Location: Bars, training room, police headquarters, assorted other locations of your choosing.
Characters: Roslyn Small (boughtabookstore) and YOU (aka OPEN)
Summary: Roslyn is out and doing, well, about the usual. But running into people at the same time. Whatever format you want, if one of the given options doesn't work for you feel free to come up with one that does.
Warnings: Most likely not any, will change if that changes.

one. bar hopping.

[ She's actually in bars a great deal less these days - more commitments, both to her job and to her friends (and isn't that a change from a year ago), but she's always found that people in bars can be excellent sources of information and she still does enjoy alcohol, though her drinking right now is a great deal more in moderation.

It's still fairly easy to find her in one of her favorite bars at night, talking to the natives or to friends or simply sitting in a corner by herself and watching. ]

two. respectable citizen (??).

[ During the weekdays during normal work hours most of her time is spent either at the station working on paperwork or out on the streets looking for things that will then give her more paperwork to do. She never was a beat cop of any sort, and though strictly speaking that isn't her designation she can't take inactivity while working enough to let her stay stationary. It's interesting. When she was an agent they never stayed long in one place on a case. Certainly not long enough to gain contacts or really get to know a place.

She has to say she likes it. It's good to have a purpose again, and it's interesting to be - for lack of a better word - engaged in the place she now lives in. ]

three. also about those missions.

[ She goes to the mandatory training sessions, but as well as that she tends to also show up at the training hall early in the mornings before work to put in a workout routine, make sure she's staying fit and prepared for anything. On the weekends she comes in for a slightly longer time, works on her target shooting and sometimes looks for someone to do hand to hand with.

The missions are unpredictable and frequently dangerous, and she'd like to ensure that she's always ready. ]

[Blue's head turns, sensing a familiar "voice," as it were, mulling about on her way. from where he sits, that isolated bench near the street, he watches, waiting for her to be within earshot.]

Roslyn. [hello.] You're searching for something? [or looking for someone? that sense of alertness, expectation, of being involved in her task...it was not completely clear to him.]

[ She changes her course when he speaks, moving towards him and his seat on the bench. ]

You could say that. I'm doing my job, which is searching for trouble. [ Of a sort, anyways. She tilts her head. ] It's been a little while.

[has it? his head lifts a little more at that, plainly showing the fact of the matter: he hasn't thought well on the passage of time lately, and not at all in her regard.]

Your job? Is this something Initiative has asked of you?

[ Nash is a curious one: he doesn't show up to the mandatory sessions. If he's there, he's trying his hardest not to do anything. He has a lot of practice with that, so he's usually very successful.

But he goes to the training facilities with regularity otherwise. Not ever at the same time: if he's in Thursday morning he'll go next on Sunday afternoon. If he's trying to figure out the weight machine one day, he'll try swimming the next. He hates to be predictable.

Today he's practicing with knives, throwing them at wooden blocks and trying to make them stick. (Maybe because Collette had asked.)

When there's no one around to talk to or perform for, his whole demeanor changes. Nash isn't perfectly silent, and he gets frustrated when he misses. But he knows what he's doing, and knows he isn't half-bad at doing it. ]

[ She's noted the times his appearances coincide with when she's in the gym, though she is rarely one to approach others. But her curiosity has built over time, wondering as to whether there is a specific reason he staggers both his times and what he works on, wondering as to why he shows at least passable proficiency in such varying things.

So today she wanders over to where he's working with the knives, tilting her head. ]

You're working hard at that.

[ His voice is blank, but pleasant. ]

If I am, I'm doing it wrong.

[ He has one knife left to throw before he goes to fetch the lot, but he's lost his rhythm. ]

[ Sorry, one person here hasn't kicked their alcohol habit yet, and it's Bariyan. The bars he frequents shift and change unpredictably over time, but there's a few that he makes a point of hitting up every now and then -- this is one of them. He's pleasantly surprised to see Roslyn tonight, and shows it by visibly brightening up and waving at her corner to get her attention.

He orders and gets his drink before he goes to actually join Ros, though. ]

Hey, Ros. I don't see you out and around as much anymore. [ THE BARS, HE MEANS. ]

[ 'Kicked' might possibly be the wrong descriptor of how she approaches alcohol these days. Perhaps a more accurate one would be 'is able to restrain herself in the face of responsibility'. Were she to not have a job tomorrow, it's entirely likely she'd simply slide directly back into former habits. But tonight she still has a job tomorrow, so there's only one empty glass in front of her and another one in her hand as she people watches.

She's equally pleased to see him, judging by the look on her face, and she lifts her hand back at him and waits for him to join her. ]

The job's been taking up my time. How have you been?

[ He sits down beside her, leaning back in his chair and surveying the rest of the establishment. ]

I've been well. Or as well as I can be, anyway. [ The result of the last mission was pretty miserable, but that's over with now. ] How is the job, by the way?

[Ever the pub crawler, Chloe's most at home when she's holed up in the corner of a dark, dingy bar, running the usual expenses and profits. It's been a long, long time since she's caught Ros in her neck if the woods-- timing, maybe, or intentional absence, she's not entirely sure-- but she doesn't miss an opportunity to climb to her feet and slink on over to say hello to an old friend.]

Well, haven't caught sight of you in a while, darling.

[ Timing, almost entirely. She wouldn't go out of her way to avoid Chloe - in fact, the opposite is more likely, as is evident by the warmth on her face when she spots the other woman, sitting up a little straighter. ]

I've been keeping myself busy. What are you getting up to? [ Given their last big conversation in the desert it could have sounded almost accusing, but Ros just sounds interested and perhaps a touch amused. ]

[Entirely mutual as it is, Chloe gives her an affectionate nudge with her elbow, complimentary wink tacked on free of charge.]

Me? Nothing, never. Completely innocent, twenty four-seven.

[ Kate's finally made it into the bar, having to pick up her pace when the wind did the same and more rain was whipping against her face than she would have liked. She pulls the umbrella shut and steps inside, straightening herself out at the entrance of the bar when she catches sight of Roslyn by her lonesome. Her expression lights up and she raises her arm to signal her. ]

[ The response is almost immediate, both in the small smile that brightens Roslyn's face and her hand raising to signal her in return. A moment later she's standing, making her way through the people to Kate's side. ] The weather's getting worse? [ It's calm and might seem almost neutral except that there's warmth in her eyes and mouth, her posture a little more relaxed than usual. ]

Just a little wind. [ She wipes some droplets off her face with the back of her thumb carefully. ] Didn't think I'd see you here.

<sub>( Crystal isn’t used to constant training. Keeping fit and alert, and knowing how to defend herself have always been parts of her life, but she has never been a warrior. Her powers were flashy, extreme—if she trained with them, she’d end up destroying the place. So the mandatory training sessions often found her wandering from place to place, observing but not taking active part.

So today she finds herself a few feet away from Roslyn as she’s shooting. Crystal pauses, watching quietly for a moment, before nodding once in appreciation. )</sub>

[ She'd seen her come up out of the corner of her eye, so her words don't take her by surprise. First she finishes emptying her clip, and then double checks there aren't any more bullets in her gun before she lays it down and turns to look at her new visitor. ]

Thank you. It takes a great deal of practice.

[Kanaya nearly stomps her way into the training hall on Saturday, eyeshadow in hand, cold. Something bad has happened to her after coming back from her mission. She hadn't expected to have time for training when she got back. But she does. She wishes she had better things to do.

The shooting range is her destination, of course. Gun and all. Seeing Roslyn is there makes her want to try and pull herself together. She makes it all the way back up to "lemon-sucking".]

[ A nod of her head as she levels her gun, takes aim again and pulls the trigger. ]

[ The paperwork they're given on any day of the week can be a bit tedious, as it's the same thing over and over. Today is no different as Conner decides to hit up the station early on in the day. He's almost familiar with everyone working the station, everyone that comes and goes, and yet he still has to get some of the names matched to some of the faces that go past his shared office.

Speaking of sharing an office - Conner's heading in that direction now, once he's entered the station; if there's anyone shuffling papers around in there, it's a little hard to make out with his super-hearing amongst all the other noise going on in the background in the other shared offices and the main areas of the station. ]

[ There is someone inside, though she's less shuffling papers than chewing on her pen as she leans back in her chair, feet up on the desk. She's good at wording incident reports by now, but that doesn't mean it's not boring as all get-out and she doesn't find herself wanting to do anything else, including stare at the wall. Right now she's justifying it because she's thinking about an ongoing robbery case, even if she doesn't think they're likely to find this particular culprit.

She nods at Connor when he walks in. ] Good morning. Looks like a busy day. [ It doesn't actually look like a busy day at all, but her delivery is terribly deadpan. ]

[ It’s one of the few perks of being here; the unlimited time he has now for canvasing the city, learning the patterns and the shortcuts of all the people who call this place home. Today he’s perched on the edge of one of the broken-off window-sills, mostly hidden in the shadow of the wall he’s leaning on while he scans the streets below. When his eyes catch on Roslyn, that’s when they stop, momentarily. He knows her, doesn’t he? She’s a transport.

It’s not a bad memory, that conversation. Just one that left him a little unsettled; unclear for the first time about the parts of this place that do make sense. It’s that feeling that draws him closer to the edge, until finally he has to shoot out a line and cross the street to follow her.

He’ll just stay back and watch for a few blocks. See where she’s really headed. ]

[ She's just headed into a native section of the city, stopping occasionally to talk to people. It's nothing intimate or close, because Roslyn's not a person friendly enough to carry on such conversations with people on the street, but it's clear that she's been here before and knows them.

And that she's begun to glance back over her shoulder more and more regularly, a feeling of being watched creeping down her spine. ]

[He can be found in the training center at various odd hours. Sometimes late, as late as he can, and sometimes very early, though that might be on nights he hasn't bothered with sleep at all.

Whatever it is, the early morning hours will find Tyki with a lot of his lean muscle on display, going through exercises with lazy fluidity. He has been so bored here. Physicality is a small respite, but damn is he ever hungry for a job tailored for him to do...

Not that he'd tell that to anybody here. In the meantime, he's somewhat content to circulate through the other transports and prod at them. He'd spar with Roslyn, if she asked.]

[ And she does ask, one day, having seen him around a few times and appreciated that he seems to have a good sense of how to move. You can tell a lot about whether someone might make a good sparring partner by how they move. ]
