EVENT: HERE THERE BE MONSTERS

Summary: The Transports return from their mission to find the island crawling with monsters.
Warnings: Violence, possibly injuries (notify a mod if there's cause to add a particular warning!)

The Transports return from their mission to Medieval Russia, but the Initiative Hold is eerily deserted. Normally, their would be a number of Initiative personnel prepared to meet the Transports at the end of their mission for debriefing.

Instead, there is only silence.

That is, until a distant thumping sound can be heard. It is growing closer, and suddenly the beast is bursting into the room. It lets out a roar and charges. Within minutes, it is easily defeated, but damage has already been done -- it collided with the Transporter machine, which is now making a low fizzling sound and lets off a couple sparks. The commotion is enough to draw the attention of the few remaining Initiative personnel who still inhabit the Hold, who arrive immediately afterwards. They are able to tell the Transports two things: that the machine is broken and currently unable to sent anyone back in time, and that the island has been overrun with aggressive, mutated beasts sent by the United Earth. They have been under siege for months, with the island's population reduced to a mere fraction of what it had once been.

[Kanji has never been good at doing what's best for him. In spite of the earlier argument, he's out and about. Just patrolling the edges, he tells himself. What if something gets in?

And then he sees something unexpected. Is that--? What the hell, he's never seen one like it. It's only when he gets closer that he recognizes the boy from he hallways.

Kanji is rushing partly to help and partly to figure out what's going on.]

Hey--!

[He's already summoning, and out of the light comes Rokuten Maoh.]

[Minato is about to respond to the voice when he sees the summoning of the Persona. Out of everything he was expecting out of this place, that was probably one of the last things he'd thought he'd see. He was a Persona-user, too?]

[Questions, however, would have to come later. Right now, there was a threat to deal with in the form of a mutant currently wrestling with Messiah. Messiah breaks out of the hold and relents for a moment to allow the new Persona to have a good shot at it.]

[Kanji sends his Persona rocketing at the enemy. His physicals are powerful indeed, but he pays the price for using them. He doesn't flinch, but he's not that speedy and needs a moment to regroup.

In the moment in between the attack and the next move Kanji shoots Minato a confused look.]

How--?

[Okay, that was a good idea, getting out of the way. The mutant certainly wasn't expecting it, and gets knocked back. Messiah fades out after that, Minato needing a moment to recoup. Summoning Personas in the real world was harder than the Dark Hour. He could do it, it'd just take some getting used to.]

I could ask you the same thing. After this, though.

[He takes a breath and switches off to Orpheus Telos, bringing up his Evoker to his head and firing off a shot, following up the other attack with an Agidyne.]

Yeah. Kick ass first--

[He can't help another bout of staring when a different Persona emerges, or the sound of surprise, and it nearly gets him attacked off guard.

He manages to realize in time and while he takes the attack, it seems like he's made of sterner stuff. He manages to kick the monster away without taking horrible damage and sends his Persona forward with another Primal Force.]

If-- You-- Got healing?

Yeah, I can do that. Keep on him and I've got your back.

[It looks like he's got the whole attacking thing down for the moment, so it gives Minato time to play the support role. Another shot of the Evoker summons Orpheus once again, this time with a Diarahan for Kanji.]

[The healing makes him stand straighter and without the worry he goes full bore against the creature.]

Got it!

[He'll keep going until he gets knocked for a loop or it's down for the count.]

[As the creature wasn't expecting to fight four entities when first attacking Minato, it's caught off guard and goes down after a few hits. It tries to retaliate, of course, but with Messiah supporting, it's all futile. It goes down after a few hits.]

...That's it. You doing alright?

[Kanji straightens and lets his Persona disappear again. He's a little tired and he looks it, but smiling all the same.]

Yeah, I'm great. But... how the hell? I thought we were the only ones with Persona.

[This is obviously the most important question to ask.]

[Honestly, Minato would have asked the same thing.]

"We"? So you're not the only other one?

No, there are eight of us. An' our leader has more than one, like you do.

This is... whoa, I wonder how many others there are?

If your groups is any indication, I have no idea. My group had... [A moment as he mentally counts them] used to be ten, but now nine, although one was an android and one was a dog.

Dog, huh? We have a bear. He told us about the shadows we were fighting at first, but then he got his own Persona.

[He completely misses the 'now nine' part because of the dog being mentioned. From the way he's grinning he likes the idea of a dog with a Persona.]

So where are you guys from?

[Probably for the best. He'd rather not bring up Shinji's death.]

A talking bear? I'd be skeptical, but after what I've seen that's not that weird.

We're all from Iwatodai.

Bear suit, I guess, until he got a body in there. He's really his own thing.

[That rings a bell, but it takes him a couple moments to figure it out.]

I think we had a class trip there once! Unless... No, I think that was it.

[...That made significantly less sense, so he'll just.. Drop it for now. Figure it out later.]

Why would a school go there? I'd understand Kyoto or something, but Iwatodai?

Don't ask me. I have no idea about how they decide those things. It wasn't a bad trip or nothin' though. the school was nice, I guess, for a school.

It's a nice school, yeah, but it's got some weird teachers.

Dunno, we had some pretty weird teachers too. The ones over there didn't seem bad to me.

Definitely got to. Wouldn't make sense to have so many weird teachers otherwise.
