"I think you're imagining it," Haruto answers, and takes the coffee. Which is kind of par for the course for Nitoh, in his experience. He lifts the mug to his lips and blows, slowly, across the surface, before he takes a sip.

It could certainly be worse, he decides. "Ice cream? No, I don't eat that stuff," he answers. "And if there is any in there, it's Adam's." He likes his roommate, certainly, but taking his food seemed a bit much. He snorts at the mental image of Nitoh cooking in his Beast suit, and then banishes it with the agreement to his 'going out' plan. "I don't think an open flame is what we need here," he says, tapping open his tablet and flicking it on. The dim light from the screen is at least enough to give him a better sense of where Nitoh is. "Besides, are you saying you don't want to go to dinner with me? My treat, and everything." He's had months to build up a little stockpile of cash, at this point. It helped that he didn't have many expenditures outside of food and an occasional life necessity, like replacement umbrellas.

He sighs audibly and puts his legs up on the table. (Also audibly) "Whatever, man. Though I'm surprised a guy with your sweet tooth doesn't go in for ice cream." He leans back. "I guess if you GOTTA pay for me, I can't turn you down. But when the lights are back on I'll come and cook for you, and that'll be my treat."

He nods silently. "I'm pretty good at cooking, especially grill stuff."

"Ice cream is too cold," Haruto answers, then, "think of it as thanks for bringing me news, huh?" He elbows at Nitoh, but carefully, since the Beast armor looked like it'd hurt.

He considers Nitoh cooking in the apartment. "You're not grilling inside. You can teach me about being a hobo instead." He takes a long sip of coffee.

He looks thoughtful under his mask and nods, though of course Haruto can't see him. "Yeah, I guess it's pretty cold." He tilts his head quizzically at the 'news' comment, but then remembers the power outage news he brought. "Oh yeah! Sure, I'll take that as payment." He doesn't even feel the elbow, but he can appreciate the gesture.

"I can grill on the stove, though. I mean, it's not as good, but beggars can't be choosers. The smoke would stain the walls, though. Might make em look nicer than just the boring old white."

He throws his arm around Haruto's shoulders, "I know everything there is to know about livin' rough, Haruto. First, figure out where you can get food from for cheap. Then, learn to cook it outside." He jerks his head thoughtfully. "After that, all there is is keeping yourself full up on necessities. Like mayo."

"They're not paying me enough to worry about staining the kitchen," Haruto answers, voice chilly as it always is when he's talking about the Initiative. "If it bothers Adam, I'll take a sponge to it."

He grunts when there's an arm over his shoulders, holding desperately onto his mug. "And what, exactly, does 'for cheap' mean--mayonnaise is not a necessity, Nitoh!"

Nitoh shrugs. "Hey, man, at least we are getting paid. No one paid me to kill Phantoms."

"Cheap as you can get it if you can't get it for free! That's the way I roll." He beams, even though he's pretty sure Haruto's aware exactly who provided his 'free' food.

"Well, at least with the Phantoms the job was straightforward," Haruto grumbles.

Haruto has his suspicions. "I see you've learned to charm Koyomi," he guesses, which is either a feat of some sort, or she's softened further than she had in the time he's lost.

"Yeah, you're really not the type to get excited about not havin' any work to do..." He murmurs, thinking back on the tension in Haruto's body whenever there were no attacks for a while.

Nitoh laughs through the suit. "It's easier to get from Shunpei, not that Koyomi doesn't like me. She just gets annoyed if I bug her too much."

"That's an understatement," Haruto admits. He's aware of his own impatience on that front. In that vein, he shrugs at Nitoh, half-pushing at him. This whole 'Nitoh can see him but he can't see back' thing is bothering him more than he'd thought.

"Shunpei's a pushover," Haruto agrees, "now Rinko, she's the real challenge." For all that his assistance could be chilly and distant sometimes, Rinko was the one he didn't want to mess with too much. Koyomi gave in if you teased her enough.

Thankfully none of his sensitive bits are uncovered in the armor, but he pulls his arm back as Haruto manages to push on his face. "Hey, c'mon!" But he leans back and puts his legs over Haruto's lap, feeling a little amused by the blind look of irritation on his rival's face.

"Yeah, Rinko's tough. If she thinks you deserve what you're gettin', she doesn't budge an inch to help. She's hardcore, though. Sometimes I feel like if I don't get to the phantom first, she's gonna go after it for me." Or the gate, in this most recent fiasco. He was a little warmed by her intense anger on his behalf, misguided as he thought it was, though.

"Nitoh," he groans, but doesn't make any moves to push him off. He'd just find some new way to lie on him.

"She's always been like that," Haruto answers, "protecting people even without powers, I mean. It's..." He trails off for a moment, considering his word choice. "It's nice to see her bounce back so well. Not everyone does." Sometimes the cracks left by a Phantom simply never healed.

He considers Rinko. "She was strong all the way, I think. S'good she's on our side! And man, I feel like even if you didn't have powers, you'd find a way to be like that too. Nothin' holds a guy like you back for long, does it?" he wiggles his booted foot over Haruto's lap in an encouraging sort of way.

"She's already scary, and she even likes me," Haruto agrees, batting weakly at the foot waggling at him. "I'd try. I can't exactly turn my back on them, can I? Could you?"

He straightens up, "Hey, she likes me!! She just doesn't- She likes me, okay?" Defensive or not, he does feel justified in thinking that, at least. Sure, she left him in jail, but eventually it all got figured out, right? No harm no foul.

"I didn't say she didn't!" Haruto answers, snickering a little. "She locked me in jail, you know, the first time we met."

"You too?!" He snaps to. "I mean... Well, she didn't lock me in jail but she--" he pauses, feeling a bit outed. "But yeah, she left me there. It was that thing I talked about with Medusa's sister." He clears his throat.

"Ah, that," Haruto says. His feelings are still mixed, on the matter. It wasn't his call to make, he knows that much, but someone else bearing this burden--Nitoh was bad enough.

"And what did she leave you in jail over, again?" he teases. "She took me in on pretty much nothing..."

"Well, I saw Medusa's twin and thought it was her so I followed her and then the campus police got all shirty," he huffs. "And she thought I really was harassing a high school girl, so!"

"I wasn't... Even though she was really cute."

"Should I be congratulating you for that?" Haruto teases, knocking at the shin on his lap with his knuckles.

He considers. "If she looks like her sister, then she must have been," he comments, "hopefully less, ah, dangerous, though." Medusa's snakes coming at him--he remembers that very clearly.

"Yeah, you should, I broke that case!" he says, all fierce pride.

"Yeah, she was mostly just sad and scared..." Nitoh says, sighing. "She was abroad when the whole thing went down. I hope White Wizard's treating her right."
