MISSION: RELEASE THEM BACK INTO THE WILD

Date & Time: April 27th - May 1st
Location: Wollongong, Australia, 2464.
Characters: All voluntary transports + maybe a few drafted ones.
Summary: Make those stay-at-homes leave their nerdcaves! My god, do they even know what sunshine looks like???
Warnings: none planned, will be updated accordingly!

The city is old, dark, and very, very quiet. A good deal of the buildings are crumbling and old, but the ones that are actually inhabited glow like candles in the dusk the Transporter has dropped you into. All of these buildings are infested by wiring pouring in from every angle, ensuring that each inhabitant in his or her little block of a room has every modern convenience available in 2464.

There is no one on the streets, no public transportation, and even cars look scarce. But that doesn't mean there's no movement. Maintenance drones, controlled remotely, run deliveries or work repairs. Armed law enforcement drones patrol on rounds through the city, although their mechanized attention is mostly turned outward. Still, they might come to investigate a ruckus within the city limits. And if the persons causing the ruckus don't respond to peaceful attempts to get them to cease, the drones might attempt to subdue them with paralyzing technology and haul them in for a night in the city jail — another dark, unused place.

If you get hungry, there are entire warehouses dedicated to the production of foods. It can't be that hard to sneak in and collect a meal, right? Or you can hack into the system and order whatever you want, if you're good with that kind of thing. Or you can just scavenge—or fast for four days, maybe—if thieving and hacking aren't your style.

And somewhere around here, in those glowing, secluded towers, behind the legions of automated drones, live the reclusive citizens of Wollongong. The methods are up to you, as long as you can get them to come out and breathe the fresh air somehow.

_{[Flora looks very excited and she's about to clasp her hands at the prospect, but then remembers: this is a serious test. She clears her throat, and lowers her head solemnly.]}

_{[While he's looking, she wills the bag to her, and it appears in her hands. She shakes it gently, wearing the most innocent of faces.]}

_{[She's just using the means available to her, man. She can't help but giggle at his face, and her trick.]}

_{[Now she looks conspicuously innocent, like she wants him to guess, but guess what? She hasn't done anything, what are you talking about.]}

[He notes that look. He knows you've done something, missy! But since he can't exactly put his finger on it, he'll let it slide... for now.] We're really lucky, then. I wonder how many we can take... heh.

I can enchant them afterwards so they'll stay warm and fresh, too. _{[Flora nods, as well. Sharing is caring. She starts to head for one of the crates to look for graham crackers and chocolate.]}

What, really? Why would you think that? _{[She looks surprised a moment, then amused.]}

[He rummages along with her, filling his arms full of smores ingredients. He chuckles.]

Ah, where I came from fairies were renown for dancing around and pulling pranks. Doing ordinary things like smores... that was something that wasn't depicted at all, as you can imagine!

_{[Flora grabs a few skewers. Between them and the other stuff, they seem to be set, now. Excellent! Time to head back to the fire.]}

You know, I keep hearing that! That they pull tricks and pranks, sometimes really mean ones. _{[She pouts mildly. How rude! And inaccurate.]} I guess it can't be helped in some cases....<sub>[Her face falls a moment. With the fairies being gone from Earth as long as they have been, it's something to expect, she supposes. But she doesn't want to think about all of that right now. Once it starts, it'll just snowball, won't it. So, she won't.

Flora shakes her head and smiles.]</sub>

I promise, I'm a very normal-smore-loving girl, Kano!

[He opens the bag and grabs a skewer, readying the smores. He notices that brief moment of... sadness, maybe? He shifts so that he's in a more comfortable position.]

Not to worry, not to worry. I believe you! You know, back home we had a friend who was a medusa. Well... she wasn't a true one, but her family had that sort of blood. [He sticks the skewer over the fire, smiling at her.] The point is, we've learned not to take those sorts of stories too seriously! Myths and fairy tales are just that--good stories.

A medusa? _{[Flora sits, drawing her knees to her chest and tilting her head curiously. Gorgons she knows, but not any by name on Earth.]}

What is that, exactly? And you know, a lot of stories have grains of truth to them!

I'm surprised that you don't know. Ah, you know those women with snakes for hair? Those are the mythical medusae! [He stops to snicker to himself.] Pfft-- Mary with snakes as her hair... ah, she'd probably trip all over them...

Anyway, anyway, medusae are known for freezing people who look at them. Mary--that's our friend--she can do that, too, but only if she makes eye contact.

[Slowly he turns his smore stick.] So you're right, you're right. The stories have some truth to them--but they have an awful lot of lies, too.

Oh! _{[She realises what he means, now.]} No, yes, I know what you're talking about. We call them gorgons, though. _{[Flora places some crackers and breaks off cubes of chocolate before setting them by, but not over, the fire so they can warm up enough.]}

With Mary...does she have to try to use that power, though, or does that always happen? _{[Because that would be rather disconcerting if she couldn't control it, if she could never look at anyone. It's a sad thing.]}

You're right about stories, though. If you don't know any better, it can be hard to pick out the truth from the lies, too.

She's got it under control. It'd be inconvenient if she didn't. Though... she did spend most of her life inside because of it. If she ever shows up, you can ask her all the questions you like. Just be nice to her! She's scary when she's mad.

[Talking about her makes him think about home, but he waves the thought away. He picks up some chocolate to squeeze his marshmallow between.] As for the stories, ah, that's just how they are. That's their nature.

I knew coming here that a lot of people would think fairies were just stories, but it has been...interesting seeing it for myself.
