[All things considered, their lives here at Exsilium have been very peaceful. So maybe it was inevitable that something would come and ruin that peace. Kido herself can't be too worried yet until she finds out what she needs but she is definitely guarded.

...Guarded because of what Kano said but also from how worried Kano was about this. She hopes things won't be too troublesome. As long as Kano behaves it'll be fine. Probably.

She spots Jade finally and waves at him.]

Oi, Jade! We need to talk!

Huh? Yeah, sure. What's up?

[clinical]

Why do you want one?

Please don't misunderstand me. I have no problem acknowledging that I overstepped in my approach to Kano. [To say the least.] But I'm not clear as to whether you seek an apology or Kano does, and to what purpose.

[concealingeyes]

[She blinks once. Then she rubs the back of her head.]

Is it that weird...? Well, to be honest, I don't think Kano wants to deal with you ever again. You really did freak him out. It's blunt but true. Personally, I want an apology. I kind of get why you did it, I guess. That's your personality...

[She sighs. This is really weird to explain.] But I want an apology because it's better to start over with everything like that. It only works if it's sincere, though, so don't bother if you don't mean it. I'd still like to talk to you about some things sometime without having a bad taste in my mouth. Kano'd probably rather I didn't but I'm not going to say I'd stay away. You're not a threat to us, so there's nothing wrong there.

[So they'll still have to deal with Jade. It's not something he's happy about, but he knows that convincing Kido not to go through with it would be a pain. If she sees that Jade has something useful to offer to the Dan... well, he hated to admit it, but her instincts on things like these were usually right.]

... ah, would Kido mind if I added something?

[He interjects to signal that he's going to speak, not to ask for permission. He straightens up.] Well, putting my feelings like that is an exaggeration, really! If Kido still wants to talk to him--

[A split second of hesitance. He shrugs.] --then that's Kido's choice! To be honest, it doesn't matter to me, the apology or future contact. Leader knows best.

[He doesn't think an apology'll be sincere, anyway, coming from this guy.]

[clinical]

[When Kano interjects, Jade's eyes slide over to him. And he listens, and he sees.

He looks back at Kido.]

Yes, that's enough. Thank you for elaborating on your position. You have my apologies.

[Kido looks at Kano before nodding. She really does understand why Kano is put off by him but it's not like she's asking him to deal with Jade, right?]

Thanks. I accept it. [She thinks he's being sincere in his way.]

[duplicitoussight]

[He still doesn't like it. But he figures he can find a way to avoid Jade somehow, so it's... a solution, he guesses.]

All right, all right~ Now that's done, we can all head back, right?

[clinical]

One more moment of your time, Kido.

[With a dispassionate and forthright expression, he meets her eyes.]

I would also like to apologize for frightening you on our first meeting. I hope you can understand the reasons why.

[concealingeyes]

[She hesitates, then nods.]

...It's okay. You're in the military, so... you've probably been in some horrible situations. When I appeared so suddenly, your soldier training took over, right? Actually, looking back on it, the way you controlled it was pretty impressive. I'm lucky you're that good.

[It's a little embarrassing but she admires that kind of control.] ...I'm not used to dealing with people like that. I'll be more careful with my eyes.

[clinical]

[She's close. Not half-bad. So he accepts her answers.]

When you use the power you have on others, you have to accept some responsibility for the consequences. It would be unfortunate if your own abilities became a serious danger to you from careless use.




[What was that, Uncle Ben?]

[She hates hearing it, even if he's right. If something had happened to her, it would be her own carelessness. If that had happened... then what would Kano do? He'd be left alone. And the others back home, too. She isn't just taking responsibility for herself here.

So Kido sucks up her dislike of being talked to like this - even if he's being pretty good about it - and nods.]

I accept that responsibility. I decided I would accept any consequences from our actions a long time ago.

[Jade's speaking to Kido, but Kano has the uncomfortable feeling that it's somehow directed at him as well. What makes it worse is that what he's saying is right.

He claps, putting on a big smile.]

Well-spoken! Just as expected of a leader. Ah, it's good that we've all learned from this experience~

[clinical]

[Jade says like a soldier waiting for dismissal—]

Thank you for hearing my concerns, Boss.

[yes he is making fun of her again]

Geez, you aren't going to quit that, are you?

[But it's fine. Kano seems happy enough and everything is sorted out, right? So...]

Hey, but, since you're here, could I hear about that arm thing you did?

[She doesn't sound excited what are you talking about.] Ah, Kano, I know you don't want to stick around, though...

[Oh. He's just going to. Keep on smiling.]

Well, I don't have anything else to do. So! I guess I wouldn't mind sticking around!

[clinical]

[Jade links Kido to this.

Sigh. Fine. APPARENTLY NOT. But Jade does sigh, pushes up his glasses.]

[That's what Kido told him to say.]

You... really do hate explaining things, huh?

[She sighs, scratching her head.] You're really going to have to get used to it unless someone from your world is here to explain it for you, 'cause it's not common knowledge to us. Ah, it'd be like us just saying "we have eyes" and figuring everyone knows what we mean.

[clinical]

[Jade smiles a little. It really is a shame Guy isn't around.] In most cases, the finer technical points of my artes are beyond the knowledge of the average noble in Auldrant. [guess who he means] To put it simply, it is a fusion arte that utilizes the contamination effect.

[concealingeyes]

[Okay so Kido's education is a little limited and it has never been her focus, especially science, but this is magical science. Plus Jade seems to really hate idiots and it ticks her off. Different types of intelligence, okay?

So she's going to try hard.]

I think I get. It fuses it somehow to your arm and you can make it come back to normal when you want? 'Contamination effect' sounds kinda bad though. I wouldn't name anything good after that...

[clinical]

Science is never good or bad. [A philosophical point, but Jade believes it. The laws of the universe simply are what they are. Whether or not their results are positive, as with Jade's spear, or negative, as with . . . as they are with other matters—that was situational.]

The contamination effect is where the fonons and elements of matter separate and refuse together. Not only are the fonons in living things and inorganic materials different, but so are the elements that comprise them. Utilizing that difference, I temporarily fuse my spear into the outer layer of my right arm with an arte.

[The explanation was lazily copy and pasted. Because I am IC.]

You might not believe it but I think I get it well enough...

[That sounds like atoms. She remembers those. So it's that quantum stuff basically, right? That's not hard (kinda). It makes vague enough sense if she doesn't think too deeply on it. Actually she's more interested in what he said.]

But, hm. Science is never good or bad...? I guess so but...

[She frowns.] Part of science usually means testing it on someone at some point, right? Isn't that pretty inevitable?

[clinical]

That depends on the science.

[As if changing the topic, he nods to the wires around her neck.]

May I ask what those are?

Huh? Oh, uh...

[She reaches up and tugs her earbuds out. Taking her iPod out of her pocket, she holds them out for him.] This is an iPod. You can listen to music on it. It stores a ton and you can control the volume, too. I always have it with me. The music goes right in your ears, so it doesn't bother anyone else.

Ah, but I didn't have it on when we were talking. [She gets the feeling Jade would do some passive-aggressive lecture at her if she did.]

[clinical]

Are they naturally occurring in your world?
