EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Date & Time: October 24 - October 31
Location: Throughout Exsilium
Characters: ALL; tag yourselves in
Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

Blaine smiles a bit, amused by the tussling he can hear going on inside the machine. Man vs Machine. Upon Gordon's release from the depths and the totally unnecessary surprise, he lifted both of his eyebrows slightly as if to call into question the extreme reaction to seeing his face. "I was curious," he answered back. More or less the truth.

You make him nervous, Blaine. There's little more to it than that. He relaxes almost immediately, frowning at his own reaction. He squints at a holoreadout nearby to cover it up.

"You surprised me. Didn't think I'd see you down here at all."

You are either bad at covering it up or Blaine is just keenly aware. Matter of fact, it is both Gordon, and the blonde is debating on just how much guff he's going to give you for it. "Oh? Was that one of the benefits you were hoping to enjoy down here?" He's smiling at him, always amused but unbothered by the unsettling effect he had on his roommate.

[He considers it a minor perk--]

First of all, I'm down here to do work. This teleporter isn't going to fix itself, you know. The company I keep along the way has no bearing on it.

[Blaine looked at the items on the table, many of which he had no idea what they did so he didn't touch.] That wasn't a no.

[He knows a speech with no answer when he hears one.] I'm not here to get in the way.
trustycrowbar: (I wonder...)

...

[He runs a hand through his hair thoughtfully and glances at the machine again. He didn't exactly mean it that way, but he's used to that.]

To tell you the truth, I could use the help. I've already spent a helluva lot of much time down here... Hand me that diagnoztic screen over there, will you? It's the silver tube on the workbench.

[A victory for civility! Or just Gordon feeling guilty, either way worked. Blaine hadn't planned on staying but now he was, he supposed. He turned and found the bench, then his eyes flitted across it before he leaned over and grabbed said silver tube. He held it out for the man to grab.] What exactly does it diagnose?
