EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

Jericho looks sadder, nodding slowly and settling his chin back on his knees. his shoulders lift and fall in an unhappy exhale.

he's really not cut out for this.]

[Aw jeez. He really wishes Dick was here... Jason glares at some point off in the distance, trying to think how comforting people about this shit works.]

Ya know. Just because you got dragged into this... It doesn't mean you're a bad person now or anything.

[his eyes turn, peering at Jason best he can without turning his head. he looks a little conflicted, dubious. it sure didn't make him a better person, now, did it?]

[ Jason doesn't have an answer for that. So instead he pushes himself back up onto his feet, bouncing just a little and turning to face Joey.]

Look, either way, getting all depressed and brooding about it isn't gonna fix anything. Believe me. You gotta find a way to deal with it instead.

[he looks over, blinking.

how?]

[He hadn't thought that far ahead, to be honest.]

How about sparring? We don't really got enough people for a full on Teen Titans style round of tag.

[he stares for a moment, turning it over in his head. giving Jason a better look, his mouth tugs faintly, dubious...he's probably a lot better, but... he half-squints. but that's what practice is for, anyway, right?

his head tilts side-to-side before he nods. alright.]

[ Jason grins and holds out his hand to give Joey a pull up.]

Hey, don't worry, I know how to go easy on beginners.

[he ducks his head a little to hide a small, brief smirk, giving himself to a nod as he takes the hand and is hoisted up. he takes a heavy breath to try and exhale all the sour feelings, nodding once more, ready to follow.]

[ Jason grins. He's still not sure about this cheering up business, but he has a course of action! Clearly the rest will be easy!

The Hold's training rooms look like they didn't take too much beating and Jason's not sure if he finds that encouraging or weirdly depressing. He steps on to one of the mats instead, stretching.]

So how much fighting did you do back in your world anyway?

[Jericho hesitates to try and scrape off dust or old dirt off the flats of his boots before, giving those mats a better look, deciding to just kick them off outright. no good slipping and flopping all over the place...

he stands, feet together and hands behind his back, clutched at the wrist as he stretches to stand on tip-toe, back arching a little. his eyebrows lift at the question, a little blink, and then a crooked smile to match the side-to-side bob of his head.

one hand lifts and gives a so-so gesture in reply. he's really not one to brag, and has no reference for how much was much. especially compared to a Robin.]
