So we need to find a way to help each other. You don’t have to agree with all of my opinions, but at least stay long enough to try and see if this will work.

[She’ll take a deep breath] This is only our first meeting, none of us really know each other or what each other is capable of. If we actually intend to defend each other then that is the first thing we need to fix. Use this meeting time to get to know the person next to you and what they’re capable of. And if you can fight then show everyone else what you’ve got. [She’ll hold up her hand and produce a tiny ball of fire, whirl it around a moment and wink it out as quickly as she made it.] Lets not be caught off-guard by those bastards again.

[And then she'll start hopping off the debris. Ah, wait. Almost forgot something.] Thank you.

[OOC: Behold the tiny organization abilities. All right so, here’s how I’m thinking this can roll. We’ve got a little fighting and a little chatting for threads. If conversation leads to battle you are welcome to keep it to the talking thread, just maybe tack it into the subject line “Chat -> Fighting” or hop to the Battle thread! Feel free to jump in as you please, opened, closed, whatever. This is a fantastic chance for CR, spoil it rotten! And thanks for being patient with me despite the OOC delays. :)

Edit: Okay so. People are on hiatus and stuff and that's okay. If your character would happen to be here, but you just can't toss them in, try putting down a placeholder reply or something. I am gonna be doing a headcount from the tags list when this wraps up so leader picking later on is easier to handle. :)]
ohmygodgreywardens: (that is interesting to me)

open! and will be tagging around :D

[Cailan was beginning to feel like the odd man out when it came to magic, something he'd never thought of back home. Magic just seemed to be so common-place here, and without anyone looking over his shoulder, telling him how to act, he could learn as much as he wanted to about it.

But the meeting? This was something he did well. Maybe not run meetings, but be there to help fight. To band people together, find their inner strength, and help them help each other.

And avoid some people all together, if they decide to show up. For now, he'll watch, occasionally nodding his head in agreement, and then moving on to talk to other people.]

[Elissa approaches him later once she's seen him with Duncan, greeting him with a dip of the waist. With little preamble, she takes her place at his side so that they may speak quietly and not be overheard.]

What are your thoughts on the gathering, Your Majesty?
ohmygodgreywardens: (today we fight)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-07 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[A bow in return, and she gets a small, tired smile. But he's trying. Trying with some people, anyway.]

I think it's a good idea. There are some problems, though, ones that seem fairly obvious. We have too many people saying the same thing, but in different areas.

ladyspitfire: (ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛ | no haven for this heart)

[personal profile] ladyspitfire 2012-10-08 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[She can tell. Elissa allows him to take his time.]

Problems? Like what?
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Like having a leader that the people will want to follow. [He waves a hand to Fiona.]

She has good ideas, but she doesn't exactly... inspire people.
ladyspitfire: (ʟᴏᴏᴋ | I will not be ashamed of my name)

[personal profile] ladyspitfire 2012-10-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[She frowns in Fiona's direction, then turns back to him.]

Who would you recommend, Your Majesty, if not her?
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-11 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I haven't met everyone in the port yet. [He smiles.] I'd suggest you, or perhaps Duncan, but I would be called on my obvious bias.
ladyspitfire: (ᴄᴀɴᴛ | never again)

[personal profile] ladyspitfire 2012-10-11 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm flattered at the suggestion but I think it might be best if we have a few leaders to our merry group. It would offset the division of power.
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-11 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods.] I agree. I recommended to Fiona that we could use a pair, followed by a few underlings. They'd be in charge of each group; saboteurs, fighters, healers, mages. They would report back to the ones officially in charge, but no one person can be in charge of a group as large as this one.
ladyspitfire: (ɴᴇᴜᴛʀᴀʟ | it's the hope in your eyes)

[personal profile] ladyspitfire 2012-10-12 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Her expression brightens.]

That's an excellent idea, actually.
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-12 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[It is? :D ]

I was hoping someone would agree with it!
ladyspitfire: (ᴇʜ | I'll tap into your strength)

[personal profile] ladyspitfire 2012-10-12 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wouldn't they? It's a sound plan and it ensures that everyone is comfortable.

[Those who know magic will know their own element better, after all.]

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-14 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes... but I do not have the tenure, here. I may be king, but I'm king of a land that almost no one has heard of. In speaking up my ideas, which I have, they tend to get pushed to the side.

[He smiles.] Not that I will stop. But the more I speak, and the longer I am here... will work out favorably. For everyone, I think.

[Nathaniel had been avoiding most everyone since returning to the surface after the bombing, and though he's heard that Cailan is here, he's still caught off guard when he sees the man.

It had been years since they'd seen each other last; one of the Landsmeets if Nathaniel recalled correctly, not long before he had been sent to the Free Marches. But Cailan was as recognizable as ever, with his blond hair and open smile -- he looked very much like King Maric.

When there's a lull in the discussion, Nathaniel wanders over to him.]

Hello, Cailan.

[It's easier to call him that, rather than Your Majesty. Nathaniel had been long gone to the Marches before Cailan had even been crowned. And there are already far too many monarchs here as it is.
ohmygodgreywardens: (hail new comrades-in-arms)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-10 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Talk about going back in time; Cailan has been surprised several times with the people he's seen and talked to, back home, but he hadn't met someone he's last seen several years ago.

And it takes him a moment to place him. When was the last time they'd seen each other? Before he was ever crowned king. Before his father had died, certainly. Before the Blight?]

Nathaniel. [Still, it's a warm and ready smile that he gives him, and an outstretched hand. He's genuinely happy to see him.]

It's been too long. I'd heard you were about, I was worried something had happened during the bombings.
noble_nate: (D'awww)

[personal profile] noble_nate 2012-10-17 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Nathaniel breaks out into a genuine smile, shaking Cailan's hand firmly. He'd always liked Cailan; it was difficult not to like someone so exuberant.]

Nothing dire happened to me during the bombings, thankfully. I was in the clinic for most of the time, helping Anders and the other healers.

[He smirks.]

Though it's possible I got in the way more than I helped.

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-18 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to stay away from the clinic for as long as possible. A bit of a cough wasn't going to get me down! [He laughs.]

I am glad you are well. have you been in this place for long, then? Everyone seems to have been here for...months. Many months.
noble_nate: (Smiling)

[personal profile] noble_nate 2012-10-18 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nathaniel thinks for a few moments, calculating.]

I’ve been here about eight months, I believe. It’s difficult to tell for sure since the dates in this world are so different from Thedas, but our calendars seem to be somewhat similar.

[There’s a bit of an awkward pause. He’d normally ask how Cailan is doing, but seeing as how in his timeline Cailan had been mauled to death by an ogre it seems a trite question to ask.]

You seem to have come out of the bombings unscathed as well.

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-20 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
They are close, I have noticed. But I'll count the days as best I can.

[Ah. He knows it. He knows what that hesitation is, knows what that look is. He's never going to get used to it, and his smile dims, just a little.]

Physically, yes. Emotionally, perhaps not so much. I learned many hard truths, down in those catacombs.
noble_nate: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] noble_nate 2012-10-22 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Nathaniel hesitates for a moment, but curiosity gets the better of him.]

You've spoken with Elissa, then? Or one of the others? About... what happened at Ostagar.
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-24 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives a small nod.] Yes. Both she and Duncan told me what had happened, how the kingdom has since been, ever since my... demise.

[It's a bad word for him, and it's heavy on his tongue.] And Anora, as well. I may be avoiding her, for a bit.
noble_nate: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] noble_nate 2012-10-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Nathaniel's tempted to make a quip about how avoiding Anora is a thing many people do here, but he refrains. She is his wife, after all. Maybe.]

It was a sad day when I heard about what happened. I was in the Free Marches at the time; I didn't even arrive back in Ferelden until after the Blight was over.
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks at him in surprise.]

What made you come back?
noble_nate: (Anxious)

[personal profile] noble_nate 2012-10-29 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nathaniel frowns a little; that’s a sensitive subject, even after all these years.]

My father died. I... came back to take care of things.

[Such as attempting to murder the Grey Warden who had killed his father.]
ohmygodgreywardens: (Default)

[personal profile] ohmygodgreywardens 2012-10-31 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. It must be very difficult, trying times. [He nods. He knew the feeling, of a father dying, with things left over to the son. Even if that's not quite how it is with Nate.]
