MISSION: GET TO ZE CHOPPA

Summary: All transports are sent back to Uruguay to download a self-aware AI before it gets bombed out of existence by an early incarnation of the UE. Time distortion effects will be set right either on the way there or on the way back, according to player choice.
Warnings: violence, action movie tension, 3 terabytes of foot fetish porn.

The Transporter drops the entire transport population into what will quickly be established as Home Base, a mile from the vast, sprawling facility that is Uruguay's National Defense HQ. The low roar of helidrones moving above is pervasive, but the black ships can only be glimpsed here and there through the thick cover of trees overhead. If you keep calm and quiet, it's likely you won't be spotted. It's the UND HQ their attention is on, after all.

The population is quickly sorted by attending Initiate employees according to who volunteers to fight and who volunteers to protect, along with those with enough skill to access the computers, and those with enough skill to get them there. The fighters move out first, off to intercept the early UE's ships and ground troops, and to draw the automated defense systems of the facility alike. They'll be in a crossfire, and neither side will be happy to see them there.

The techies and their escorts are sent out far more quietly, in groups of three. Their task is to sneak past the front lines and into the facility itself. There might be alarms and automated defense drones, so those escorts may well be called on to earn their keep. The Initiative can't give any information about which building will house the AI's mainframe, that information was long since lost to history. All they can do is send out enough people to hope that one of them manages to find it.

And remember — as soon as the UE troops withdraw, there will only be minutes until the bomb drops. Everyone would do well to work fast.

[Sheryl is in the middle of escorting a few children inside the base, gentle hushes and reassuring words out of her lips meant to calm them down. If she can get them to safety, away from the tense battle close by, then she'll sigh in relief. The last thing she wants is for anyone to get hurt, after all.

As she's done with her task, exhaling deeply with a sweep of her hand on her forehead, she cranes her head to peer at the young boy crouched down and huddled away from view. For a moment, she blinks, thinking that she might've seen him somewhere (probably at the makeshift daycare center when she was still a child). Eventually, she approaches him quietly, soft and slow footsteps making their way towards Riku.]

Shouldn't you be with the other kids?

[Once at a reasonable distance, Sheryl drops down to the boy's eye level, concern over her face.]

[ knees against his chest and eyes down on the ground, he doesn't notice Sheryl until her shadow casts over him, and he shrinks a bit. ]

I don't wanna be inside. I wanna be able to see everyone.

[She frowns in worry at the response, resting her hands on her knees with her gaze still on him.]

But you shouldn't stay outside, you know. It's dangerous out there with the fighting going on.

['Also you'll get hurt out there' is what she's about to say. Her words remain soft, adding some encouragement to them.]

Your friends might be in the base right about now.

[ he sinks a little closer to himself. ]

I don't have any friends here. They're all at home. [ and he knows her train of thought; he's seen his mother follow it a thousand times. ] So it doesn't really matter if I get hurt.

Ah... I'm sorry.

[What Riku says catches her attention immediately, and she gasps quietly with a shake of her head.]

What do you mean it doesn't matter? Of course it does!

But no one's gonna miss me, here! Everyone's back home. It doesn't matter if I get hurt 'cause no one really knows me. So they don't care.

[galactically]

[... Ouch. Her heart instantly tugs at the outburst.]

That's not true! There are people over here who refuse to let children like you get hurt! [She shakes her head again with an insistent glance.] It doesn't matter if you're known or not, I wouldn't want you to die outside!
