Because he really wants his rice omelettes.
But he's not going to ask.
Still, Cheria, he's watching her...
And not saying anything, because it's awkward to ask, even if he would use is political power to feed everyone rice omelettes.]
Oh, Cheria. What is it you're preparing?
no subject
She turns to face him, pausing in her preparations. She smiles.]
Rice omelettes. That's what you wanted right, Hubert?
no subject
Why yes. I, um... was going to ask, but never got around to it.
no subject
I'm making everyone's favorites today, since it's a party. I thought it'd be a good chance for that, you know? Just don't get too spoiled on them! There's plenty of other stuff to eat too.
no subject
[He tries to sound logical here, but hey, he's letting that more vulnerable side slip just a bit for Cheria. Still, it's embarrassing since he would prefer to keep up his stoic composure.
Also, he's not asking her to draw a heart on it, but he might be looking at the ketchup bottle on the counter.
Hi, this is Hubert, he sometimes didn't grow up from being 10 years old.]
no subject
[Cheria catches the look, and smiles.]
Don't worry, I'll make them just the way you like them. [Heart and all.]
no subject
[So many one with every meal is excessive, but he can at least have one a day, right? It's not like it's that hard to make.]
And thank you. I appreciate your hard work, Cheria.
no subject
No way! If I let you pick your own diet all you would eat is rice omelettes! Someone has to make sure you eat some meat and veggies too.
[Her smile brightens.]
Thanks! It's nice to know that someone actually notices just how much I do for you guys!
no subject
[When they are in his rice omelettes...]
Of course. After all, we wouldn't have had such nutritious meals during our travels if it were not for you and your work.
no subject
[Yeah she figures that's what he would do. B( The lengths her friends will do to just to eat their favorite foods.]
Well maybe you can get that through Asbel's thick skull too! I swear he doesn't appreciate it at all.

... ... ...
But she can only keep quiet for so long.
She's hungry already. ]
Cheria, are the crablettes ready yet?
no subject
Sophie! You know you need to eat more than just crablettes, it's not healthy to eat too much of one thing all the time. It's going to spoil your diet! But... [She holds the plate out, smiling.] I'll let you have one early. It'll be our little secret, okay?
no subject
Okay, got it. It's our secret.
no subject
[She hands her a fork too.]
Sorry, not sorry.
Hey, Cheria! How's the curry coming?
[Yep.]
[One of these days...]
what do you guys think she is a line cook B(
She turns away from the cooking, wagging her spoon at him.]
Honestly, Asbel, it'll be done when it's done! I'm working as fast as I can. It's no wonder Sophie is so spoiled.
[She smiles after a moment, before hurriedly turning back to the stove to hide it.]
It's almost ready. Just give me a few more minutes, okay?
Yes! ...I mean no! Maybe?
I didn't mean it like that! I was only asking a question.
[Although, he is getting hungry. But, he's not going to push his luck. Instead, Asbel scratches the back of his head, reflecting on Sophie. Is he somehow at fault here? Well, okay. So it might be true that he doesn't push her to do or try things she doesn't like.]
[...Actually, no. He's pretty sure Cheria's implying that he's spoiled. Asbel sighs, his expression smoothing out again.] All right, fine. I get it.
Is there anything else that needs doing?
wrong answer!!!
[She is absolutely implying that Asbel is spoiled and Sophie is spoiled because of him too. She stirs the the sauce mixture in the pan, keeping her eyes down. Even though she's giving him a hard time, she's still in high spirits to have him and all of her friends here. She can't really be that irritated. It was probably a bad idea to spoil them today, though.]
Can you wash the rice for me? I have to start it soon so it'll be ready when the curry is.
Aw..................
H-hey, come on... You're not actually going to make me cook a meal all by myself...? Cheria? [Is that even a good idea? Would the kitchen survive? No one knows! And it's hard to tell just how serious Cheria's being about this, since her back's to him. But it does kind of make sense. He wouldn't want to be interrupted during sword practice, for example, so yeah, maybe it would be annoying the third time around.]
Sorry, I know you're doing your best. I guess it's just easy to forget how much work's involved in putting dinner together.
[He takes a slow, sweeping look around the kitchen and finally locates the rice.]
Okay, I can do that. [And off he goes! It's a good thing he's learned some of the basics of cooking in the past seven years, even if his method is a little crude. He'll dump the rice into a large bowl, fill in enough water to submerge everything without overflowing, and begin raking through it to loosen the dirt and grime. About a quarter of that rice? It's about to get broken.]
no subject
[She turns to face him, brows arched.]
If you really think it's that hard, then maybe you should have more appreciation for the one cooking for you all the time, instead of bugging her to hurry up. Maybe once in a while you could cook me dinner.
[No, wait. That sounds too intimate, she didn't mean that. She whips back around to stare down at her pan like it is the most interesting thing in the room.]
Try not to make a huge mess with it, okay?
no subject
[Asbel glances back over his shoulder as she vents, wondering if he really said it like that.]
Huh? But I do appreciate you, Cheria.
[There's an awkward moment, which probably feels longer than it really is, before Asbel turns back to his work, embarrassed.]
I mean... If it wasn't for you and your healing abilities, we would have been overtaken by monsters dozens of times. Or we might have starved to death even before that. And if you hadn't kept pestering her about it, Pascal might never have bathed!
[Nice save.]
[...]
[Aww, crap, he spilled some of it!]
no subject
Cheria's cheeks heat up, and she's just glad he can't see her face with her back to him. She hunches in on herself a little as if shrinking in will cover up her embarrassment more.]
Well... You don't always act like it, you know?
[She turns at the noise, once she's sure most of the color has left her cheeks. Her embarrassment is replaced with irritation.]
Asbel! I told you to be careful!
no subject
[How exactly is he supposed to show his appreciation? Asbel hasn't managed to figure that part out, yet. He'd come close - once - to admitting how invaluable she is to him and to Sophie, but Cheria already knows what she wants to do with herself, right? It just didn't seem fair to burden her with his own hopes for the future.]
[And it's okay Cheria. Asbel can't see you. He's too busy being embarrassed himself - and trying to salvage the rice that sloshed over the edge of the bowl. Chef material he is not, but he manages to retrieve quite a bit.]
It's fine! I've got it. [...More or less...] I'll just wash it a few more times.
no subject
She turns the burner down so that she can walk over to him and peek over his shoulder.]
Don't jostle it so much! Or use a strainer to catch it if you can't keep it in the bowl.

The secret of the half-eaten curry is revealed in backtags.
It was Asbel's fault all along.
