EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Date & Time: October 24 - October 31
Location: Throughout Exsilium
Characters: ALL; tag yourselves in
Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

"Have you been getting any rest?" Once a sailor, always a sailor. Her soldiers are only at their best when they've had adequate food and rest, and to a certain extent she looks at everyone out here on this perimeter as a soldier.

"We're keeping them back well, and their perimeter is kept strong. They should be safe."

She lifts her chin at that; though more in resolution than outright defiance.

"I will rest when we have defeated these enemies."

Though really if the perimeter is holding so far, it might be more important to insure that the transporter is being seen to.

"Is it necessary to return to the perimeter?"

"Rest is necessary to defeat them," Roslyn points out. "This seems likely to continue on for days."

It's simple tactics. They'll have to cycle people in and out, hopefully with some small measure of organization. Unlikely, but something might be worked out.

"At the moment, no. I don't think so."

"In that case I have had all that I need. There are few of us and still many of the creatures."

It's maybe not strictly true, not with the way she can feel those first gnawing trickles of exhaustion weighing in a little more persistently than before. Even the stump of her arm is aching; that faint, phantom sensation of pain stretching down all the way to fingers that aren't there.

But it's a feeling. A response she can turn off until the danger to all of them has passed. She draws a little on the Force to ease the sensation and then takes a breath.

"I would be best used to replace those on the field who must rest."

"There are quite a few monsters, but there are enough of us to stem the tide."

Roslyn rolls her own shoulders, looks Tenel Ka over. She certainly seems determined, and it's not like Roslyn's actually in charge of anything, though she's been doing some attempts at coordination.

"Then carry on. But be smart about it. Rest a fair while before you are nearing collapse. We can't afford to lose people because they wouldn't take their turn in bed."

"I will not collapse," that she says firmly and without reservation. But maybe the woman is right. Maybe she's being unreasonable in her determination; putting herself and others in danger in her desire to avoid thinking about the less pleasant aspects of this mission.

She eyes the woman's body language, then reaches into a pouch on her belt for a small packet of food.

"I will rest a few moments if you are able to maintain this patrol alone until I return."

"I will trust that you know yourself well enough not to." But there, that seems good. And Roslyn hasn't been out too long since her last few hours nap and quick meal.

Tenel Ka looks like someone who's good to have on their side. She'll count getting her to rest a little bit as a victory.

"I can handle it. Rest well."
