Location: The Initiative Hold & Courtyard.

Summary: New Transports have all arrived and have been led to a banquet room within the Hold.
Warnings: None.

You've just been hustled and bustled through mazes of information and literal, wide corridors of the Initiative Hold and you've been equipped with your weapon—be it a gun, a sword, or even your existing powers. They've handed you this light netbook and a small pouch of coins (or a debit card, if you're more inclined), and there are several Transports before and after you going through the very same motions. You can hear the Greeter's voice as she walks alongside large groups, telling them all about the history of this place and sharing with you your purpose here in a hurried and urgent tone. "You're in luck that we have enough rooms for all of you; the housing building is getting awfully full. Please, let me show you into the courtyard."

You pass what looks like huge gymnasiums, all with dummies and targets strewn and splayed around the room. Training areas. There are even classrooms, and a few small offices. You're rushed past a large library while the Greeter informs you that you can find almost all your information there, if you've got the time to look—and trust her, you'll have time. You don't spend a lot of time in the bank, and it's a bit of a blur of exchanges with more and more of these strangely-accented and oddly polite-seeming members of the Initiative.

Soon enough, you're in a massive courtyard bustling with all the other Transports. It's not exactly what you'd expect, and it looks more like barracks than anything—huge walls of concrete and stone, separating you from all of the hallways you'd just passed through. It's raining heavily, and dark clouds loom in the air, though it hasn't turned to snow. It's a chill cold, and there are shelters—long cloth hangings that extend from the walls of concrete to house you from the rain, but not enough. Most notably, the courtyard is filled with a marketplace. Even in the cold and the rain, there are several citizens seated at their covered booths and tables, bundled up against the weather. They're selling all manner of their own handmade goods and foods, and citizens and Transports alike are traveling from one small covered shop to another in search of all manner of necessities.

The Greeter's voice has become so faint now, but you swear you can make it out in the back of the crowds as she tells you, "Good luck. Be safe!"

Her voice is drowned out by the busy marketplace, though even the transactions taking place are somewhat subdued. Nobody is overly happy, really, though most citizens can be found with smiles on their faces. It doesn't seem like they're that shocked to see you, either; even if you're not bound in tattered rags and wrapped in heavy shawls as they are. You're welcome to walk up to a shop, and find yourself something to eat—hey, maybe you'll even find something akin to a raincoat. Or, you can join the others under the coverings against the walls. Where am I? What war? She was talking so fast, and it didn't all make very much sense… did anyone else catch it all?

Didn't know I was that famous.

[ It's a little toneless, the way it comes out. Really it's something you can only hear so many times in a new place filled with people he's pretty sure mostly aren't Gothamites before it starts to settle like lead. ]

[ Only even that much won't bring his dad back, will it? That part he knows firsthand. It's a reality you get used to, until eventually knowing it folds back into the fabric of what almost feels normal. But it's not as if he can explain that to this kid.

But who really wants to talk about Two-Face, anyway? ]

How long's it been since you saw the Knights play?

[pixieboots]

[ There's a long, taut moment of silence. Then he drops his eyes down from Kate's face and forces a short, stiff laugh. ]

Heh. I guess all of us consumed freaks probably look the same to you.

[gevurah]

[ She cants her head to give Dick a look. The kind that reads she's not pulling anyone's leg. ]

There's another boy and a girl.

But you're a person, too, aren't you? At least, you seem...

"It's a moving chair for people who can't use their legs to move around," Billy explained. "It can be moved by steering and pushing the wheels with your arms, or controlled with buttons. I'm trying to build a button-controlled one."

He beckoned her to the staircase. "Oh, you're moving into our apartment! You're lucky, it's just on the second floor. We don't have to walk too far to get to our housing."

Uh.. both. We hatch as grubs, then pupate into trolls, like I am now. Only not half robot.

[It's over and done with in not much time at all, and most people seem content to ignore the weird new arrivals.]

Well, let's get you outta this rain. You get a room assignment yet?

There's no girl Robin. [ The word girl comes loaded with a healthy side of disdain. Maybe if he repeats it enough times he can turn back the clock to six hours ago when everything still made sense. ]

There's just one, and that's me.

[maiinframe]

[He pauses for a long time before responding to that, a shadow passing over his face before he responds.]

No.

[That's all the answer he gives before continuing to float away.]

[He stops immediately, floating in place and waiting patiently for her to go ahead of him. He knows where he's going, but if she wants to lead the way, he won't protest.]

No.

[He cuts her off, and looks almost fearful as he explains.]

System ith not a troll, or a person, or any entity beyond a system. All hail the Empire.

[Well, it was worth a shot. Especially if at least it planted the idea in his stubborn head.

She'll just continue wandering after him. This is going to be a long day.]

[ Mithos found it pretty uncomfortable when the demon came closer to examine him. But he didn't say anything until Sesshoumaru spoke up again. ]

Perhaps ... it is not a race that can be found in your world?

[ That's possible, right? With so many other worlds here maybe not all of them have elves, and in turn, half-elves. ]

Hmm. Which is apparently far more prevalent than my own world indicated. Although we certainly weren't lacking in weird technology...

Would you prefer to go back there?

[Ophelia looks skeptical, but shrugs after a moment.]

If you say so. I guess we aren't all cursed to wear our talents on our sleeves.

[Not that she thinks it's much of a curse, from her attitude. She rather enjoys freaking people out looking strange.]

Sorry, kid.

[ He doesn't jump in with, "I know how you feel." But he's spent time in other people's masks. ]

[ Has he forgotten he's talking to a woman? She arches eyebrow, wondering what could be his problem with a girl Robin. ]

There is.

She's from another universe, I'm sure of it.

I don't-- _{( She cuts herself off, there, and nods. )}

I'll believe that when I- when I see it firsthand. [ Hearing it the first time was like a fist to the stomach, now hearing it again is just making him angry. ]

Ask Batman when he shows.

[ It's not quite a confirmation, but the sting is there anyway. He shrugs his shoulders and studies the ground instead. ]

Guess I don't need to ask whether you know Gotham City or not. [ But he will anyway. ]

If he shows, Robin.

Nah. I've never been.

[ God, why did this place pull in kids in the first place? No one needs to feel that lonely this young. ]
