Summary:

a collection of threads throughout June following the Dan's activity with one another as well friends connected to the Dan, put into one post to avoid spamming the comms. Sometimes a dan roll call.

Warnings: Uuuuuh idk lots of gross sick people. Dying! Sad teenagers and friends!

The virus is spreading, and even the Dan is catching it. And so are their friends. This is whatever they decide to do during June while sick. Prose and action spam friendly!

You look the opposite of fine.

[Kido reaches up and ties her hair back into a ponytail.] Have you tried holding down anything?

I can still eat soup, and tea, too. [He hasn't tried solid food, but the mere thought of getting it down his throat makes him feel nauseous, though he doesn't tell Kido that. He watches her tie her hair for a moment but lowers his head tiredly; holding it up is exhausting. He would lower his feet, too, but being stretched out sounds terrible, too.]

You really don't have to do this.

[So, liquids only. Even if medicine won't help, he has to keep his body as strong as possible. If she soaked some bread in soup or crackers, would that help...?

She pauses at his comment.]

Yeah, I know. I'm not doing it out of obligation. [It's called friendship, Shintaro.] Have you had some soup today yet? Do you feel feverish?

... I've had the fever for a few days. We don't -- I dont' think we have anything to measure the temperature with. [He did have soup, he thinks. Just a little bit this morning, but he wonders if he could even hold it down right now.

Regardless, Kido looks intent on using the kitchen and his tea is growing colder anyway. He slides his feet down from the couch and slowly starts to get up.]

If it's not obligation, what is it, Leader-san?

[She supposes she'll just have to do the old-fashioned way. Kido walks up to him and presses her hand to his forehead.]

Well... It's what you do, isn't it? For a friend. [Despite everything, she feels just a hint of shyness saying it outright.] ...Heh, sorry but you'll have to accept me worrying about you sometimes. Think of it as a leader duty if it sits better with you.

[She knows hikineets are weird about people after all. She pulls her hand back.] You can sit. I'll make you something and get you a cool cloth.

[He's burning up. He pulls his cold mask up over his nose as she gets closer, and leans back from the touch a little, although he doesn't throw her off completely.]

...

Thanks. But...

Don't worry about it. [It's not like she expects someone she threatened into the gang to consider her a friend.] Sit down, though. You probably feel dizzy standing, right?

... Yeah. Thanks.

You can use the kitchen however you want.

[He feels uncomfortably vulnerable, being taken care of. He lowers his eyes and resigns himself to Kido's help.]

[Boys are so stubborn about this. It's not like it's a death sentence.] I'm not going to make anything heavy but you have to try or you'll get weaker. Do you need me to do anything else? I'll make something for Kisaragi later.

[There's a pause. Now that he's letting Kido help, he actually considers her question.]

I don't think so. I gave Shiro his food, and changed his bedding earlier... so I don't think anything really needs to be done.

[He realizes halfway through that Kido might not be pleased to hear he's been moving around so he leaves out how he made himself worse the day before trying to clean the kitchen.]

...I bet you're the kind of guy that helps your mom around the house even when you're sick.

[Sigh. Well, at least he's letting her take care of him now. She goes into the kitchen and starts preparing something basic for him. If she soaks some small pieces of bread in the soup it should be more appealing. And he needs something heartier in his stomach.

While it's cooking she grabs a bowl and fills it with cool water, grabbing a cloth. Kido returns to Shintaro and sets the bowl down.]

...This might help your fever. [She soaks the cloth in the water and wrings out the excess.] Have you took a bath or anything?

I don't usually get sick.

[He follows her to the kitchen, putting his mug in the sink and washing it out before he seats himself back at the couch, shivering a little. He feels sore.]

I took once this morning. [Standing in the shower made him dizzy, and cooling down from the warm water made him feel like he was freezing, too. He tiredly watches her wring out the water.]

That's good. Uhm. [She sits beside him and ends up pressing the cloth to his forehead.] I would wash your face and your neck but you probably want to do that yourself. But it might help a little.

[Her close proximity finally makes him jump, and the cool cloth against his warm forehead makes him shiver again. He ducks his head, not really comfortable with it but not pulling away, either. She's just trying to help, he tells himself.]

I can do that myself...

[Did it scare him? Or is his fever worse than she thinks?]

Sorry. I'm used to having to mother people I guess. You can hold it then but if your arm gets tired I don't mind.

[She keeps the cloth held there until he takes it.]

[He takes it, pressing it against his forehead. He doesn't even have the energy to think stupid thoughts about girls taking care of him when he's sick. He's too busy being uncomfortable, although he appreciates it.]

Shouldn't you be looking after Kano, then? How's Kaede-chan?

She's doing all right. I don't think she's sick at all somehow. But I'm not going to question good luck. As for Kano...

[She sighs.] He insists he's fine but he's not. He's getting sick too so I'm putting him on bed rest. It's the same back home. He's always a pain.

Everyone's sick, huh? It's good that Kaede-chan's still healthy.

[He sighs a long sigh and lowers the cloth a little to cover his eyes too.]

This can't be normal.

I don't think it is. It's probably biological warfare. [She rubs the back of her neck.]

...If you think about the timing... we're all currently demoralized. [She doesn't need to go into details on that.] If you were going to try to wipe us out, now is a good time.

[He shoots Kido a look. He glares a lot on default, but this time he takes the cloth off his face just to narrow his eyes at her.]

I know. Don't bring that up when Momo's home, will you?

Ah... sorry. [She looks down for a moment, thrown off topic. Stil she has one thing she wants to say.]

...That's why you have to take care of yourself. We'll take care of her if it comes to that, but... you need to be there. Even if it's hard, fight it.

What does it look like I'm doing.

[aside from probably making himself worse.]

It looks like you've been making it worse. Next time, call me earlier. With your constitution we can't take risks.

[What? Like she wasn't going to call him out on it. She stands and goes back to the kitchen to get the soup and bread.]

... Sorry.

[He frowns and proceeds to grumble a little, slumping down even more as Kido stands.]

[He can grumble all he wants. When she comes back she sets down the soup and puts a couple of slices of bread by it.]

...I know you don't want solid food at all but try anyway. Dipping it in the soup should make it easy to swallow in small bites.
